Our Norwegian/Zambian family are wishing you welcome to our home in Zambia which is a newly renovated (2017) and modified colonial house from 1908 with design details in wood. This is a private house we live in with a local feel (with all its charm and failures) and not a luxury accommodation (search for the hotels then!). We live very close and attached to the town, but we have a rural feel to our land anyway with a number of fruit trees and some greens. Have a bite!

Other things to note

We offer help from a house keeper, Angela (house and clothes if you like) every second day for free. 2 extra mattresses are available in the house for extra guests. We have a caretaker, Arnold, who is living behind the house who is working part time for us. But you will be given the keys so you lock yourself in and out of the house and gate as you want to. We have a night guard.
Updates June 2017: All bathrooms are now connected to a water heater

Halvor's place is extremely convenient. It is within walking distance to many excellent shops and restaurants, as well as to a taxi stand. A taxi to the Falls from the house is very affordable. The house itself is clean and spacious. I would highly recommend Halvor's place to groups or families, although I would clarify the size of your group with Halvor in advance to ensure that there are enough mattresses, linens, kitchen supplies, etc. in place before you arrive.

Excellent, comfortable and good value. Right in the middle of Livingston and a friendly/welcoming staff. Will be back

Had a comfortable stay. The house is uncluttered and neat in a quiet area. It is walking distance for an ATM and grocery store. Angela and Arnold were helpful and friendly hosts. The only difficulty was the wifi internet connectivity that stopped working on the 2nd night due to an ISP related problem. I can certainly stay there again on my next visit to Livingstone!

Great that you had a good time, Wessel. Bad luck with the Zamtel internet this time (normally quite good in fact but Arnold told me about the issues this time). Welcome back at any time and thank you for the recommendation you are giving your friends!

Over-priced. Not worth the money they are charging. But first, let's start with the positives. The two Zambian caretakers, Arnold and Angela, were amazing! They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The house is in a great location in Livingstone, two blocks from the main drag. The house is a very modern design (European-style bathrooms, IKEA cabinets in the kitchen). It's a large comfortable space and unlike several reviews, we had no issues with the mattresses. Now to the negatives. This house was $40 more than comparable houses that we stayed at in Jo'burg, Maputo, and Cape Town. It might be worth the $100 if they fixed the following things. The kitchen is not well equipped at all! It can sleep six people and there were 4 & 3/4 forks (one was missing a tine). There were no wine glasses. There were only three bowls, not including the mixing bowl we were forced to use. The pots were rusted, not the healthiest way to cook food. How much would it take to give Arnold or Angela 200 Kwacha to go to the Shop Rite and buy all this stuff? It shows a complete lack of attention to detail. Also, in two of the bathrooms, there were only wands to take a squat shower, so we wall ended up showering in the one with a properly mounted shower head. Finally, the most egregious short coming was no kitchen table. No place to sit and eat except for the sofa. When you are charging above going rate, this needs to be addressed.

Thank you for your nice feedback of our staff, Dempsey. They deserve it ;-) I am sorry that you did not find the new set of forks and knives from February (all pots and pans are bought then as well). Arnold tells me they are still there. More furniture will come. The pictures tells the full story by now. But we will like to improve ;-)

Overall this was a great place to stay. The house is very spacious and attractive, with interesting period features, and modern kitchen and bathrooms. It's in a very convenient location, just a five minute walk to the centre of town and 10 minute taxi ride from the falls. Communication with Halvor was easy and friendly, and the staff were helpful (tip: confirm the housekeeper's hours with her - unless you want her coming at 7am!). The only thing we didn't like was the mattresses: those on the master bed were two well-worn foam blocks, not in keeping with the quality / price of the home. Also, perhaps because of the recent renovation, the house is still minimally furnished - could use a dining setting, clothes storage, wine glasses etc. Finally, based on our other recent air bnb experiences, we always appreciate it when hosts provide a printed information folder with key contacts, house info, local tips etc.

We stayed 2 nights in May 2017 *Bad Thing: There are 3 bathrooms but only 1 shower is working. So we shared the bathroom. And the host inform us after payment '1 bathroom is not available for hot water'. The caretaker is not around the daytime so we were opening/closing the gate ourselves. There is not enough towel. Mattress is not comfortable. *Good Thing: House is beautiful and clean. The location is the best (town centre). House keeper wash the clothes. Thank you.

Response from Halvor:
There are 3 bathrooms in the house. 2 bath rooms worked very well before the guest arrived (worked well for other guests in May) and we notified the guest that the 3rd bathroom did not have a water heater now (new one is coming this week 22 ), but there will still be som warm water in the pipes and two other showers/bathtubs to be used in the house. It was very unfortunate that we did not get any feedback from the guest during the stay that there were issues with the master bathroom shower, so we could have a chance to send in a plummer. The caretaker is working part time (we could have informed better), the house keeper is coming every second day (clearly stated) and there is night guard as well. We do not have a doorman, it is a private house and the guest are getting the keys.
