The space

Aloha mai ka pu'uwai! (Aloha from the heart!)

We would love to have you visit our beautiful Haleiwa vacation rental! Our 3200 sq. foot home sits on 10 acres of VERY private farmland at the end of a gated dirt road. We’re surrounded only by our orange and lemon groves, the Wai’anae mountain range, and the nearby Anahulu stream. The views are beautiful and panoramic from inside the house and out - no matter where you look you will not see another house, only greenery! Lenora has a green thumb, so be prepared to be surrounded by lush tropical landscaping and blooming orchids. We have views of both the sunrise and the sunset that will take your breath away. Our fully furnished home is perfect for romantic getaways, family vacations or holidays with friends.

Our friendly farm dogs are named Jingles, Ramona, and Auggie, and they LOVE our guests. If you get lucky, you may even get to meet Meowter, our farm cat, and Bella and Helen, our hens!

Our Haleiwa Secret Garden Paradise vacation rental is a 5 minute drive or a short walk to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, such as Ali’i beach, Laniakea (turtle beach), Waimea Bay, Pipeline and Sunset Beach. We’re just a couple of minutes from Historic Haleiwa Town (known for its country atmosphere, excellent restaurants and eateries (Matsumoto shave ice!) and quaint boutiques and galleries. You can get away from it all or be in the heart of Waikiki in a quick 40 minutes. It really is the perfect vacation home on the North Shore.

Guest access

The Haleiwa vacation home rental is comprised of the entire first floor of our house (1600 sq ft) while we occupy the top story, close enough to ask for advice on where to eat, where to surf, where to go for fun. The rental has private entrances, a private patio with al fresco dining area and grill. It sleeps 5 adults comfortably with 2 huge bedrooms with queen-sized beds, and a queen-sized couch (futon) bed in the living room. We also have a fold-out mattress that can be used if needed. You’ll love relaxing on the lush grass in our 1/2 acre yard, on the porch swing on the covered lanai, or on the sunbathing lounges around the back of the house.

Interaction with guests

Lokoea Farms (our family farm) is a real working farm. Don and our daughter, Noe, would love to show you around our orchards and you can even pick your own oranges, lemons, papaya, mango, avocado, guava, or whatever is in season. Lenora has a huge greenhouse filled with hundreds of orchids that she loves to show off, please ask for a tour! We love to share the Hawaiian lifestyle with our guests, and if you’re interested we can show you how to string a plumeria lei, open up a coconut, or make the freshest smoothies you’ve ever tasted!

The neighbourhood

Haleiwa is the surfing capital of the world. Winter time is for surfers and summertime is for snorklers and stand-up paddleboarders! Turtles are ALWAYS sunning themselves at nearby Laniakea beach, and Shark's Cove and Three Tables are great for snorkeling and scuba diving. You can also rent a SUP (stand-up paddleboard) or a kayak and journey up Anahulu stream from the historic Haleiwa Rainbow bridge all the way up to the Secret Garden vacation rental!

Surf or just be a spectator at famous surfing spots, Velzyland, Backyards, Kammies and Sunset Beach just short drives away, and Haleiwa Ali'i Beach (Home of Bay Watch) is within walking distance. Ali'i beach is wonderful for beginning surfers, and you can take a lesson or rent a surfboard from Surf-N-Sea. In the Winter, watch in amazement as the best big wave surfers surf 20+ feet swells. Between December and May, watch Humpback whales frolic right from the beach, or take a whale watching, sport fishing, or shark cage charter right from Haleiwa Harbor. No matter what time of the year it is, you can always enjoy peaceful, private walks on the sandy beaches overlooking crystal blue ocean, or on the mountain paths.

Dine at great restaurants in Haleiwa Town or at the variety of roadside eateries. Don't miss the Proud Peacock Restaurant at Waimea Bay Falls Park, with live Hawaiian music! Just a 5 minute walk away, our rental is close to Matsumoto's Shave Ice, located in the newly completed Haleiwa Store Lots. This new shopping center has dozens of local boutiques and galleries. Haleiwa is a great little town to walk around in.

Learn to do the Hula and more about the Hawaiian and other Pacific cultures at the Polynesian Cultural Center. Hike through beautiful botanical gardens and end with a swim in Waimea Falls at the Waimea Valley Park. Find delicious and exotic local fruit at our weekly local farmer's markets at the Waialua Sugar Mill, North Shore Marketplace, and at Waimea Valley. Golf at the Turtle Bay Hilton Resort. The North Shore is also famous for its other sports, including windsurfing, kayaking, water skiing, sailing, and horseback riding. Pretty much anything you want to do here, we can point you in the right direction!

Getting around

Although there is a bus system that runs around the island (and through Haleiwa), renting a car is the best option for most of our visitors. We do have free parking available on premises. We are a little less than an hour from the airport, depending on traffic.

Absolutely amazing. The place was the cleanest Airbnb I have experienced and stocked with everything that we needed......plenty of towels, toiletries, laundry detergent etc. The property is very safe and gorgeous. Lenora and her family shared amazing experiences with us.....papayas and lowquats from their trees, making leis from their flowers, my two year old was able to smash a coconut and drink the water and eat the meat, gather eggs, and enjoy the land.! Breezy and spacious. Gorgeous views. Walk to town. We loved it so much! Such a once in a lifetime experience for our family. Thank you Lenora and fam!!

What a little piece of heaven this was! Don & Lenora are charming, friendly people who love to talk story, and they have a farm with fruit trees (oh, the papayas!), charming dogs and chickens, and a massive orchid collection. The rental is the ground floor of a house they built, which was comfortable and spacious for 4 guests, and has some nice outdoor space for eating. It's a convenient location for the North Shore surf beaches, snorkelling at Shark's Cove and visiting Waimea Falls, which were some of the highlights of our trip. We would definitely stay here again.

My family had a wonderful stay. The location is pretty and secluded but also close to town and the beaches on the north shore. Everything in the description was accurate and Lenora was very easy to communicate with. Highly recommended.

The Secret Garden was a great place to stay on the North Shore. Pros: Very convenient location, comfortable beds, beautiful gardens on property, friendly hosts; Cons: no AC, shower water pressure was really bad, lots of bugs - insect repellent is a must!
Lenora User Profile
Response from Lenora:
Aloha, Mahalo for your feedback. We found the root of the problem for the water pressure. The sprinkler out back had a broken pipe under ground and it is repaired. So water pressure should be back to par. Although we do a through job of cleaning, the sink faucet knobs were replaced with new ones to eliminate dirty appearance of the knobs. We appreciate the honest feedback and the opportunity to make the rental better for our guests. We enjoyed your visit and hope your vacation was enjoyable also! Lenora and Donald * : )
