Other things to note
Doub Erickson House is perfect for visitors and residents needing temporary accomodations who want to enjoy the town, the bay, and the beach without the hassle of driving. In the heart of Wellfleet Center Historic District and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Great for kayakers, Doub Erickson House is steps from Duck Creek itself, with peekaboo water views from the drive and from the shared deck. Doub Erickson House is four doors from Mac's Shack on one side and a half dozen houses from the town pier and other dining options on and around Mayo's Beach on the other side. Walk to Wellfleet's many galleries, Uncle Tim's Bridge, and any other in-town location. Experience sunsets from the pier, food from any of many options, and the Wellfleet Harbor Stage, a three-minute walk away. You don't need a car if you stay at Doub Erickson House.

Easy, off-street parking for one vehicle on the property (campers, or other oversize vehicles must be parked elsewhere). The town pier is close and does provide additional parking if you have a camper or need additional parking.

Some of our apartments feature private patios or other areas for storing your equipment while not in use. If you need help finding a safe, secure location to park bikes, kayaks, or other toys while you're with us, please ask. We have options.

This apartment is superbly situated for kayakers, bikers (both off-road and on-road bike trails are easily accessible), sailors docked in the harbor (we're less than a quarter of a mile from the town pier), visiting artists (you can sketch from the deck, from the water front, or virtually from anywhere you look!), writers (we have good wifi), and the indolent (there's always the front porch) or lots of other fun towns and scenic areas to explore by car ... Runners will enjoy the three mile run to the oceanside, or the two-and-a-half miles to the Herring River Gut. Hikers can leave for Great Island by foot from the house, or bike to the Gut and leave their bikes there to continue their journey on foot.

Put out your kayaks on Mayo Beach or one of many nearby ponds or bike to Duck Harbor or the oceanside beaches or ponds, or just take a short walk down to the town pier in one direction or the town water pump and Uncle Tim's bridge in the other.

We're on town water. It comes straight from Wellfleet's aquifer and is delicious and safe to drink.

Our apartments each feature original art by Janet Doub Erickson and her friends. This offers guests the opportunity to see Wellfleet as seen by longtime Wellfleet residents. Evarts first came to Wellfleet in the 1930s; Janet Doub started drawing here in the nineteen-forties.

Neighbourhood highlights

Wellfleet's Commercial Street meanders along Duck Creek and ends at the town pier. One of Wellfleet's older homes, Doub Erickson House was built by whale oil merchant Samuel Peake in 1825 on Duck Creek and is remarkably well-preserved. For decades a boarding house for Wellfleet locals and fishermen, Doub Erickson House has been progressively restored and carefully updated in recent years and now houses the art collection of Janet Doub Erickson, a New England graphic artist and author, and her long time partner, Evarts Erickson.

Our property includes a creekside cottage, a multi-family Greek Revival Commercial St building where generations of Wellfleetians have lived, and a family sleeping annex. We completed partial renovations June 2024. While our family has a long history in town, personal obligations are keeping us away. Steve, who knows Wellfleet intimately from long residence here, is currently on Duck Creek. We will do our best to make your stay enjoyable.
