A little bit of paradise....

The space
Our Hydeaway Bay Beach Hut is located on the absolute beach front at Hydeaway Bay at the Whitsundays.

The hut is bright, clean, open plan and sleeps a maximum of three adults and one child. (Queen bed, single bed & floor mattress). It has a lovely relaxed feel and is a great place to unwind, play old fashioned board games, bbq and enjoy the beautiful beach surroundings. We rely on rain water so it is really important to use water carefully.

Just off the foreshore is coral reef, on a very low tide you can walk quite a distance out and see colourful corals, sea cucumbers, clams and other creatures. There are lots of sea turtles in the area, and you can see whales in winter. People enjoy fishing off the beach. There are kangaroos in the area, so you need to be especially careful driving at dawn and dusk. There are also lots of birds - l kookaburras, owls, cockatoos, parrots, sea eagles just to name a few. You might see Dingos too. The water is often glassy flat and crystal clear - perfect for snorkelling or going out paddling the kayak. (You can swim all winter, in summer in North Queensland, there are stingers (jellyfish) so it is safer to wear stinger suits (or pantyhose works fine) when swimming or swim in the enclosure at Dingo Beach.

Hydeaway Bay is a beach community made up of retirees and holiday homes. It is about 45 minutes drive north of Airlie Beach (50 km), and 40 minutes east of Proserpine. It is just a few minutes drive from neighbouring Dingo Beach. The Dingo Beach Pub provides meals, petrol, convenience store and bait. There is a boat ramp at Dingo, and you can hire fishing boats from there. There is a caravan park at Hydeaway Bay which sells bread and milk and other small items. There is also community hall where there is a tennis court for hire, and you might catch a zumba class if you’re up early. There are two resorts within a few minutes drive, Cape Gloucester Beach Resort & Montes Reef Resort which face Gloucester Island. The Cape Gloucester Beach Resort serves lovely meals (seafood is a speciality), and there is nothing quite like a cocktail watching the sun go down. They also have a lovely pool for year round swimming by the outside bar area.

We recommend you buy your supplies (groceries and drinks) in Proserpine or at Cannonvale (Airlie Beach) before you drive out to the hut. In Proserpine the IGA is the newish grocery store, in Cannonvale there is a big Woolworths (inside a shopping centre with other shops/liquor/chemist/butcher and so on) If you are shopping in Proserpine you should take some time out to visit the fun homewares/everything else store called “Colour Me Crazy” – ask anyone in Prossie where it is and they can give you directions – it’s worth the trip. There are a number of restaurants in Airlie Beach, and this is also the departure point for charter boat trips out to the Islands / Reef from.

There is a big mango tree beside the water tank, if you are here in the summer you can pick and enjoy our lovely bowen special mangos!

Although we have a TV, and quite a few DVDS to play on it, we do not get tv reception. We also do not provide wifi, but there is good mobile phone reception, so most guests will stream their own tv/netflix etc if they want to. If you can though - do the digital detox - it's just amazing to reconnect to the warm sand, refreshing ocean, blue sky, milky way at night - you'll feel new again - that's the magic of this place.

Please feel free to contact me to tell me about yourself and let me know what you are looking for - maybe you will be perfect for the hut and the hut perfect for you!

Please review the cancellation policy (let me know if you have any questions about covid before booking). It is recommended you take travel insurance.
