About this listing

Bute is a hidden gem on Scotland's western coast. You could say it is a miniature Scotland (15km long and 6.5km wide). This apartment is in an ideal location (Rothesay) to best enjoy all that this magical island has to offer.

The space

I bought this property in June 2015 and have loved spending time here renovating the apartment to its current condition. It's a 19th century building situated directly on the seafront. It's on the fourth (top) floor, but believe me the reward is the world-class sea view! (however I'd advise you to consider this factor if you think the stairs might be a problem for you).

The apartment itself feels warm and cosy with plenty of space for up to four adults. The apartment boasts two double bedrooms located at either end of the hallway from each other, offering maximum privacy.

The living room area offers a comfortable area to relax, watch television or catch up on the day's escapades around the island. The apartment has gas central heating throughout, easily controlled via an iPhone app (iPhone supplied).

The kitchen offers full cooking facilities along with a nespresso coffee machine. There is an island in the kitchen that you can sit at to keep the nominated chef in your party company!

There is full WiFi available along with an HD television and Apple TV, offering Netflix and other movies available via iTunes.

An airplay enabled speaker in the living room allows you to play any music you wish via your own devices or via the iPhone or iPad that are available for your convenience.

I can highly recommend the bike hire shop located on the ground floor of the building. It makes getting around the island super-easy and it's handy when you need to return the bikes too.

The apartment is located about a five minute walk (if that) from the ferry terminal, so it is possible to arrive via the ferry as a foot passenger. If you'd rather bring your car there is plenty of free parking just in front of the apartment building.

Guest access

You will be able to enjoy full access to this entire apartment.

Interaction with guests

I live in Edinburgh so our contact will be over the phone or via the app, however I have a team of people on the island who help me with guest hand-overs, so help is never far away. :)

Other things to note

Bute is often called the undiscovered Isle, which is ironic as it is the most accessible of Scotland's islands. It is only a 40 minute drive from Glasgow Airport (or 50 mins on the train from Glasgow Central) to the ferry terminal at Weymss Bay and the ferry ride takes another 35 minutes.

While crossings to Bute are now on modern car ferries, you can still experience the magic of 'The Waverley', the world's last sea-going paddle steamer.

It's a beautiful ship - all gleaming brass and polished wood. It still sails regularly to Bute and at ports around the British coast for day, afternoon or evening excursions. (Seasonal)

There is a bike hire shop on the bottom floor of the building, which is handy if you fancy seeing the island that way.

The flat is beautiful, and very close to the ferry terminal and all of Rothesay's shops and cafes. Graeme was friendly and helpful and quick to answer any questions. I could have spent many more days watching the world go by, and was sad to leave. The honesty bar was an unexpected and very pleasant bonus - if I stay again I'll bring a bottle of Welsh gin to add to the collection! Other Airbnbs are going to have a tough act to follow. Thank you!

Absolutely gorgeous flat right in Rothesay on the water. It is central as well as quiet within quick walking distance to local shops, pubs, cafes, and restaurants, as well as the ferry. Graeme has a great little guide and reference book with recommendations on places to eat and visit on (and off) the isle. The flat has everything you need to enjoy a long or short stay, with a kitchen that has all the amenities you need to make yourself a meal or nice hot cuppa, hairdryers, phone chargers, free parking just out front on the street, and fabulous views. It is walking distance from many sites and attractions and if you do not have a car, the public transportation can take you anywhere you may want to go. I will definitely return to this lovely spot my next visit to Bute!!

I had a lovely weekend in Graeme's flat. He was really easy to communicate with and check in was easy. It was good to know the flat was on the 4th floor as it meant we packed light! The flat was relaxing and a beautiful spot to watch boats come in and out. The coffee machine in the flat and all the little things Graeme had thought of like wireless speakers made it such a lovely space to spend time in.

A lovely apartment, right in the middle of Rothesay, very close to the ferry terminal. The place is beautifully decorated and well stocked and I felt really at home. Graeme was very quick to respond to all messages, and has clearly put time into making the apartment welcoming. And the views are fab - perfect for sitting at the window with a G&T looking out over the bay!
