This beautiful Guest House is located in San Roque de Grecia, Costa Rica, just 35 minutes from the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) centered in the heart of the agriculturally-rich province of Alajuela. Known as the cleanest city in Central America, Grecia offers shirt-sleeve days and an excellent nights year round; the weather is very similar to San Diego, CA. Nestled along the picturesque Vigia River, we provide upscale amenities and attention you would expect to find at a fine hotel, but at a budget-friendly price.

El Nido Apartment is a small quaint 2nd level space with its separate entrance, bath and Queen Size bedroom, kitchenette, living area and gracious size outdoor balcony with views. The grounds are located on a park style setting behind secure compound fences/walls. There is a beautiful entrance garden you will notice once inside the compound. Your apartment is connected to the main house with a private entrance. Coming downstairs from your apartment you will find a large veranda where breakfast is served to all guest overlooking two other gardens on the property. There is a small river between the central garden and the main garden accessible by crossing the bridge. The central garden area is bountiful with exotic birds, flowers, orange, lime, lemon and avocado trees. It's the perfect spot for a private picnic or small event nestled beside the river. Each guest is given a key to the compound entrance along with their room key. When driving onto the property, please honk so that we may open the gate for you.

Interaction with guests

We are the specialist in arranging private customized tours to any destination of your choice. Adrian is our English speaking tour operator who is glad to make small site seeing and photo opp stops on the way and coming back from your primary destination. He will also drop you off and return to pick you up a few days later if you request that service.

The neighbourhood

Nestled in the Central Valley’s rolling hills and sugar cane plantations, Grecia is a picturesque town with a mild climate and several worthy attractions. Known as the cleanest town in Latin America, Grecia boasts an immaculate and beautifully landscaped central park that is dotted with huge shade trees. Beyond its charming locals and temperate climate, Grecia is known for unique attractions like the World of Snakes reptile museum and Los Chorros, a pair of pristine waterfalls set in a private reserve just minutes from town. There is also a family-run butterfly garden and, for the history buff, the Casa de Cultura museum has plenty of local folklore and colonial artifacts.

Getting around

Bus: Public buses depart San Jose for Grecia at the crossroads of Avenida 3 and Calles 18 and 20. The hour-long journey costs approximately $1.75. Buses leave San Jose every 10 minutes between 5:40 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and every 30 minutes from 6:00 p.m. to 10:20 p.m. (Transportes Grecia: ) - The same applies traveling from Grecia to San Jose. While in Grecia you can take taxis at a reasonable fair also.

Other things to note

La Terraza Guest House offers curb side Airport pick-up and drop-off services any time of the day or night. A full custom breakfast is included in your room rate. Our cook Christina can also prepare traditional local meals or any meal to your liking. Lunches are 8 US and dinner is 12 US. If you like to eat out we can recommend several local restaurants for your to try. .
