About this listing

The space

BONNE SUITE
Bonne Suite is for those value special experiences. The historic atmosphere and the owner's personal touch, will make this one of your favorite places. And you're not alone, our guests consistently rate us as top hotel in the area, with for example a a 5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor and a 9.0 out of 10 on (URL HIDDEN) The building is also very close to SAP (7 minutes) and other large companies.

THE BUILDING
Bonne Suite consists of three larges suites and a lobby in a 200 years old extensively renovated (finished in 2012) barn and offers a great mix of old world atmosphere and modern comfort. We operate it as a small boutique hotel (also see the Bonne Suite web site) but, after using AirBnB for a holiday in the US, we decided to rent out the rooms through AirBnB as well. The hotel has three large suites and a beautiful lobby with sandstone walls, a high ceilings and a fire place.

SUITE - STABLES
This suite used to be the stables as you can still see from the square openings in the wall to the lobby. This large suite (45 sqm / 450 sqft) has as separate bedroom an lifing area. The living areas has a fully equiped kitchen, large HD-flat screen television, DVD player, stereo receiver and cd- and mp-3 player. The bedroom has a stylish walk-in shower and and a great bed and has been plastered with local adobe which creates a perfect level of humidity and a very peaceful atmosphere.

SUITE - COURT YARD
The court yard suite (43 sqm / 450 sqft) is on the first floor and has sitting area with HD-flat screen television, DVD, stereo receiver and cd- and mp-3 player. This suite also has folding couch wich can be used by children as an additional double bed. The suite has separate sitting / dining areas and a separate desk and kitchen with fridge, espresso machine and a grill-oven-microwave combination. You will love the high ceilings and the oiled fishbone parquet.

SUITE - GARDEN VIEW
The garden view suite (43 sqm / 450 sqft) is also on the first floor and has sitting area with HD-flat screen television, DVD, stereo receiver and cd- and mp-3 player. This suite has a large dormer that offers a very nice view on the garden below. Like the other suites, this suite has separate sitting / dining areas and a separate desk and a fully equiped kitchen.

GARDEN
The garden has been designed by my wife, who is a professional garden designer. The design is based on the English and Dutch formal gardens from the 17th century and is very quiet. A great place to be when the weather is right, which in this area it often is.

STUFF TO DO
Bonne Suite is located close (20 minutes by car) to Heidelberg, Mannheim, Speyer and Karlsruhe and many other interesting cities. It is also close to Golf Club St-Leon-Rot; the best golfclub in Germany and many time host of the German Open.

GETTING ABOUT
The centres of Heidelberg, Mannheim, Schwetzingen and Karlsruhe are all about 20 minutes away. We also have a bus stop in fromt of the hotel which will take you directly to Heidelberg center.

BABY BEDS AND FOLDING COUCH
We have a baby bed for your usage and one of the suites has an additional folding couch. The couch is for families with children who would like to have only one room. Both cost 10 Euros per person per night. Please contact us throughh AirBnB if you would like to use these.

Guest access

As our guest you will have access to the whole house and garden. There are two exceptions however:
- the boiler room with washing machine an dryer; if you would like to use the washing machine please ask and we'll be happy to operate it for you.
- The kitchen in the lobby; you can use the other three kitchens in the suites

Interaction with guests

The amount of interaction we will have depends on you. We normally walk through the lobby a couple of times a day to walk our dog in the fields behind the house; if you don't want that, please let us know.

This is a beautiful property with a "secret garden" in the back. Each suite truly has its own kitchen and wonderful bath. The beds are awesome! Feels a bit more like an inn. Marianne gave us excellent suggestions for our trip into Heidelberg--we enjoyed the visit so much! There is a great bakery across the street and a market is a short drive away. Excellent stay!

