Imagine a couple's cabin getaway with stunning views, a peaceful remote location & enjoy complimentary coffee & fresh succulent local fruit upon arrival. Well, imagine no more! All this & more awaits you at Sophie's Cottage at the Last Outpost. Nestled in the scenic Hill Country just north of Bandera, this homey and romantic rental features the very best of both town and country; not only is the Cowboy Capital of the World close by, but so are quaint Hill Country towns like Kerrville and Medina.

The space
This rustic cabin rental is a nature lovers dream and you will love the wildlife-watching opportunities, with game ranches surrounding the property. Try your hand at catch-and-release fishing, or take a refreshing dip in the creek (the depth can be seasonal; inquire when you book). Even more natural and adventurous attractions are nearby, too, with the Hill Country State Natural Area, and the tubing hot spots of the Guadalupe and Medina rivers, all within a half hour's drive.

The outdoor seating area here is the perfect place to take in the glorious mountain views of the Hill Country, with a bracing cup of coffee or relaxing glass of wine. If you're in the mood for a snack or meal outdoors, there's a chiminea, charcoal grill, and fire pit for you to take advantage of here. In addition you'll be able to enjoy complimentary coffee and fresh, succulent local fruit upon arrival.

Sophie's cottage is tucked into a shady grove, and the interior is resplendent with vintage furnishings like a roomy clawfoot tub and antique stained glass window in the bathroom, and a big metal-framed queen-sized bed that's just perfect for two guests. The kitchenette includes a coffee pot and mini fridge, and the fridge is stocked with complimentary beverages. Additionally, all bed and bath linens are also provided. There's a box AC and heating unit for your comfort, and for your entertainment there's a cable-equipped TV and stereo unit with a CD player. The remote location of Sophie's Cottage means there is no Wifi service, and only intermittent cell coverage; please keep this in mind when you plan your stay here.

This vacation rental is perfect for a romantic getaway in the serene beauty of the Texas Hill Country! Contact us here at Backroads Reservations, and we'll help you plan your getaway to Sophie's Cottage.

THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA
========================

Hill Country State Natural Area: The park covers over 5,000 acres of scenic landscapes. All of which can be explored by visitors through hiking, biking and/or horseback riding. The terrain offers magnificent views that are unique to the park.
******************
Bandera Natural History Museum: Replicas of Dinosaurs, Ice Age animals, and educational play stations are located on the eight acre grounds. Inside there are over 100 full-body animal mounts positioned in hand-painted dioramas portraying their natural habitats. An international collection of art pieces are displayed in the museum.
******************
Lost Maples State Natural Area: A large, pristine area of beautiful hills and canyons on the upper Sabinal River in the Edwards Plateau Region of Texas. It is designated a Natural Area, rather than a State Park, which means the primary focus is the maintenance and protection of the property's natural state
******************
Garner State Park: A great place to visit for a swim or hike, or to enjoy a relaxing weekend. With 2.9 miles of Frio River winding through 1,774 acres of scenic Hill Country terrain, the park offers lots to see and do. Swim in the Frio River or float its waters on an inner tube, operate a paddle boat, and hike 16 miles of scenic trails. You can also camp, study nature, picnic, canoe, fish, play miniature golf, geocache and ride bikes. And, of course, you can dance. Take a virtual tour with our Interactive Trails Map. If you plan to swim or float at the park, read through our swimming safety tips before you come.

Bandera Rodeos and gunfight reenactments: It is no wonder why the city of Bandera is known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World”. This small town is the epitome of western life including local rodeos and historic gunfight reenactments. Taking in either of these events will transport you back to the days when the west was being settled and cowboys tended the land.
******************
Bandera Frontier Times Museum: The museum gives guests a glimpse of life before modern conveniences, along with a history of the settlement of the area. Bandera was the mecca for early cowboys and still holds the cowboy traditions in daily activities.
******************
Frio River: A beautiful river that winds through the heart of the Texas Hill Country, running shallow and crystal clear with spring-fed waters. When you go for a dip in the Frio, you’ll love the pretty views overhead, including the tall limestone bluffs, big cypress trees, and stunning birds. If you’re looking for a great place to fish, canoe, kayak or tube, this river’s for you.
******************
Bandera 11th Cowboy Bar: If you are looking to enjoy some great live music with dancing then put on your travel plans to spend an evening at the 11th Cowboy Bar. It’s a guaranteed fun time with great people and even better music.
