Valentina and Pia we wonderful hostesses on this beautiful island. We loved being on the quiet end of the island. We enjoyed morning walks along the cliffs on the east side to the park at the southern peninsula, snorkeling off the shores of the west side beach and happy hour at Casa de los Suenos. We loved being able to use the bikes and golf cart to get into town for shopping and fishing. Pia was an amazing host, very easy to communicate with and incredibly accommodating, she even helped us track down our luggage which had to be delivered from Cancun. We can't wait to come back!

It was a treat to escape the touristy north end of the island. Overall we enjoyed our week and there were many things to like: the large terrain around the house, the big trees and the sound of them blowing in the wind at night, the greenery, large windows with screens you can open, a comfortable bed, TV, a bench for our suitcases, the large shower’s with hot water. The bathroom is open concept - so now door on either the toilet or shower - which was awkward with our guests and visitors. A few shortcomings worth mentioning. There’s nowhere comfortable to relax - just a hard wooden bench in the living room. Not even a hammock outside. When we were tired we ended up sitting on our bed. There’s no freezer in the fridge so no ice - something we sorely missed in the hot weather. The air conditioner in the bedroom works well but it blows right on the bed which I didn’t like. While the property is as as shown - what’s missing is the road that runs along the length of the property and the very large empty hotel across the road. At first I was disappointed b/c I wanted to be completely immersed in nature - but I got used to it. I came for the nature so I would have really enjoyed some comfortable permanent chairs outside our space to enjoy it more but hauling out our 2 kitchen chairs with their thin legs on the uneven terrain wasn’t that great a plan when we tried it. Very scarcely furnished kitchen if you plan to cook - only 1 pot + 1 pan! So making food was challenging. Even though there’s no house manual that mentions it, you’re on your own to provide standard house disposables like dish soap, a brush to wash dishes with, matches to light the stove, bags for the garbage, toilet paper etc. - unless the previous tenant leaves some of these things. When we arrived, tired and hungry, we couldn’t even turn on the stove until we went to the store to buy some matches - not so straight forward as we didn’t have transportation. And there are very few restaurants in the vicinity - and no stores that I’m aware of. The sheets were too small for the bed and came off every night. I saw some other sheets in the house but they didn’t look right either. The main light in living room wasn’t working. Maybe I didn’t know how it worked. The house comes with bikes but they were in need of repair and weren’t ridable. After mentioning it a second time, our host graciously gave us the use of their golf cart for a day as compensation. The house has a lot of electrical outlets but for some reason, most of them are difficult to use. At least half I could’t use at all and the other half - I used with great difficulty. This...

The hosts are very freindly and accomodating. The Chalet is very clean, modern and cozy. The big windows are beautiful, makes you feel like you are outside, while looking out at the trees and yard. Closer to the other cabin that expected, and closer to the road than expected, but it was not an issue. I felt very, safe, left all the windows open at night. The location was perfect for us, much quieter on this side of the Island, close to snorkeling and a little private beach just across the street. We used the 2 bikes available to tour the island and rarely needed a taxi. A taxi to town was only 80-100 peso depending on the time of day. A great value for this beautiful place!

Wonderful Stay! Highly recommended for savvy travelers!! This place made our trip to Isla. I seriously doubt we would have enjoyed our time on the island nearly as much had we not stayed here. This is not a five star resort, and it is not right near the busy Playa Norte beach. Two things, in my opinion that make it such a great place! Valentina and her family were awesome hosts; very helpful when we needed help and extremely accommodating. The house is super cool, very cute and unique, and had everything we needed to live comfortably for the week we visited. Things we wanted above and beyond that, we purchased at the grocery a couple miles down the road. The house was Very clean. The best place is the location. It is clear on the south end of the island, away from the main tourist areas, which means you need to take a taxi to the other end. For us it meant that we could get away from the hustle of the main part of the island easily when we wanted, or take a taxi or golf cart into town when we needed something, or to eat out (there are a number of decent restaurants very nearby as well). It is only a 5 minute walk from Punta Sur, which was our favorite spot to watch the sun rise and set each day. On two nights the traffic on the road was louder, but it did not last terribly late. After sundown on the other nights, it was so quiet, all you could hear the geckos, the wind, and the ocean. Awesome if you are looking for a unique little place to call home, and don't want to be crammed into a tiny condo or spend your vacation in a soul-less island resort.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic time staying in the Swiss Chalet 2. It's beautiful little place that was built by Valentina's father, who met us to give us the key. The interior is beautiful and more modern than I was expecting. It has large windows that let in a delightful tropical breeze. While you won't get great views from the chalet, it sits in a lovely yard with a number of large shade trees and is a short walk to the beach. In fact, it's a short walk to either side of the island. The beaches near the chalet are gorgeous and the water calm and great for snorkeling or kayaking on the lee side of the island (the beach closest to the chalet). These beaches are rocky and not great for sunbathing, though. If you want sandy beaches, head to the north end of the island. It's a great little hideaway away from the touristy and busier northern end of the island. The place has everything you need...linens, bath towels, refrigerator, small gas stove, cookware, etc. One thing to be aware of is that the Swiss Chalet 2 is very close to another house that is rented on Airbnb (Swiss Chalet 1, I presume?). This was not a problem for us at all, but if you're looking to be really secluded, you might not like that. Other reviewers commented on the bathroom not having a door. The bathroom is open to the bedroom area, so you probably want to be pretty comfortable with the person you're staying with, but it really wasn't a problem. You could always ask the other person to go for a walk if you needed some privacy. Speaking of going for a walk, Isla is very safe. Multiple cab drivers we talked to said they love living there because it's so safe (not to mention how beautiful it is!). We didn't have any trouble catching a cab from the area to get to the north end of the island. The cabs come less frequently at night, but the longest we waited was maybe 15 or 20 minutes. We also enjoyed riding the bikes that are available at the Chalet. All in all, I highly recommend the Swiss Chalet 2 for a peaceful get-away.