The place is beautifully done up, stunning one can say. The use of wood, stone, lights - both natural & light fittings is dramatic. The studio room was very spacious and provided everything 2 persons can require - including space for working separately if required. Marianne was extremely helpful and special thanks to her for helping me with mid trip laundry :-) The place is well located and close to bank, super markets, golf course & is on a park with good parking facilities. We enjoyed our stay - including gazing at stars from the slanted roof windows while the nearby church bells chimed !

Nice hosts, very attentive when you need them. Farm house is lovely and cool on hot days. We had a nice day out in Heidleburg visiting the Castle and travelling on the fenicular railway. Very relaxed and comfortable.

Chris and Marianne's place is very beautiful. The plus points are that it's spacious and clean, with lovely features and furnishings, and comfortable beds. The back garden is especially pretty and as others have pointed out, the downstairs shower is terrific (though note that if bathroom privacy is an issue, there is no door to separate bathroom from bedroom). All this being said and (see my other reviews) I'm not one to moan (!), we were disappointed by the *ethos* of this particular AirBandB. The house positions itself as a hotel, in order (as Marianne told us) to gain bookings via sites such as (URL HIDDEN) However (again as she advised) it's actually a (rather beautiful) bed and breakfast set up. In theory (I could be wrong here) all three rooms could be booked independently of each other whilst being advertised as having full privacy since all three rooms have bathrooms and living facilities. Yet they are all in the same house. The problem for us was the fact that we had none of the 'home from home' benefits that are central to the AirBandB ethos - for example we weren't allowed to use the washing machine and drier (and we could have really done with this). Marianne advised that this was a private room not for us (odd for an AirBandB). There was no welcome pack which, having arrived late (we were unavoidably delayed and texted to let our hosts know) with - as we advised her- five tired and hungry kids, didn't feel very welcoming. Even some bread and milk for the morning would have been wonderful and I think, for the price, not unreasonable. In short, Marianne was very nice and the place very beautiful, but not really what we were expecting in terms of access to facilities and a warm, 'home'ly' and flexible welcome.

Response from Chris & Marianne:
It's true that you can also rent one apartment in our house. We have 3 apartments ( all almost 50 m2 each) If you rent them all, like Fiona did with her family you can also use the lobby as a central place to stay together and it would feel like a private home. If you are arriving in Bonne Suite, the guests can always make some coffee, tea and there is a bottle of mineral water in the fridge. As Fiona wrote: every room has a kitchen where it is possible to make your own food. Supermarkets are open till 10.00 p.m. during the week and on Sunday you can get fresh bread at the bakery for a lovely breakfast. Fiona and her family arrived at 8.30 p.m., so time enough left, to go to a shop or restaurant in the village.

Marianne met us as we walked to the house, introduced us to the house, provided specific directions (with map!) to a local family restaurant suitable for our situation (2 young kids) that we had requested, and had a fabulous home for us to enjoy. The listing was accurate, and the neighborhood is delightful. It's on the main street through town (didn't show up on our GPS until we arrived), with parking very close in the rear. Has a playground for children nearby, and a delightful garden. The home plays rustic and innovative with a beautiful bar with plenty of table and flatware to dine in, a very comfortable king-size bed, amazing "rain-like" shower, and easy entry. I wanted to surprise and delight my wife with the location, and our host and their home did not disappoint.

Chris & Marianne run a beautifully designed hide-away place with a fairytale-like garden. Attention to detail gives you something to discover in every corner. It's a quiet little place, very private that invites to relax. Our room (the stables) offered a nicely furnished kitchen with all the equipment you might need in a nice environment. The shower in front of the original stone wall is spectacular. The bed was very comfortable and we got some good nights sleep. The stay was very uncomplicated and we had a really nice time.

Response from Chris & Marianne:
Yes, that was a shame: we missed eachother next day. When I came in the hotel you were already gone that first morning. The door was locked, so I didn't want go in there, to bring your stuff to the other room. Next time you give me a call and we could arrange the things you wish. It was a pleasure that you were there and I wish you all the goodness together for the future. Regards, Marianne
