About this listing

Newmarket Square is walking distance from everything Dublin has to offer you. With cafes, bars, parks, furniture markets and stores to medieval, Viking and cathedral neighbourhoods only a block away this is fast becoming the epicentre of this city!!!

The space

This duplex TWO bedroom apt is very unique. Once upon a time it was two one bed apartments on top of one another other before the lack of sales in the 90's pushed the developer into joining them via a central staircase to create a single, spacious and very funky two story, two bedroom apt!

The eight person occupancy is most suited to couples or families with one of the two rooms sleeping four people on two beds. If you are travelling as a large group of eight single people please note that you will be sharing double beds and blankets. I provide double duvets for all beds and one or two extra blankets but I'd advise you to bring sleeping bags if you have any issues cuddling up with your best friend under the same duvet!

As an artist and furniture designer I'm constantly looking for ways to showcase my work in a functional form. Spaces like this give me the opportunity to do so.

Almost every piece of furniture in this space was hand made by myself and is most definitely one of a kind. From the solid Walnut counter tops to the geometric graffiti art on the stairs I have spent almost 7 weeks turning this space into a functional gallery of decorative art and design.

As well as the individual pieces of furniture the walls are filled with Irish landscape photography from one of Ireland's best known and brightest landscape photographer, Peter Gordon. I'd love to hear you guess where each was taken!

This home boasts a reception hallway with the staircase linking to upstairs, a large open plan kitchen, living, dining room with three comfortable and large sofas to enjoy movies on the projector. It even has a stand up piano if you need to get in some practice while you're away!

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the mod cons necessary for a comfortable stay including a dishwasher, microwave, clothes washer, coffee machine, etc etc.

Once upstairs you will find a large landing area with a reading chair, two shower rooms (one ensuite), two large bedrooms with a 5 foot king size bed in one bedroom and a 4 foot pull out futon on the floor.
In the second bedroom there is a self designed solid teak Continental Double bed with a spring and memory foam mattress. The fourth bed is downstairs in the lounge which is a 4ft sofa bed with an easy pull out sting and memory foam mattress.

Back downstairs and you'll also find a record player with an eclectic collection of old lp's, an electric guitar and amp, a Cajon or two the piano and a library of books for you read whilst relaxing after a long day exploring Dublin.

The building is very secure and extremely quite at night with no major roads within two blocks.
The area of Newmarket Square is extremely safe and within a 15 minute walk of the city centre and Temple Bar.

All in I doubt you will find a space quite like this so if you're coming to Dublin then this is where you need to stay!

Guest access

Guests have access to everything inside the apt. It's all here just for your enjoyment.

Interaction with guests

I tend to greet the majority of my guests personally as this is my favourite thing about airbnb! I've been hosting for over a year and have met some amazing groups within that time.
If for any reason I can't be there personally I have a great team of people (including my Mom) who can step up and meet you.
You will be greeted at the door and shown up to the apt then given a detailed description of the surroundings if required.

This place is great for those looking to explore Dublin for a long weekend. Location isn't right in the centre, but the Guinness Factory is a mere 15 minute walk, and something I would definitely recommend for those who haven't been, and there is also loads of lovely cafes near by for a good spot of breakfast. If you want to get up towards Temple Bar in the likes, it's about a 10 minute taxi ride. Lots of quirky touches throughout the flat, which make it a little different from other run of the mill places. Beds are super comfy too - slept very well. We had a few issues with showers, but Ronan fixed these for us asap after a phonecall. The shared corridors up to the flat are a little sketchy (bit smelly and very dimly lit) but once inside the flat itself, it's a completely different experience - very homely. Thanks for a great stay Ronan!

Ronan's apartment was an amazing location, walking distance from everything! Everything was clean and the perfect size for our family of 5. Thanks for a great couple nights in Dublin!

Ronan's apartment is really beautiful and artistic, outfitted with handmade wooden furniture, inspiring nature photography and books, and musical instruments. The place was also very clean and relaxing, and the neighbourhood is in an interesting state of transition. We'd recommend The Fumbally cafe for coffee or a meal (they have a special dinner on Wednesdays), Whelan's for music, and Newmarket Square for Sunday markets and the Teeling distillery. Thanks for the lovely stay.

Traveling with my parents and couple of friends with their one-year old. Soon as we got there we had to tell the host we refused to stay: it was unhygienic, especially considering we would be having a baby with us. // The apartment had an unpleasant smell when we got there; towels were drying on a staircase railing and linens smelled worn. Some clothing had been left in a hanger downstairs and the lounge had some of the records lying around, suggesting that the apartment had been in use very recently relative to our arrival and that there hadn't been enough time to clean it up properly. // Therefore we got in touch right away with Airbnb Customer Experience over the phone to cancel and claim a refund. At that point, the representative who heard the situation from me failed to provide any mitigation: no alternative accommodation was discussed, and we were told that the photographic evidence we provided was insufficient to claim a refund. Repeated chase-ups of Airbnb in order to escalate the claim and arrive at a solution have been ignored.

Response from Ronan:
This was the first time I encountered a group who were not born to travel using the sharing community airbnb has prided and thrived on! For those reading this I have no doubt that Nuno's comments highlight more the nature of Nuno's families expectations rather than the true state of my listing. A listing which failed to receive a single bad review in it's previous 66! The "service entrance" mentioned was in fact the elevator from the parking garage where I helped them to park their car! Yes I agree this is not the carpark of the Waldorf and certainly has it's own charming leaks and visible service pipes etc but it is a resident's entrance none the less! As for the linen not being Ironed! Well all I can say is that my linens are cleaned thoroughly between each guest's stay but NEVER ironed. The day of their arrival my cleaner did in Nuno's defence have a brain fart and left towels to dry on the landing without opening a window to air the apt. There was a slight smell when we walked in but once a window was opened the apt aired immediately. Sadly the damage inflicted on the nasal canal of Nuno's Mother was irreparable and from that moment on nothing in the apt was up to her high standard. I am an individual artist who provides a beautifully decorated and furnished affordable inner city apt, I am not The Four Seasons General Manager! I pride myself on the cleanliness of this listing and have never had a single complaint about it being messy. "Handling the towels with dirty hands"?? Well, it seems I should have washed my hands in front of Nuno and his parents prior to shaking their hands also it appears! Is this a serious comment or just another joke?? Nuno is clutching at straws in his review. It is inaccurate and shows the cracks in his perceptions and his presumptions as highlighted by Airbnb's own decision that the photos Nuno provided to back up his nonsense were in fact that, nonsense. Nuno presumed his parents would be happy to stay in an airbnb apt when in fact his Mother and Father are more accustomed to, as they told me, "the highest quality that accommodations in the north of Portugal provide"!! Well Nuno and family, I've never been to the north of Portugal but I can promise you when I do eventually get there I will scrutinise my lodgings as thoroughly as you have but I can assure you, I will do so as open mindfully as all of my previous guests have, and should something arise that might turn my nose I will work towards a solution and not a mutiny as civilised people do.

Ronan's place was outstanding! Temple Bar, St Patricks and St Stephen's Green are all within walking distance. The space was gorgeous, with two full bedrooms, a lovely reading nook, and an open great room off the kitchen. We really enjoyed each of us having our own space for the week. Ronan was also very quick to respond to any questions, very helpful.
