Our home was built with a lower level to accomodate our four children. We are now empty-nesters and share that space on AirBnB. You will be guests in our home with a private-entrance (your choice to mingle or not). Adding meals is negotiable.
Traditional Amish-built log home situated on 14 acres in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains is run as a private boarding house. Three separate bedrooms are available to rent on a lower level with a shared living area, kitchenette and a 3 room bath (separate rooms for shower, toilet and sinks). Each room is rented and listed separately on the AirBnb website. Family style meals can be negotiated for an additional cost. Owners reside on property. Private and forested with abundant wildlife (deer, elk, porcupine, rabbits, fox, squirrels, pine marten, coyote, raccoon, moose and bear have all been sighted on the property. There is a seasonal firepit, a covered porch and sun filled deck (when not snow covered).
Located 15 minutes from either Winter Park or Sol Vista Basin Ski Resorts (both with summer activities) and 40 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. The YMCA of the Rockies, Snow Mountain Ranch, Pole Creek Golf Course and Devil's Thumb Ranch Resort are all located within 10 miles of the property.
Winter Activities include: alpine or cross country skiing, sledding, snowmobiles, ice-fishing, dog sled rides, horse drawn sleigh rides and ice skating.
Summer Activities include: golf, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, hot air ballooning and the many music festivals in the area.
Transportation (pick up/drop off) may be arranged during your visit. Extra cost is negotiable.
This is a double bed room and is located in the quietest part of the house. It is also the sunniest (two large windows, one with a window seat) and still the coolest since it is furthest from the forced air heating system. We can provide a space heater for this room if you feel the need.
Access to seasonal decks, covered porches, firepits, ample parking.
Interaction with guests
Interaction is up to the guest. Private spaces are respected by both hosts and guests. The guest chooses to mingle or not by entering owner's space through french doors in the entrance hall).
It is quiet and friendly with lots of open space and wildlife but also has easy access to all of the Fraser Valley.
Unfortunately we are still in a small remaining rural enclave of the Fraser Valley and there is no public transportation available.
Other things to note
AirBnB blocks all contact info (phone nos., email, etc) until after reservations are confirmed. New AirBnB guests often don't realize this and include their cell phone nos. for an initial response. These nos. are blocked in your inquiry, please keep this in mind! All of our initial communication must occur right here, via the website. Thanks
This is run as an old-fashioned boarding house more than your customary Bed and Breakfast. We rent private bedrooms that offer a shared living/kitchenette/bath rooms for the exclusive use of guests. We can provide family-style meals for an extra cost. There is a full-size refrigerator, microwave and coffeemaker available in the guest kitchenette. There is no smoking anywhere in the home. If you choose to smoke outside, please be respectful ot the forest and "leave no trace". Quiet hours are between 10pm and 8am. There is a rambunctious Golden Retriever male on the premises, but guests may NOT bring pets and children should be supervised. We ask that you remove your shoes at the entryway (we have slipper socks for your use). And, please store your ski boots in the entryway as well. There is no maid service unless you are here for longer than one week. You are expected to keep things tidy during your visit for the comfort of everyone (cleaning the microwave, coffee pot, dishes, counter tops and table after your use). Plus, please wipe up the bathroom sinks, tub and toilet splatters after use as well (no one likes to see another's globs of toothpasts, make-up, hair, or your toilet and sink dribbles, etc.). We do deep cleaning after each guest departure and provide linens and towels for you. There is a separate entrance for our guests with a set of French doors to the owner's personal space. When the curtains are drawn we ask not to be disturbed. However, when the curtains are open, you are welcome to join us. If you have an emergency, please call our phone nos. at any time. We want you to feel at home during your visit and to enjoy the time spent in our mountain community, so we are here to assist you in any way. Please do not block double garage doors when parking.

We are semi-retired empty nesters who are parents of four near-perfect children and grandparents of 9. We live in beautiful Grand County, Colorado and love to share our mountain community with visitors. Our children grew up and went to school nearby. And although they consider themselves Coloradans, none of them live in state right now (what you have to do to for work and family). We built our family log home on 14 acres several years ago to accomodate everyone and now it's just us most of the time. Our kids were pretty surprised when they heard we were sharing their rooms with strangers! When we built there was only one neighbor within a mile and in all of Grand County (1800 sq mi).there was only a single streetlight! One night some folks actually set up their camping tent in our "yard". It's not quite like that anymore! Today, we have over 300 homes in that mile radius, but we STILL have our 14 acre "buffer" and it's peaceful here. BTW, there are at least 8 traffic lights in the county now and lots of talk about adding another. Doug and our neighbors fought the recent scourge of pine beetles and were rewarded with a healthy forest and abundant wildlife. Our home is situated peacefully "smack-dab" in the middle of the combined 30 acres and we've seen bear, fox moose, deer, coyote, pine marten, porcupine, racoons, squirrels, chipmunks, and marmots on our property.
Doug is a retired pilot turned bookkeeper/handyman/day laborer (that's the forestry part of his life) and he's a closet musician (I am the only one who gets to hear him play!).
I've worked mostly for the US Gov't. (Dept. of Defense, IRS, and US Post
Office). Now, I work wherever/whenever it's time. I'm the one who decided
to work as an innkeeper/maid at this point in our lives because "keeping
house" was what I most enjoyed and did pretty well.
We love music and attending the many outdoor summer concerts in beautiful Grand County as well as the frequent indoor shows all winter. We are long time members of the local Grand County Blues Society. We ride motorcycles (Roadstar for Doug and a V-Star for me). We built our home ourselves (with lots of help from great local sub-contractors and an Amish log crew from Montana). We enjoy golf, hking, and skiing together. I also like to garden. We especially enjoy having guests to our little peace of paradise.
After a career traveling by air (including hotels and restaurants) my husband dislikes it these days (and I'm raring to finally use our flying benefits!). If we go anywhere together, it's usually by car (with our Golden Retriever, Duke) or motorcycle.
We mostly let our guests decide how much they'd like to interact with us. Our spaces are separate and guests can come/go via their own entrance. If they'd like to jolin us, we have a french door for their access. Sometimes we can arrange for apres' ski wine and cheese before dinner or a pot of chili to share for an extra nominal fee.
Besides our Golden Retriever, we occasionally foster shelter puppies awaiting adoption via Mountain Pet Rescue.
