2.Residents sleep in four-person and six-person bedrooms. Each bunk comes with underbed storage bins, your own half-height closet space, and additional suitcase storage. All upper bunks have a bedside-table space.3.We use the main living often for movies and shows, but it is also a calm place to hang out and have a relaxed conversation. We also have musical instruments residents can borrow, since many residents find it difficult to travel with instruments but miss them.

About this listing

Welcome to our community of curious souls! If you're looking for somewhere to call home for any period of time, you found the right place. Come grill, chill, make, and hack with us, and when you leave, stay in touch!

The space

Radio Eden is composed of one large house with a smaller backlot building which is divided into 3 apartments. The campus is laid out so you can spent time playing video games, working on projects, socializing, playing games around a table, or simply introverting in the study. Beds are in small bunk rooms, divided into snoring and nonsnoring, and far away from social areas, and always quiet, permitting residents to choose whatever waking hours they (or jet lag) choses.

Guest access

We have one kitchen which is set up specifically for residents to use for full cooking and a small microwave/refrigerator space adjacent to the bunk area for midnight snacks. There is an additional kitchen on the 2nd floor which is fully operational but a bit cluttered and not advised for use. Residents also have an introvert study/office area, a picnic area, a social living room, and a games/socializing room.

Interaction with guests

Guest interactions are central to Radio Eden. There are a wide variety of social spaces to get to know your fellow residents in along with quarterly holidays (feel free to ask if your stay overlaps with one) where alumni come home to visit. The house runs weekly nights where interested residents and alumni watch a currently airing show together (historic examples include Rick and Morty, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and Kill la Kill). Your RAs are eager to serve as mentors and advisors, and have helped a sizable percentage of residents get work or at least clean up their resumes.

Other things to note

Radio Eden is a safe space that welcomes people over 18 (sorry, liability), regardless of age, gender identity, race, nationality, sexual orientation, country of origin, disability or education level. We are unfortunately in a rented property and each unit has 1-3 stairs required to get into it and one social space on the 2nd floor. If you need us to build ramps to make the first floor accessible, give us some warning.

It was a very nice place to stay at Mountain View.

I had an awesome summer at Radio Eden. Everyone is very kind and it's a good opportunity to meet new people. What I find worth mentioning is that before I arrived there I was afraid that I might have issues sleeping in a shared room, but they do a really great job taking into account sleeping habits and I can't tell how well I slept the entire summer. Other than that, I am myself more of an introvert and I still had a really great time at Radio Eden.

This is a real hacker home! I have stayed here during (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) I/O 2016 and slept with five other guys in one room. All the people I met there have been friendly although I came late and left early in the morning. The accommodation can be compared to that in a hostel and some minor things still need to be done. Overall it feels like some students shared flat which can be pretty cool if you are open-minded and interested in tech stuff ;-) My host was Katy - she was really straightforward but in a nice way. She also told me that it's was the first time the whole house was completely booked - but this did not seem to be problem at all.

No one was there to meet. The number provide did not take the call. There were multiple doors and there was no proper guidance to find my place or whom to contact. I had to talk to some guests who were in the kitchen area (they were boozing - nice people though). Then one of them showed me a door once I knocked a guys came and asked questions. The small room I got had two double bunker beds. There was no enough space to even move. Two guys were there. Room and the bathroom was smelly. Out side the room there was good space, kitchen, study area. There were about 15 to 20 people in the whole dorm (one main unit and a separate smaller unit) Also all the doors are open though out the night. Not sure how safe the area is. Overall I thought it not good enough for the fee of $65. There are other places for 40 to 60, might be a better experience. I wont go there again and cant recommend it.

Radio Eden is awesome. If you like to meet awesome people who are willing to sit down with you to talk about whatever you're interested in and make you feel welcome, this is the place to come. Everything was super clean and close to transportation (5min walk to Caltrain).

Katy Of Radio Eden User Profile

We are Radio Eden and Alliance Dvaraka, two happy independent dormitories. Each provide flexible communal living, particularly for short term residents like interns, exchange students, consultants, etc.

Our RAs based at Radio Eden (Mountain View) are Katy, Eric, and Derrick.
Srikanth is the RA for Dvaraka (Palo Alto), though he often gets backup from the Radio Eden RAs.

Katy is the house head of Radio Eden. She is a former NASA roboticist, Xoogler, and a jack of all trades. She helped run Hacker Dojo during its more community-centrered phase. Eden is the 9th communal house she has helped run. She likes video games, PJs, and her husband named Cliff who is not part of the company but also lives on campus. Cliff is a graphics programmer at an independent game studio. He likes the 80's, things which go "boom," and Jeeps.

Eric is an RA based at Radio Eden. He is a physicist, mathematician and former grad student. Eric moved in to Stonehenge in March 2015 to finish a paper he wished to write independently outside of grad school. He helps with strategy, logistics, and focusing on what is highest impact to the resident's happiness and the dorm's overall health. He likes philosophy, movies, books of every kind, and being right.

Derrick is an RA based at Radio Eden, but currently at Alliance Dvaraka to finish Srikanth's training. Derrick started as an economist but since then has spent a lot of time studying math, languages, literature, programming, machine learning and playing Marth in SSBM. He has been intermittently with the crew since 2013, and now focuses on logistics. He likes anime, ironing, neoclassical music, and extremely specific lightbulbs.

Srikanth is the house head for Alliance Dvaraka. He is a physicist turned programmer who now works in international immigration. Srikanth met the group because he went to college with Eric. He likes meeting people, art, EDM, board games, Burning Man, and generally being an extrovert.

Taiyo 社長 (pronounced Taiyo Shachō) (English: President Taiyo) is the landlord's cat who lives with us. He is huge, grey, and while he often does visit with the residents outdoors, the only indoor place he is permitted is the RA's unit as many residents have allergies. When not overseeing the company and our guests, he studies ornithology and applied optics. Eric also keeps a golden knee tarantula named Dash in a tightly-closed container. Dash was a surprise gift from his brother, makes Eric incredibly happy, and is never permitted outside of the RA's unit.

Shared hobbies of all the RAs include Super Smash Brothers Melee, casual philosophy podcasts, media from different time periods, trying to be decent programmers, anime and cooking, though we each have individual tastes.
