The space

Our home is a short distance from a Connecticut River Boat launch, Pisgah State Park, Warrwick and Mt. Grace State Forests, and the Metacomet-Monadnock trail system. We do have our own trails off of the property and just on the other side of "our" little mountain is a section of a rails to trails system, which stretches for miles between Keene (NH), Brattleboro (VT), and Northfield (MA). The space is decorated with vintage and antique items and furniture. It is perfect for a retreat or a base for your outdoor adventures.

We love our animals: alpaca, horses, chickens, 2 cats, and a dog. We also love the animals that venture into our yard. Recently a moose took out a section of our horse fencing. Though, mostly we see deer, coyotes, fox, possums, countless numbers and species of song birds, and birds of prey (a pair of red-tailed hawks nest here and bald eagles fly over frequently in the summer and fall months).

We have some sporting equipment we can offer; snow shoes, and a couple of sets of cross country skis (for the right size people) & kyaks if you can transport them. We also have a hot tub located under the stars that can be used any time of the year & a gazebo that is nestled on the front lawn with a gas fire bowl, swing, and bistro table for leisurely pleasures.

We invite you to visit us

Guest access

The house divides into two sections quite easily. The front portion of the house has incredible views and is the area we hope our quests will enjoy. Three bedrooms are upstairs (one with a queen size bed, one with a full size bed, and the third with one or two single beds). We also keep a full size bed in the living room as extra lounging space. There is a bathroom upstairs with a shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for guest use.

We ask that should you like to use any of our sporting equipment you make arrangements ahead of time.

Interaction with guests

We do expect to be able to welcome our visitors, walk them through the house and answer any questions they may have. Most often we will be present through the duration of our guests' stay. When we are not we make arrangements for house sitters who sometimes stay on the property. While guests are visiting two doors close between the "guest space" and "our space." There is privacy for everyone and the guest space feels like a home to itself.

Our interaction with guests is typically limited to greeting them. We are available by phone to answer any questions that our guests may have and are willing always to help with suggestions for outings.

Getting around

We unfortunately do not have public transportation nearby. There is a train station in Brattleboro. The train is sporadic through the day and runs north to south. The bus can be board in Keene, Brattleboro or Greenfield, depending on where you are seeking to travel to. There is a local bus in Brattleboro called the Moover (Cow Powered!), which can take people along VT route 9. We suggest having your own car to visit us.

Other things to note

Our two cats may visit you at your request. There is a cat door that can be unlocked if you are hoping for a visit.

Parents: Please note, we love having young ones visit with us. The alpaca, especially love little children. Our home is furnished and decorated with many antiques and vintage items, is over 200 years-old and can, for some families, be a hard space to manage for multiple young children, specifically toddlers, so we limit the ages of children who come to stay her to under 1 years and older than 6 years.

We are in a rural area. There are convenience stores, a local grocery store and several farm stands with local produce within ten minutes from us. Keene is a 20-30 minutes drive depending upon traffic and the route chosen to get there. Brattleboro and Greenfield are each 20 minutes from the house. Please consider this as you plan your trip.

DAMAGES: Guest understands that this property is a private residence and agrees to indemnify owner of the property from costs or damages associated with being harmed on the property.

CLEANING/LINENS/DISHES: Guests are asked to leave the home in the same condition as when they arrived. The home is furnished with blankets, bedspreads and pillows, linens, bath towels and hot tub towels. Guest must supply their own towels for use at the beach.

No hot tub usage if you have been or are drinking.

Dishes should be washed, dried and put away.

We may consider well behaved dogs with excellent reviews.

If you are eating in bed--which we understand, you are on vacation--please use an old towel under your plate to protect our linens. Many of the bed coverings are vintage and difficult to replace. We will charge an $80 fee to replace sheet sets that are damaged and the actual replacement costs for stained bed-coverings.

When you are ready to leave, please remove the sheets from your bed and leave them on the kitchen floor.

We love our house and know you will too. Thanks for your help in these small ways, it keeps our space available for others in the future.

My wife and I had a wonderful long weekend away in the mountains at Gentlewomen's Farm Stay! We picked the spot for relaxation and animals and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of birds (even a wild turkey!). The alpacas are adorable and Stacey and Sue can show you how to get in to see them up close. Bring baby carrots and they will eat right from your hands! The home is comfortable and private. Everything was clean and as described. From the living room couch you can see a beautiful mountain view and watch the alpacas and birds from the window. The hot tub outside under the stars was wonderful! The location is rural (which is what we wanted), but in 20-30 minutes you can get to larger towns that are fun, such as Brattleboro, VT. Thanks again! This is a great spot!

One of the best vacations I've had in a while! This place is truly a find - it is an old-fashioned farm house that sits ontop of a hill that overlooks a beautiful valley. There are adorable chickens, bunnies, alpacas and horses. Upon arrival, fresh eggs awaited us! The rooms are beautifully furnished and it has a sizeable and well-stocked kitchen for cooking and hanging out. One of the best parts is the hot tub - we hung out in it on a snowy night and it was magical. It's very close to trails for snowshoeing, xc skiing, etc. And if you're into exploring towns and eating out, it's only 20 or so minutes from Brattleboro, which is a quaint but happening town with breweries, good food, and shopping. Stacey and Sue were very warm, welcoming, and helpful. A real amazing find!!! I 100% recommend.

Stacey was a lovely host and gave great advice for things to do. The best part of the experience were the views, the peace and quiet and the animals! The house was spacious for two, and the winter time coziness made the time inside enjoyable after a long hike through the state forest. We felt as if we were the only ones around and appreciated the escape from the city.

We had a great time at Stacey's place - beautiful views from hot tub and house, lovely inside, and a well equipped kitchen. We loved meeting all the animals! Stacey and Sue were excellent hosts, friendly and informative but giving us plenty of privacy. Would very much recommend staying here.

We stayed at Stacey and Sue's place for three days and two nights. Their home is remote from the main parts of town, which was fine with us. Wifi is available, but don't expect consistent cell service. Stacey was a wonderful host. She was communicative, friendly, and attentive. The listing was clean, as described, and full stocked with essentials, kitchen ware, etc. Also, we LOVED the animals, and had multiple opportunities to feed them. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place for folks seeking a getaway. Thanks again!

I'm Stacey and my partner is Sue. We live in a beautiful home overlooking the top of the Pioneer Valley. Every morning we wake up and are reminded that we are incredibly blessed to live on the side of "our" little mountain. Recently, with the urging of friends and family, we decided we want to share this space with others.
