This cozy bamboo cabin is unique and alive. It has two bedrooms with a queen bed each. The balcony overlooks to the sea so does the kitchen, dinning room, living room and bathroom. You will appreciate the open view everywhere. Wake up among the chirping of birds and the swaying of the sea breeze. Traditional cuisine available. Enjoy! You can go fishing with the neighbors, or take a bike ride to the beach. There are a couple of nice restaurants nearby, or you can prepare your fresh fish.

The space

This cozy bamboo cabin is unique and alive. It has two bedrooms with balcony, kitchen, dinning room and bathroom with and open view. Wake up among the chirping of birds and the swaying of the sea breeze. Traditional cuisine available. Enjoy!

The cabin rests on a hill overlooking the beach of Don Juan. This fishing community is extremely friendly and hospitable. You will have the cabin to yourselves, but we will be close by if you should need anything. There is a traditonal mantense oven on the back yard and plenty of space to take a walk or enjoy the view. The beach in Don Juan is beautiful and there are plenty of other beaches nearby you will want to explore.

When we are not in Don Juan, we are nearby in Guayaquil. We have groundskeepers and other friends in town who are available to help with anything you need.

The cabin is up on a hill so, if your are not driving, it takes a 10 minute hike to reach it. It is isolated and safe. You will be more comfortable if you come with a car, particularly if you are not able to walk up and down the steep trail between the house and the village/beach.

The tap water is not safe for drinking. We will leave the first bottled water for you, and if you need more you can find it in Don Juan or in Jama. For grocery shopping you have stores in Jama and fresh fish you can get if you go down to the beach.

This will be a cultural and environmental experience you will be living like a real manabita family. While the cabin is extremely clean and confortable, you should not expect modern devices such as A/C or windows, the sea breeze will be enough to keep you cool.

Guest access

You will have access to the gardens, the hamocks and the paths towards the beach,

Interaction with guests

We live in the main house,if there is anything you need we will be close, but will always respect your privacy.

Other things to note

We have 2 cats and a dog. They are friendly but don´t appreciate other pets.

Rut and Esteban are excellent hosts. They are very knowledgeable about the area and it's history. They went out of their way to accommodate our interests. We will definitely stay with them again when we return. Their neighbor cooked authentic Manabí food for us and it was delicious.

This is the most relaxing, beautiful cabin, perfect for midday siestas or getting away from the touristy side of the Pacific coast. Ruth and her husband are lovely, laid back, helpful hosts who offer a complete home for you. Don Juan is not one of the "hottest" spots for Ecuadorian sun-seekers, but is rather a clean and quiet beach with plenty of a.m. action from local fishermen, hauling their catch in every morning, which is fun to watch. The walk up to Ruth's cabin from the seashore takes 10 mins. and a delight to do if, like me, you enjoy a leg-stretch, and not in the midday sun. Otherwise having wheels helps.

My colleague and I only stayed for one night; it was a work trip to visit projects in the local community that are part of recovery initiatives following the 7.8 earthquake in April. I have stayed in the cabin before and it is wonderful, earthquake resistant and embodies the design and spirit of Manabí bamboo houses. A great stay and great hosts.

Even though we arrived late at night, Alexandra the very friendly helper of Rut, was there to guide us the way to the cabin. We spend a marvelous thime there and our little daughter just loved the cats and the donkey.

I have not met Rut but her friend Alexandra who takes care of the house is an extraordinary host. The house is rustic but very comfortable. A nice breeze keeps it cool and drives away the mosquitoes. There is a nice view of the Pacific coast. Going in the morning to buy fish from the fisherman arriving with their catch is a real treat.

Response from Rut:
Francoise is a great guest. He enjoyed being sorrounded by nature and was inmediately connected with the environment. He is a great cook and while being very independent he also connected with people in the vicinity. I hope we see him again.

Both Rut n Esteban where really welcoming, good, fun and friendly, with lots of ideas on things to do in the local area. We felt very comfortable during our 5 nights stay. It was a great place, very clean, quiet, with a nature connection and a fantastic view. Highly recommended.
