This is a Studio (accomodating 2-4 people in two double rooms) within the larger property of Willowood Barn. This is a unique holiday house. We have converted a large Fremantle boatshed into a huge and fun holiday home.

The space

This is a unique property, a converted railway shed with characterful features. The central area is open-plan with a concrete floor, and is 25 metres long by 12 metres wide. The Studio is in one corner of the main barn. It is a self-contained bedsit -with a double bed and kitchen facilties. We will never have different guests in the Barn and the Studio so there is access to a large family bathroom in the main barn. In addition there is access to the large kitchen and TV snug in the main barn. If you have 4 guests then you can use the main double bedroom in the barn.

At one end is a large kitchen with a double oven, two dishwashers, and a two fridges. This opens onto a very large deck with an awning and large dining table. At the other end of the central area is a large kids play area - large enough to have a rudimentary indoor badminton court. In winter, the uninsulated main barn space may feel cold in the more open parts, but the bedrooms and TV room are made very cosy with small heaters.

Guest access

The whole of Willowood Barn and the outside area, including the large deck, treehouse and adjacent lawns.

Other things to note

There is adjacent farmland - please do not climb over the fences. Please keep to the land attached to the barn and not wander over to the next door properties. Guests must be aware of fire dangers at all times. Beware of the pot bellied stove - make sure it is guarded when it is burning. There are residents on the property, so noise must be kept to a reasonable level, especially in the evenings. There are dams on the property so children must be supervised. These provide pretty views but are off limits to visitors. Be aware that snakes may be in long dry grass in summer, and spiders may be around in old buildings. The barn is kept as clean and pest free as possible for a space such as this. Please watch the bath doesn't overflow, as there is no drain in the bathroom floor.

This lovely holiday home is situated about 5-10 mins out of Margaret River, in a secluded plot with 2 other homes nearby - one of which is only 20 metres away. For this reason, it wouldn't be a good place to rent if you're planning a bit of a rowdy holiday with mates, but if you're looking for some peace and quiet, it's perfect (don't think you have to be super quiet though - we played our music at a reasonably loud level and it couldn't be heard next door!). The barn is massive - definitely perfect for a small family or 2 or 3 couples. My partner and I were there alone, and it was probably a bit too big for just the two of us, but who's complaining? ;) The place was clean and tidy. The kitchen was very well equipped. There were lots of fresh towels and the bathroom was clean. The beautiful firewood heater was lovely and did a pretty good job of keeping the entire place at a manageable temperature. You'd definitely need the space heaters on as well in the middle of winter though. As this building is in the middle of the woods, there were a few bugs here and there but nothing that I couldn't handle. Micah, the caretaker, was absolutely lovely and very helpful. I will definitely be coming back with some friends!!

This place has the most amazingly relaxed and unique feel to it. Great views of nature and all the comforts one could want for a bit of a secluded getaway. We will definitely be back. Be sure to pop into Lewin winery for lunch, it was one of the best meals we have ever had.

Thanks so much for the wonderful stay, we had a great time :) Even though it was a bit rainy the barn was a perfect place to just hang out. Super clean given it is a barn and lots to do. Great location and communication.

Willowwood charms the cats down from the trees. It's homey and fun, and the property is gorgeous. Great for both a quiet retreat and a family trip. Made friends with a tame maggie, too! Loved it, and looking forwars to coming back!

We had such an enjoyable stay at Rupert's place! Willowood is about a 10 minute drive from Margaret River town, which makes it convenient for picking up groceries, dining out, etc, and yet it is located in a quiet, relaxing rural setting. There are a half-dozen or so excellent wineries within about a 10-minute radius. The space is airy and bright, and, as can be seen in the photos, filled with a fascinating collection of paintings, eclectic furniture, and quirky objets d'art. It's a fun space to explore! Our bed was super-comfortable, with high-quality linens. There were plenty of towels, extra blankets, etc. The shower has good pressure - note that you will have to climb into a fairly high-sided tub to use the shower, which I suppose could be tricky if you have mobility issues. I actually loved the bathroom - it was spacious and bright. The kitchen is, for the most part, well-equipped, but it's worth noting that there is no microwave and no coffee-maker, if those things are important to you. There is no phone and no Wifi. As per the description, it's a converted barn/shed, so there are gaps in the siding that will allow insects in (nothing biting when we were there, but ants, earwigs, etc found their way inside). It gets quite rattly in the wind (did not bother us - we slept like babies). We loved the place, and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Rupert was excellent in communicating with us. He ensured everything was in order for our arrival. There are a lovely couple who live next door who are there to help in any situation. A great experience! Only a 10 min drive to Margaret River, wineries around the area, and beaches nearby.

We are a British/Aussie family, who have lived in Western Australia for the last 3 years. Willowood Barn is our holiday house. Our 4 kids love it - particularly their bedroom, the indoor games and outdoor fun.
