A modernised farmhouse with a big garden and wonderful views across the sea to Germany. The beautiful barbecue area looks directly on to Voderup Klint nature reserve. The kitchen is new; there is TV, wifi, CH, and a wood burner for cool evenings! We also use the garden for weddings (for guests who are staying here only) - see the Danish Island Weddings website (URL HIDDEN) for details.

The space

The house is in a unique, amazingly quiet location, backing on to a nature reserve which goes down to the sea. You have direct access to miles of beautiful walking, and are right on the main cycle route around the island. The wildlife (and the birdlife in particular - including red kites, buzzards, and an eagle) is wonderful. There is a huge amount of space, indoors and out, and the emphasis is on "hygge" everywhere!

Guest access

You have the whole house, garden, and barbecue area to your selves. There are two large barns as well but these are normally locked, not least for security, as there is all sorts of stuff in there.

Interaction with guests

We live not far away in Ærøskøbing, where we also have our office for our wedding planning business, so we are normally available at any time.

Other things to note

For most people a car is necessary, although there are excellent free buses and the bus stop is about 1 mile away (near the pub and shop). But you can do without if you enjoy cycling and walking.

We hope you enjoy our lovely house but we do feel strongly about smoking and would ask smokers to always go outside. It is also normal in Denmark not to wear outdoor shoes inside! Well behaved dogs are fine, but please keep them downstairs.

This was our second stay at John's house at Voderup. Because we had such an amazing time last time (May 2016), we went back to Aero to get married there! The house is absolutely gorgeous, with an expansive garden, BBQ area, and lots of sleeping space. The house is rustic but very clean, and communication with John was as seamless as last time. Plenty of room for parking outside as well! As close to a tranquil nature hideaway in Denmark as you can get. Looking forward to next time!

Made to feel very welcome, nothing too much trouble, allowed in earlier than stated time and my query re key (my fault) was dealt with immediately. A truly idyllic position for nature lovers (saw hedgehog, hares, butterflies and numerous birds). Wonderful to be allowed to pick grapes, plums, tomatoes and dig up new potatoes. Grandchildren lit fire in designated place in garden and baked apples. Views to die for!

John's hospitality and generosity made our party of six feel very welcome. We were on Ærø for two nights for a wedding in Ærøskøbing. The farmhouse was an incredible base for the wedding and exploring the island. We had breakfast in the BBQ area both mornings, and also BBQed one night. Thank you so much for showing us a small piece of paradise - we hope to be back someday!

Our family had a wonderful time at the country house! Everything one could possibly want for a relaxed stay is available. We had wonderful weather so we took advantage of the great outdoor seating areas for meals and also to enjoy the stunning sunsets. The area is great for walks, biking and in around 10 minutes by car you can reach the larger towns on the island for shopping or visiting the restaurants. We will definitely come back soon and stay longer next time!

My Danish wife and I run a wedding business in Ærøskøbing and "den Gamle Koebmandsgaard", a building in the heart of the old town which has a cafe, offices, a wedding room and soon a whisky distillery (seriously!). I love this beautiful island (Ærø) and when I can I play golf, f…
