About this listing

Quiet neighborhood in desirable south end of town. Walking distance to Lake Champlain. Close to restaurants and downtown activities. Private back yard with large deck and landscaping. Antique decor, sunny living space. Upstairs bath shared with owner

The space

The guest room has a double bed with a rarely used new comfy mattress and a selection of handmade quilts, crisp cotton sheets in warmer months and cozy flannel in the winter. There is closet space in the room and 2 bureau drawers available as well as a coat rack. Towels are supplied on the quilt rack in the room. Blanket is changed and washed between each guest for added comfort and cleanliness.

Guest access

You are welcome to use any parts of the house (except my room, of course). Enjoy the quiet and lush surroundings on the back deck, lounging in the hammock or eating or working at one of the tables. Or grab a seat in the sun drenched living room or warm up by the fire of the gas heater. You will be given a key for access to come and go as you wish.

Interaction with guests

I will be here when you check in to answer any questions and direct you to an abundance of fun and entertainment close by. I'm currently working on a print out for this. Want to visit a brewery? We've got plenty close by. Vineyard, Citizen Cider, Ben and Jerry's, Champlain Chocolates, shopping, waterfront activities, biking, hiking, skiing, arts and entertainment, night life, Burlington has it all! Unless specified prior to arrival, I will be in and out all during your stay.

The neighbourhood

This is a truly lovely, friendly, quiet and safe neighborhood in one of Burlington valued hot spots! It's close to the lake and lots of art and funky galleries, breweries, restaurants, and entertainment, and less than 2 miles from downtown's pedestrian Church Street.

Getting around

Downtown is less than 2 miles away, with easy access to bus route to town at top of the block, or a short drive to a downtown lot where the first 2 hours of parking are free. Lots of guests Uber if they are planning an evening out, which are readily available. Or hop on the bike path to town and beyond.(I have 2 bikes available to rent for only $5/day. Locks, lights, and helmuts included. Regularly maintained).

Other things to note

Please let me know of your approximate arrival time within a day prior to your arrival so I am prepared and available. If I don't hear from you until you are in town and ready to check in, I may not be as readily available (I am pretty active and busy myself!!)

Byrd and her dog River are both wonderful, they were very welcoming and easygoing. Byrd had some great recommendations in the area and was accommodating.

The stay with Byrd was nice and her home was exactly as advertised. Byrd and her dog River were very welcoming. There are a couple of breweries within a few blocks. Walking into town was about 1.5 miles down the lake bike path and was a nice walk, but we took an Uber back at the end of the night which was about $14. We rented Byrd's bikes for $5/day each and did the Burlington Bike Path - highly recommend! Thank you for the nice stay!

My daughter and I very much enjoyed our stay with Byrd and her dog River. River is a very friendly yellow lab and was the highlight of our stay for my daughter. We also enjoyed meeting Byrd who made her home available on short booking notice. The rental is a private room with shared living space with Byrd and River. It wasn't clear to us however, how shared the space was as this was never specified and every sitting and counter space was covered with objects except for our room and the shared bathroom. I think this was likely to deter River from sitting on the furniture, but it also deterred us. The dining table was formally set with tall objects so it felt as though it was a hint not to use and the fridge had no designated area to add anything else. We also found it quite a trek to walk into town and it cost nearly $20 to catch a taxi from the bus station to the home. Uber rides into town were more reasonable however at around $7. Byrd's home is very nicely decorated with local art and historical photos. It is also spotlessly clean and located in a safe neighborhood. It was a nice restful first stay for us in Vermont.

My friend and I had a lovely stay at Byrd's. The place was cozy and adorable. Byrd made us feel very comfortable and offered great restaurant suggestions.

Byrd was an awesome host and her home was lovely and cozy. It happened to be very cold and snowy the weekend we were there so we drove into Burlington's downtown in about 5-8 mins. If it were nicer weather, we definitely would have walked! Byrd was welcoming and communicative. She told us about events that were happening and restaurant recommendations. Her dog, River, was also wonderful and made our stay so fun! Thanks so much!

Lovely warm home a short walk from waterfront and a moderate walk to town through a cool arts district. Delightful host and friendly golden lab. Cozy stove and pleasant rooms and indoor space. Great to hang-out with a book and a cup of tea or return to after an active day around Burlington!

Active single retired teacher. Recently moved into Burlington from years of being a country girl and loving it! Access to lake, restaurants, festivals, music, culture. Spend time kayaking, biking, hiking, and outdoor festivities in the summer. Skiing and projects in the winter. Have a 2 year old sweet and super friendly yellow lab. Quiet home, no TV, but wireless internet access. Love this quiet little neighborhood so accessible to downtown! 2 miles to the downtown marketplace, or hop on the bus at the top of the block, or walk up the bike path along the lake. A lively arts neighborhood with lots of studios nestled into old brick warehouses throughout. Several live theater and music venues. Switchback Brewery, 4 short blocks away. Citizen Cider, Queen City Brewery, Zero Gravity Brewery, and Lake Champlain Chocolates all just up the street. Friday food trucks during warmer months less than 1.5 miles.I just purchased 2 bicycles at our local bike swaps for your riding pleasure. Helmets, locks, and lights for each, only $5/day to help defray costs! Access to my 2 kayaks upon request.
