My apartment is in a red brick building, surrounded by dogs, next to a children's playground. I am at the top of Beacon Hill where there is great sunlight. The Beacon Hill neighborhood and buildings are very old and historic. If you like rustic, casual (with a little dust here and there), and communal living, this apartment is perfect. If you are looking for a perfectly clean and manicured arrangement, this AirBnB is not a good fit and I would recommend a hotel instead.
The space
Cozy, ottoman sleeping cot in a communal/shared space (approx, size of twin XL bed) in Beacon Hill for short-term stays. This bed is in a semipublic space separated by a divider. This area very small with minimal walking space and there is no storage (for luggage, bags, etc.). If you are a backpack traveler or someone with one small suitcase comfortable in hostel-type accommodations, this is perfect for you. If you have multiple bags, need darkness and complete quiet to fall asleep, and require a closet with hangers and a room with complete privacy and a door with a lock, this is not the right accommodation for you.
As a head's up, please consider the following carefully and decide whether my home is the right fit for you:
-A majority of the apartment is SHARED and common areas (i.e. living room and dining room) have semi-public sleeping accommodations for other AirBnB guests.
-There three AirBnB accommodations in this ~1000 sq ft apartment: 1 single (max 2 people), 1 double (max 4 people), and 1 ottoman cot. This means a maximum of 7 AirBnB guests could be staying in the apartment at any given time.
-There is one communal bathroom.
-This is also a "no frills" apartment. Meaning, I do not have all the bells and whistles you might expect at a traditional hotel or B&B (i.e. helping carrying suitcases up the walk-up stairs, extra towels, equipment loan, airport transportation, wake-up calls, etc.).
-There is no AC (only 1 window unit AC in the living room, installed during warmer months). The dining room where the ottoman cot is located is next to the living room with AC to keep it cool.
-Only paying AirBnB guests are permitted in the apartment.
-The apartment building is at the top of a steep hill.
-I live in this apartment. Sometimes I am out of town.
-This apartment is a walk up with no elevators.
-Shoes off policy
-No pets
-No young children
-No smoking (of any kind), weapons (i.e. firearms, explosives, knives, etc.), flames (i.e. lighter, candles, etc.), or granular objects (i.e. glitter, confetti, styrofoam pellets, sand, etc.) are permitted.
-No loud noises (music, partying, yelling, etc.)
-Although ingredients for breakfast will be provided, it will not be prepared and served to you. Every guest makes their own breakfast.
-Bedroom #1 (single) and ottoman cot guests have minimal storage space and may have to keep their bags in the corner of communal areas. Bedroom #2 (double) does have closet space.
-The apartment is very old. I have creaky wooden floors, small hot water tank for the showers (quick ~10 min showers please), etc.
-There is no private parking. Metered street parking or public garage parking is often ~10-15 min walk from the apartment.
-This bed is behind a divider so it is semiprivate and there is no “door” lock.
-Check-in time is 5:30 PM or later on the first paid day of your stay. Please let me know if you’d like to check-in earlier. Check-out time is 3 PM.
Guest access
Communal/shared spaces with other guests and myself (host) include: a fully equipped kitchen, living room, dining room, bathroom, and a roof deck.
Other things to note
If you are making a last-minute booking (same day check-in or less than 3 days in advance), we may ask you to do the cleaning and change the linens if our cleaning staff is not available. In exchange, we will waive the cleaning fee. If that doesn’t work for you, you may have to find another accommodation. Thank you for your understanding.
