Fully self contained two bedroom cottage with Otway views for up to 5 people & pet friendly. A great romantic getaway or Great Ocean Road stop-over. Tucked amongst eucalypt & rain forest, native flora & fauna. Very close to Aire River & beach as well as the Cape Otway lighthouse.

The space

If you would like to stay four or more nights during the minimum two night period (not during peak times), please message me the dates you are interested in and I am more than happy to send through a Special Offer price.

Hugged by forest on one side, and open to the setting sun on the other, Stone Cottage has majestic views of Hordern Vale valley and the tree-clad sand dunes of adjacent Aire River which run down to the nearby beach. The sea is less than 1km from the cottage as the crow flies - you can often hear the distant waves crashing at night.

The cottage itself, is set in a private estate that has six hidden cottages across 60-65 acres of indigenous temperate rain and eucalypt forest, full of wonderful wildlife: have seen koalas from the kitchen, and the cutest dark-chocolate brown wallabies from the living room. Also wombats, echidnas, wedge tail eagles, cockatoos, parakeets, and numerous other birds - the cottage has a great bird book for reference.

The cottage is fully self contained with log fire, air-conditioning, digital TV, DVD, large corner bath, shower, fully equipped kitchen including stove, oven, fridge & microwave, barbecue and clothes washing machine. There is no wifi supplied and the only mobile reception you will be able to receive is Telstra 3G, all other mobile companies will not receive coverage.

There are two bedrooms with a king size bed in master bedroom and trilogy bunk (double on bottom & single on top) in the second bedroom, bath towels and bed linen are provided for your stay.

Stone Cottage is also pet friendly, so the whole family can enjoy. There is an undercover closed carport for outside use with pets. If they do sleep inside, we ask that you provide a bed and they do not go onto carpet areas or on furniture. Please clean up after your beloved fury friend and not leave them unattended in the cottage.

The cottage is a 5 minute drive from Aire River camping ground, beach and the Great Ocean Walk; 10 minutes to Cape Otway lighthouse; 15 minutes to Johanna beach; 15-20 minutes to Apollo Bay; 30 minutes to the Otway Fly; 45 minutes to the 12 Apostles. Cape Otway is 2.5-3 hours west of Melbourne along the spectacular Great Ocean Road. The Hordern Vale Road starts off as a sealed road and then the last 3kms are gravel, fine for a 2WD (I have a hatch back myself), but just go slow as it can be slippery.

Guest access

Guests have access to everything in the Cottage.

Interaction with guests

The cottage is all yours - I'll give you the combination number to a key lock box on the day of arrival. From there, you can make yourself at home. If you have any questions during your stay (or before hand), please feel free to contact me. Please note that mobile phone reception is available from the house, but Telstra only.

Other things to note

Whilst the cottage is in a beautiful part of rural Victoria, please do keep in mind there will be insects. Mostly just the common fly, so keeping the screen doors or glass doors/windows closed will help to prevent them coming in. Fly swats and fly spray is also supplied for your stay.

Lovely quaint little cottage with a beautiful outlook. The kitchen floor was a bit grubby, but everything else was fine.

Great getaway located deep in the middle of the Otways. Cottage is functional - you'll need to know how to make a good fire though!

This beautiful cottage was exactly as charming as it looked in the pictures. I didn't meet the hosts but did communicate with Amy by email and she has the perfect attitude for hospitality because she's very helpful and friendly and I think that is a big thing when choosing a relaxing place - relaxing hosts. Everything about the cottage had a feeling of generosity - plenty of firewood, gas in the barby, huge front deck, big table with comfortable chairs outside, the ability to bring a pet if you liked. The only reccomendation I had was to put in a a small heating unit in the lounge area because the open fire is the only main room heat and that takes an hour or more to heat up the room. the cottage keeps the warmth in really well once it's there but make sure you do have warm clothes. There was an oil heater in the bedroom but we didn't use it because the fresh air made our sleeps incredible. I wish Amy and Joel all the best because they deserve great success and I would definitely deal with them again as Amy was a pleasure to deal with Cheers Alan and Davina

A beautiful and relaxing place to get away from it all. Just what we needed to recharge for a weekend.

We found a piece of heaven. I loved this place fantastic views, off the beaten track. Saw a swamp wallaby on the way in. Rosellas and fairy wrens in the trees. A box full of twining tea. A very comfortable bed, huge spa bath...a place to sit on the veranda watching the sunset.

Love living by the beach and spending my holidays in the snow (especially the wonderful culture & folk of Japan).
Have a busy life running around after a three year old, welcoming our new son to our family, working three jobs, loving my husband & eating cheese. And I wouldn't have it any other way!
We spend our weekends around home, with fishing trips, hiking and surfing, and love folks who also appreciate the great outdoors.
