The space

Situated on a mountain top 4 miles North East of Downtown LA on a private road, this unique constructivist modern home is one of a kind. With the closest neighbor a quarter mile away, except for the unreal views of downtown LA, you really feel like you are in the country. Step out the front gate and you are in one of the last truly open spaces in Los Angeles with a network of fire roads, hiking trails and vistas, walk a bit further and you are in Debs Park a 300 acre regional park and home to the Audubon Center. The house itself has great kitchen, espresso maker, washer dryer, steam shower, high speed internet, wireless sound system, a master bedroom with tempur-pedic bed and a rolling glass garage door, a sleeping loft for additional guests or kids and a very nice cleaning lady who comes once a week. The garden has a large natural earth pond (great for swimming), deck over looking downtown, hammock, trampoline and two giant and very friendly desert tortoises (dog in the picture not included). Located in Montecito Heights, go down the hill and you are in Highland Park with easy freeway access to the 5 & 110 and the gold metro line. Restaurants, shopping, museums and nightlife in Downtown, Silver Lake and Echo Park are 10 minutes away. It (email hidden) for musician, artist, writer or really anyone looking for city proximity and country tranquility.

Amazing location with impeccable view. Rustic getaway somehow right in the middle of LA

Absolutely unique getaway just outside of DTLA! From the spacious yard, swimmable pond, and beutiful view there isn't anything more we could have asked for. Gabriel was very easy to work with and more than accomodating given our own particular circumstances. Highly recommended!

The place is bohemian chic and wonderful... isolated down a very rough dirt road you arrive at a magic oasis. Could not have been more please and took great pride in feeding the giant Tortoises.

Gabriel's place is amazing and we had a great time. The location is close to downtown LA but feels very private and isolated. It was a perfect place for us to stay while our home was being remodeled.

We were so looking forward to our stay here because it got such great reviews, and I can see how some people would really love the place. But if you mind having mice in the living room, flies in the kitchen and moths on the bed then look elsewhere. There are cuss words written …

Response from Gabriel:
Wow. Out of respect and consideration I did not leave a review of Shannon as a guest, because she was not one. And so I was shocked to see that she left a review, as she and her family did not even stay. I assumed that since I graciously agreed to let her out of her reservation and give her a refund after she had checked in (despite the fact that it would have been consistent with airbnb policy not to), that if not respectful and polite, she would at least be silent. Instead she chose to write a scathing and completely dishonest review. The honest truth and the real reason she asked to leave had nothing to do with mice, moths or flies, but that the contemporary art I have in the house challenged her ideology (the sign she refers to is programmed with aphorisms by established artists and poets and the "cuss" word on the chalkboard is "damn”). But as this is still a country that honors free speech and being offended by that expression would not provide reasonable grounds for backing out of a reservation, she chose to lie instead. She claimed to have seen a mouse, not "mice". Based on this claim, immediately after she left, I put traps out and hired an exterminator who found no evidence of mice (or even a mouse) and two weeks later the traps are still empty. Her daughter did find a single nearly microscopic moth on top of the bed, at which point and in front of me, Shannon stripped the bed in an unsuccessful hunt for any other bugs. For someone who arrived at my house with two unannounced rabbits and left my bathroom (where they were confined for the three hours they were at the house), smelling of urine and scattered with turds and hay, Shannon's indignation is galling. In my description of the property I state that the house is on a dirt road, has an earth pond and desert tortoises. It is in the country. That said, it is professionally cleaned every week and despite what Shannon says I urge anyone to comb past reviews to find a similar complaint (see even the review that was left by the guests who stayed two days after Shannon left). As for her coded statement that I live in a "bachelor pad” (implying that it is unfit for families), I gather from this that Shannon thinks that someone who does not share her beliefs cannot or should not raise children. She is as wrong as she is intolerant and mendacious. I beseech anyone encountering this cruel and libelous review to compare it to the years of positive guest experieinces or even a recent article in the Village Voice ("How Lucius's Second Album Drove Them to Go Above, Beyond by Hilary Hughes 03.08.2016) which features the house, referring to "the Mountain" as a sanctuary for creativity.

Gabriel was a great host! ...and the spot is unbelievable. My parents, grandmother, and I loved staying here for a long weekend. Centrally located for all needs, but totally isolated from the noise and business of LA. The pool, outdoor shower, sleeping nooks, kitchen, views, and …
