Welcome to our 1923 apt. Enjoy downtown views from your queen bed AND the shared patio. Long ago doors were removed from the bedroom to the living area to maximize space. Full modern kitchen, spacious vintage bath. Prime location and easy parking!

The space

Walk to Sunset Boulevard and "the triangle," the hot spot of Silver Lake, from our unique vintage duplex. You will enjoy the view of downtown Los Angeles from your queen size bed and also from the large patio right outside.
This apartment boasts the charm of the 1920's from it's original crown moldings, hardwood floors, china cabinet, built in dresser, bookcase. Furnished with a retro dining table, 1930's family heirloom love seat, custom reclaimed wood bed frame with newer high quality mattress, HBO, new HD flat screen TV, high speed wireless internet, ipod dock, ceiling fan and alarm clock. you will experience the unique mix specific to the designers taste. The apartment is equipped with plush towels, succulent bedding and a small library of books that relate to the history of the neighborhood. The full kitchen is fresh and clean and has a new fridge, gas oven and is stocked with dinner ware and utensils. The remodeled bath has an over sized tile shower and vintage style sink true to the period. The apartment opens onto a shared patio and vintage patio furniture, lush fruit trees and landscape lighting. We offer free laundry right outside of your apartment and the washer and dryer are new as well. Our residential street is tree lined and filled with homes rather than apartment complexes making parking safe and easy with no permits required. This is a very walkable safe part of Silver lake. We enjoy a twice weekly Farmer's Market, Sunset Junction and a bevy of notable cafes and coffee shops. Get to know the famous sets of stairs known as the "Music Box Steps" from Laurel and Hardy's early films and the Micheltorena stairs at the top of our street. These will take you right to Sunset Blvd. For monthly stays we require maid service every other week. This is a family environment not a place to party. Your discounts are already included in the price. We love pets but our apartment is pet free. The zebra painted rug is cowhide.

Guest access

No check in before 4pm unless arranged before arrival. Unless you have been given directions into the apartment, please meet me at the front door at 4pm. The 600 square foot patio with vintage table, chairs, fire pit, fruit trees and a smashing view of downtown Los Angeles. Free laundry right outside of your door (please keep all personal items including laundry inside apartment).

Interaction with guests

Depending on the guest and what is going on in our schedule you may see us maintaining the property, picking fruit or gardening or not at all. We realize some guests enjoy getting to know their host and some are busy working. Please let us know which is your preference.

Other things to note

Our neighbors are very cool but please follow directions carefully into our apartment so that they are not disturbed. We stock coffee, tea, filtered water, dish soap, trash bags, bar soap and some condiments. There will be some paper products to get you started. Guests are expected to supply any other items they desire or need after the initial check in. We have wind chimes hung near the apartment-if they are a nuisance please use a rubber band to quiet them or let us know so we can take care of it for you.

Please be considerate of others while enjoying the outdoors. No late night parties, unauthorized/last minute sleepovers or smoking inside. While we want you to enjoy the outdoors, this is not a place to meet up with friends or plan your business meeting. Additional guests (more than 2) are never allowed and not following this rule may result in changes to the reservation.
We are listed with a professional location company, professional photography prohibited.
There is a washing machine and dryer for the apartments to share. Please do not leave personal items or laundry on the shared patio. If you need to hang wet clothes, we have provided hangers and lots of closet space. Consider the environment when using the air conditioner/heater and turn off when leaving the apartment.
Smoking inside the apartment and additional guests will result in loss of deposit and cancellation of reservation.
Late checkout fees will apply. $40 per half hour after 11:00.

A great location to explore LA, walking distance (but a steep hill) to Silver Lake, and 15 minute $7 ubers to downtown. LA traffic means it's an hour or more to get to the beach. Parking was easy and plentiful outside on the street. The views from the end of the garden were great, and the views in the neighborhood are amazing as well thanks to that steep hill! The apartment is in the basement of Houston's house but has a separate entrance, and we met Houston's husband who was very friendly.

We were happy to host Hannah, but I do not want future guests to think this is a basement apartment. The apartment is built into a hillside like most Silverlake hills homes. The apartment opens onto a spacious patio strategically facing views of the downtown Los Angeles skyline. Sorry about the weather.

Firstly, I'd like to say how lovely and helpful Houston was, from checking in to helping with the problem we experienced in the house (see below). The space it's self was fine, slightly more shabby chic than the images portrayed, a few simple updates would make it a great place - the couch was super uncomfortable so we only really could relax on the bed, and I'm not sure I'd cook in the kitchen but as a basic place to crash in a nice neighbourhood with a friendly and helpful host it was fine. Unfortunately, whilst staying in the property we smelt gas, which Houston investigated immediately once we asked. In the end, she didn't need to get the gas people out (although she was more than happy to) as her husband found the issue - a pilot light that had gone out. Seemingly small, but in a small space this cooker should be updated, I don't see how it's worth taking the risk on this with people renting out. I would not stay here again with the dated appliance, even if this happens irregularly we were lucky to smell it and get it quickly sorted. Apart from that, Parking was plentiful and free on the street, and the location was good.

Firstly, I would like to say that we take great pride in our property and are updating regularly. Our stove that was such a problem for Holly, is checked out yearly by the gas company and is safe. Holly could not understand that my husband, being a realtor for 20 years, knew what the pilot went out and relit it immediately. She argued with us and refused to acknowledge that the stove is safe. I would not want to deal with a person like her again. Though, I don't feel like trashing her in a review is a classy way to deal. Her bashing of the decor, shows a large lack of knowledge of historical home, heirloom furniture and her true colors.

A lovely little apartment with a great garden and view of Downtown. Walking distance to a few places to eat/shop and right in the heart of the hip area of Silver Lake with very easy/free parking. We didn't get to meet Houston but keys and entry were easy. We had everything we needed including access to a washing machine which was helpful after three weeks of road tripping!

A quaint apartment that is well located. Houston, the host is quick to reply to emails and, whilst she lives on the property, she is available when needed but not at all overbearing. Parking is easy out on the street, and the area feels residential and safe. I would not recommend this place to those over 5'5 (the shower head is very low) and light sleepers (the bedroom is light and I couldn't help but wake with the upstairs neighbours' morning routine) but otherwise, and if you are looking for a little period hideaway, you won't go wrong.
