The space

The chalet is on a quiet cul-de-sac off the main road through Les Houches.

The newly decorated 120m2 chalet surrounded by a pretty garden with spectacular views of the Mont Blanc range, provides the perfect place to relax and enjoy the mountain tranquility, while at the same time being extremely conveniently located: it's a couple of minutes away from the exit off the Geneva-Chamonix motorway; a 1 hour drive from Geneva airport; 10 minute drive to Chamonix town centre and ski lifts; 5 minutes to Les Houches village centre and ski slopes. And is within walking distance to a well stocked supermarket (350 metres/ 5 minute walk). There is also a bus stop less than 3 mins walk away with a free bus service Les Houches and the Chamonix valley.

The chalet is on two floors, built with plenty of open space and allowing maximum sunlight for brightness and warmth.

The lower floor comprises the entrance hall with inset cupboard (handy for large coats and boots); the kitchen; dining room/living space; 1 double bedroom; 1 bathroom and separate toilet.

The open kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, induction hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and all the cooking and kitchenware needed to cater for meals for 8 or more guests.

The dining room has a large welcoming reclaimed wood table, seating up to 8 people. It is surrounded by large windows looking out onto the Mont Blanc range and sliding doors leading out onto the garden decking.

It adjoins the living area which includes a large sofa bed and comfy armchairs around the log burning fireplace. The lower floor has underfloor heating throughout.

The lower floor bedroom looks onto the garden, and includes a king sized bed.

Next to it is the bathroom (with shower and wash basin). And the separate toilet.

On the upper floor:
Is the 2nd double bedroom. With a super king sized bed, en suite bathroom (including bath, overhead shower, wash basin and toilet), the large walk-in wardrobe and french windows leading onto the balcony surrounding the house with spectacular views of the mountains to wake up to.

Across the landing is a mezzanine looking over the living room. It has been converted into a kids sleeping area with 2 extendible beds. Note: the mezzanine is under the sloping roof, so it's fine for small children, but adults beware of the wooden beam! The mezzanine area can also be used as a comfy lounge area with cosy seating.

The house provides plenty of additional space with its has a large garage and cellar, useful for storing skis, bikes and other sports equipment. The cellar includes a washing machine/dryer, the ironing board and iron, and shelves for kitchen supplies. The garage and driveway has enough parking space for 2/3 cars.

The outdoor area is provided with a set of garden furniture, a plancha gas BBQ and wooden playhouse with slide; ideal for summer days.

Guest access

Guests have exclusive use of the whole property, including garage, cellar/utility room and garden. With the exception of one small annex separate from the garage which will remain locked for the owner's personal storage.

Interaction with guests

We live close by and available by phone or in person for any questions during your stay.
A full welcome pack is provided with information about the house; copies of manuals of the various electrical items; and plenty of brochures to help you make the most of your holiday in Les Houches.

The neighbourhood

The chalet is conveniently located close enough to enjoy all the hustle and bustle of Chamonix with its bars, restaurants and numerous events, while also providing a nice retreat back to peace and tranquility.

Les Houches itself, has the charm of a traditional alpine village, but provides its own bustle and activity, with plenty of welcoming restaurants (La Chavanne, Kistch Inn, Le Délice, La Ginguette); fabulous traders in local produce (boulangerie Jacquier, the fromagerie de la fruitère, the farmers market on Route du Pont wed afternoons).

As well of course as its endless possibilities for outdoor and mountain related activities in winter or summer. Even pretty spring and colourful autumn aren't too bad (and available at cheaper rates)!

Les Houches is one of the 5 world renowned ski areas of the Chamonix Valley which also include Les Grands Montets, Brévents/Flégère, Balme/Vallorcine and the Vallée Blanche. Ski passes can include all areas or just Les Houches.

Les Houches ski area itself is at the foot of the Mont Blanc mountain. From the summit of its ski area, the 360º view is spectacular, and glimpses of the Mont Blanc range through its forest trails are a real delight.

It considered particularly family and child-friendly, with great beginner and intermediate pistes, as well as nursery slopes for learning and babysitting/creche services to allow parents a few hours uninterrupted skiing!

But really caters all the way to top level skiers, being famous for hosting the downhill World Cup on its Kandahar run.

The cable cars stay open in the summer months for hikers and mountain bikers to enjoy spectacular mountains and soaring peaks.

Getting around

As mentioned before, it's a couple of minutes away from the exit off the Geneva-Chamonix motorway and a 1 hour drive from Geneva airport.
There are also numerous minibus services that run from Geneva airport to Les Houches. We've used AlpyBus on several occasions and they dropped us right at the doorstep.

Although a car does make things easier, it is perfectly possible to get around with public transport, or walking and cycling. The bus stop is less than 3 mins walk away with a free bus service Les Houches and the Chamonix valley.

There is also a train service from Les Houches to all the villages of the valley. It's a very picturesque ride and a lovely way to explore the area.

We positively encourage our guests to make use of these local services: all our guests get a Carte d'Hôte, which gives free access to local transport.

In the summer, we regularly cycle to Chamonix (15 minutes) and Les Houches. There are plenty of bicycle hire shops.

Other things to note

On arrival we require a cash payment for the deposit of guarantee of €1000 which will be returned on departure after the property is checked. We ask that you report any damage or breakages.

We had a great time at this Chalet our host was excellent in giving us lots of information on the local area, the chalet had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay as well as being very stylish, modern and clean. It felt very spacious and the garden is also very well kept. We highly recommend the staying here, and also liked that there was a local supermarket within 10 minutes walk.

Charlotte is the perfect hostess. We were welcomed with a bottle of champagne, cheese, bread and fruit, and a Christmas card! The chalet was spotless with instructions for every appliance in a folder, and a list of good places to eat and where to buy excellent cheese aux Houches! Les Houches is a lovely village with a good family ski area - runs for beginners and the more experienced skiers/snowboarders. Charlotte's chalet is towards the outskirts of Les Houches, on the opposite side of the village to the ski lifts, but we have a car and it's great to be in the more residential (rather than touristy) side of town. You can take the Chamonix bus if you don't have a car, but having your own transport does open up the options of being fully independent and able to explore. The Super U supermarket is 5 mins walk away fro the chalet, and it stocks a huge selection of food - a real bonus! There's also a gas station there, which is really convenient. The Chamonix valley is a gorgeous area for outdoor activities and the chalet is only 10 mins drive away from the town of Chamonix. We'd highly recommend staying at Charlotte's chalet, and would definitely come back to stay. Thanks so much for having us Charlotte!

I'm a childrenswear designer who lives outside Geneva with her husband and son. My career has slightly been put on hold since his birth, which coincided with our arrival in this part of the world.
Still new to the area, we're completely in awe, and spend as much of our spare time as possible exploring the region and enjoying the mountains.
