Where you’ll be

Auckland, New Zealand

Greenhithe is a charming suburb located on the North Shore of Auckland, New Zealand. Nestled between the Waitematā Harbour and lush native forests, Greenhithe offers its residents a unique blend of natural beauty, modern amenities, and a strong sense of community. With its picturesque surroundings and convenient location, Greenhithe has become a sought-after residential area with a range of appealing features.

History
Originally only easily accessible by boat, Greenhithe was established as a self-sustaining community by Henry James Blyth, who settled in the area in 1882 and came from the original 'Greenhithe' in England. Greenhithe comes from the Old English word 'hithe' or 'hythe', meaning wharf. The name is appropriate, since Greenhithe is extremely 'green' in colour and also has a wharf at Lucas Creek - a water passage that flows into the estuaries of Auckland's Waitematā Harbour.

Scenic beauty
One of Greenhithe's most outstanding features is its stunning natural environment. The suburb is characterised by its green landscapes, rolling hills, and proximity to water. Residents can enjoy breathtaking views of the Waitematā Harbour and the Upper Waitematā Basin. The area is also home to beautiful parks, reserves, and walking trails that allow locals to immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature.

Strong community spirit
Greenhithe boasts a strong and tight-knit community that takes pride in maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The residents often come together to organise community events, markets, and gatherings that foster a sense of belonging. This communal spirit creates an environment where neighbours become friends, making it an ideal place for families and individuals alike.

Convenient location
Despite its peaceful ambiance, Greenhithe benefits from its proximity to essential amenities and key locations. The suburb is conveniently located near the Northern Motorway (highway), providing quick and easy access to Auckland's central business district and other parts of the North Shore. Additionally, Greenhithe is within reasonable distance to shopping centres, schools, and healthcare facilities, ensuring that residents have everything they need within reach.

Recreational opportunities
As well as the harbour and every watersport imaginable, the area is well-connected with walking and cycling tracks, parks, and sports fields. Locals engage in various outdoor pursuits, from leisurely strolls to more active sports. In addition, two of Auckland's iconic North Western beaches (Bethell's Beach and Muriwai Beach) are within 30-40 minute's drive.

Cultural significance
Greenhithe also holds cultural and historical importance and the suburb has a rich Māori heritage, with many local landmarks and place names reflecting this.

Dining and shopping
While Greenhithe provides a peaceful retreat from the bustling city life, it also has a supermarket, cafes and several restaurants.
