Elvyn Lea Lodge hosts scheduled groups and events in a private retreat setting, and we are now offering some rooms through AirBnB for individual travelers too. When we don’t have large groups here we may have several rooms available so our property is a good choice if you are looking for a place to gather with friends or family. There are 20 rooms here and we can accommodate up to 80 guests. Each room has a small bathroom with shower. A continental breakfast is included in the rate.
The building, constructed in 1957, has a classic northern Michigan lodge interior, with log beams and large central gas log fireplace in the main lounge. It has the feel of a summer camp for grown-ups, and will be most enjoyed by those who appreciate the history and natural beauty. We have made upgrades that guests appreciate, including comfy beds and high speed Internet, but retained the nostalgic charm.
Key features of the property include our location in the heart of northern Michigan resort country and near Walloon Lake, widely known as the boyhood summer home of Ernest Hemingway. The communities of Walloon Village, Boyne City, and Petoskey are nearby. We have 44 acres with walking trails, including several fire pit areas and a 1.5 acre event lawn.

Interaction with guests
We are here to welcome guests and help them settle in. We will provide you with a key, access code, and any information you may need. There is so much to do here that guests are usually eager to start exploring the area soon after their arrival. We may turn on the fireplace in the mornings and evenings during cool or cold months. We are here during breakfast in the mornings. After that we may be away from the lodge during the day, but are available by cell (voice or text) if needed.

House rules are intended to make the lodge more comfortable, safe and enjoyable for our guests and staff. Most guests who choose to come here appreciate quiet recreational activities, so we seek to maintain an environment that allows for that. Smoking (including use of e-cigarettes) and unauthorized fires are strictly prohibited. Read on for other details. This information is also available in the lodge so you will also have access to it during your stay.
Capacity: The maximum capacity assigned to to each room is equivalent to one person per bunk and two persons per queen or king size bed. Rates assume use of one shared or individual bed per guest. Use of additional beds will result in additional charges.
Keys & Security: For your security and that of other guests, please do not share your door code or key with anyone who is not currently a guest here. Do not let anyone into the building that you do not know to be a current guest or staff member. Guests are responsible for returning keys prior to departure.
Outside Guests & Vendors: Elvyn Lea Lodge operates as a private retreat for overnight guests. Visits by non-lodging guests allowed only if previous arrangement have been made. Any visiting guests are expected to follow lodge house rules and policies. Any outside vendors are subject to approval by lodge management; some restrictions may apply.
Common Areas: Unless your group has rented all guest rooms or reserved a lounge for a private function, items belonging to your organization or to guests in your group may not be left in common areas. Please leave personal items in your room or lock them in your car. Please be considerate of other guests when sharing the lodge. We reserve the right to turn music down or off or require guests to discontinue activities that are disruptive to others.
Event Rental: Use of the lawn for any planned events must be arranged in advance. In some cases a site fee may be required. Groups planning to hold private gatherings in the main lounge, including but not limited to dinners, weddings, and presentations, must rent all guest rooms.
Housekeeping: During your stay our staff may enter your room to change towels, replace toilet paper and soap, empty trash, etc. We operate with a small staff and do not routinely make beds. Please let us know if you need additional supplies to make your room more comfortable. Please leave wet towels on the bathroom floor if you would like them washed.
Food: Food must be stored in coolers or sealed containers and not left in common areas. Unless prior arrangements have been made, food left in common areas or left in open containers in guest rooms will be discarded for sanitation reasons and cleaning fees may be assessed. A refrigerator is available in the lounge for guest use. Guests may bring in food but are responsible for timely clean up of meals (other than those prepared on site by our staff), snacks or any group activities in common areas.
Alcohol: Guests are responsible for following laws including those pertaining to the consumption and serving of alcoholic beverages. We cannot be responsible for injury or damage related to alcohol use.
Restricted Areas & Uses: The kitchen, maintenance and service rooms, and any rooms marked "employees only" or "staff only," as well as any rooms or areas not specifically designated for use by the group are off limits to guests. This is necessary for safety and for compliance with licensing and other requirements. Guests are not allowed in the large red barn or other outbuildings, or in areas behind the lodge for safety reasons. Other restrictions may be stated in the confirmation above. All lodge equipment and machinery is to be operated by lodge staff only.
Pets: Dogs may be allowed under some circumstances. You must make arrangements at the time of booking if you plan to bring a pet so that terms can be discussed and agreed upon. Dogs must be leashed at all times when in the common areas or on the grounds.
Photos: Please respect the privacy of other guests by asking for permission before taking photos of them, particularly if you plan to share the photos on social media sites.
Sports Equipment Storage: Guests bringing equipment such as bicycles, skis, or other large sports or recreational items may store in vehicles or other areas designated for storage, not in guest rooms.
Conditions of Use: We strive to provide a safe environment that supports quiet enjoyment of the lodge and grounds by our guests and staff. For safety reasons we cannot allow smoking, lit candles, or portable heaters in the lodge. Unauthorized fires, fireworks, firearms, and other explosives are prohibited on the property. The gas log fireplace is operated by our staff and is turned off at 11:00 p.m. or when staff is not present. Children and pets must be supervised at all times. Damage to lodge property beyond normal wear and tear, including but not limited to writing on walls and/or furniture, breakage due to rough handling, use of multiple beds by a single guest, and damage and increased utility costs due to windows being opened by guests during cold weather months may result in additional charges. Non-compliance with these policies may result in additional fees or cancellation of reservation without refund.
Smoking: Smoking (including use of e-cigarettes) is strictly prohibited in all areas of the lodge, including but not limited to guest rooms, lounge areas and bathrooms. Unauthorized fires of any kind are prohibited in all areas of the property including trails and outdoor spaces. Any smoking is allowed only in areas designated for that purpose. Violation of this policy will result in a minimum fee of $250 per incident and may be higher depending on damages. Violators will be asked to leave immediately without refund of payment.
Use of Trails & Gardens: Motorized vehicles are prohibited on the grounds, including all lawns and trails. Road bicycles are allowed on designated trails only. Please do not pick flowers, vegetables or berries as these are intended for the enjoyment of all guests and for use in our kitchen.
Parking: Parking is allowed in designated areas only.
