Lovely rustic cabin on the Sandy river in Zig Zag, OR. Minutes from Mt Hood & all Ski areas, Hiking trails, Fishing, Biking, Golf and Spa. Close to restaurants, pubs, grocery stores & resorts. We are dog & child friendly *.
This cabin is in the woods, surrounded by lush greenery & wildlife. We embrace the setting & do our best to keep the critters at bay. If you are afraid or allergic to spiders, insects, critters or wildlife, this may not be the rental for you.

The space

Our cabin is a little rustic home in the woods backing up to the Sandy River. The cabin was built in the 30's & is very sturdy. It is rustic chic with its forest charm & very warm & cozy. A great getaway from it all. The kitchen is stocked with all the equipment you need with some pantry items. Lots of space to play games, relax & converse, & make food for feasts. There are 6 real beds, one futon & one chaise lounge (this is located in its own alcove complete with light).
We allow pets & children. We have spiders, insects, critters & wildlife around the cabin & sometimes in the cabin. The dustbuster is for the spiders and their webs. If you have allergies, please bring your medication. There is no phone land line so if you or someone in your group has a medical condition, make your own safety provisions. Civilization is only a mile away.
Please be respectful of the deck furniture and store accordingly. Follow the rules for the BBQ. Smokey the Bear reminds you that fire is a big concern of the forest.
There is a fire pit for fun campfires. Be respectful of the furniture and the surrounding forest. Bring your own firewood and kindling. There is not a hatchet on site.
You will need traction devices in winter to be in the Mt Hood National Forest. Rangers and patrol may deny you access if you do not have them.
You will also need to purchase a recreation &/or snow pass available at any store up here. $5/day.

Guest access

All spaces are accessible except white cabinet in laundry room. water heater closet, locked shed, and neighbors properties. You can walk up and down the river bank, but be very mindful of the river. Its fast and cold!

Interaction with guests

I will be available by phone should any issues arise.

Other things to note

You are in the forest. If you have small dogs, please be aware that they can be swept away in the river and taken by eagles, hawks and other critters. There are bears and cougars out here. Mind your animals at all times. Do not let them roam free on the property. Make sure they can't dart across Lolo Pass Rd. We've had dogs loose and end up across the road at the neighbors property. They have a bull mastiff who will not harm dogs, but will hold them until someone comes for them.
Same goes for small children. Always wear life jackets when on any river. We strongly discourage guests from going into the Sandy River. There are signs posted. There is no life guard; we are not responsible for you or your family's safety in the water or the woods.

It's idyllic. Exactly what the doctor ordered. We're already looking at our calendar to see when we can go back.

My friends and I had a great stay at the cabin. Deborah was very prompt with communication and all of our expectations were met. Access to fly fishing and mountain biking was excellent and the mossy backyard forest is a great place to relax under the tall cedars. I would definitely stay there again!

I wish I could give this place a great review, but I can't. It's an awesome location on the river and the cabin is filled with charm and has lots of room. But, I questioned the cleanliness when I saw a only a dirty old sponge for guests to use, and provided no common guest toiletries. I purchased new sponges and shampoo, which should have been provided. Also, the shower was clogged, and discovering the owners were aware of the problem and yet didn't fix, added to the disappointment. I hope the owners fix these issues, because it is a charming cabin right on the river and it should be a great place for families to relax and enjoy.

The excellence of Deborah's place isn't adequately described in the photos. It's very lovely and serene. The sound of the rushing river provides music from Nature anytime you step outdoors. The place is cozy and inviting. The host is unfailingly prompt in her replies and gracious. We couldn't have liked it better.

Amazing location! My kids (6 and 8) just wanted to hang out in the back yard, tromo around in the woods there and of course play on the edges of the creek. Loved how we felt we were in the middle of the woods but also quick drive to great restaurants and hikes. Bonus: sweet couple on the street sells eggs from their chickens, look for their sign. Cabin interior was cute, beds were comfy and we all slept very well. Kitchen and bathroom is rustic but useable. Great communication with Deborah. She recommended some great trails (btw our fav short trail with waterfall was Zig Zag Falls) and Rainbow Trout Farms fishing which was the highlight of our trip.

Response from Deborah:
Thanks for your kind words. Hope to see you back soon. As for the dinner plates, a really tall guest stored them in the highest cabinet. Ack! All is remedied now.

The inside of the house was bigger than I expected, which was fantastic! The river view was gorgeous, and while there were neighbors, we felt so secluded! This is the perfect location, and all of the guests from the weekend complimented my choice in picking this house for our vacation. Deborah answered my questions very quickly too. We will be back!
