About this listing
Within a 1.2 mile radius our cheerful poppy-themed apartment (The Poppy place) has a Cinetopia, restaurants, stores and public transport (most are within a 10 minute walk). It's 7 miles from the Portland airport, 6 miles from great bird-viewing, 10 miles from the Columbia River Gorge with its fabulous hikes. Through the gate you have access to a relaxing garden with a pond and secret sitting nooks. It's a great romantic getaway or business stay.
Our poppy-themed apartment (which is partitioned off from the main house so you are likely to hear signs of life) has its own private entrance which means you can check in 24/7 without disturbing us. It leads into a sitting room, a bedroom and twin-sink full bathroom. It is convenient to the airport, shops a movie house and public transport, colorful and cheerful. There is one private use closet but there is plenty of hanging space and a place to put your luggage. You'll find teas and coffee, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, condiments and a few goodies for your convenience. Free wi-if and parking outside your apartment door if you have a compact to midsize car. Anything bigger please let us know and we'll be able to arrange alternative parking for you. Enjoy our large garden through the gate.
Our street has a school and church so the road can get noisy which could be a problem if you like sleeping with your windows open. We provide a white noise machine to reduce noice. There is also a substantial arborvider and we have installed blinds, heavy lined curtains which also block out light. Expect some extra noise on Friday mornings - it's garbage collection day.
Enjoy our little half acre urban farm just through the gate from your apartment, with it's fruit trees and raised veggie garden beds. Please feel free to laze on hidden benches and smell the roses. Enjoy our little womb-like cob nook overlooking our fishpond. Please note our little spider friends love to take up residence in the nook and they're pretty fast workers, so in case they've been busy since I was last there, you'll find a small feather duster there but please try not to hurt them when you're removing them. Watch the birds and squirrels. Please don't disturb anyone staying in our camper or Cob Cottage (when they are occupied).
Interaction with guests
How often I interact with my guests depends on them and their needs. I always like to meet and greet guests when I can to show you around the garden and help you orientate yourself to what's in the area. I work from the property and keep office hours from mon- fri 8am to 5pm during which time I prefer not to be disturbed if possible. However, guests are always welcome to text or call me and will sometimes have them over for a cuppa or glass of wine if our mutual schedules and desires allow.
Other things to note
In your bedroom you'll find shelves with beautiful hand-crafted pottery bowls - you'll also see various pieces in galleries in the area. Each 'Corby' is made with tender loving care in our pottery studio on the property. You'll also often find us playing with clay in our studio, and you're welcome to pop your head in and visit.
Please no smoking whatsoever anywhere on the property. You're welcome to have guests visit so long as they have left by 10.30pm. Please note that our fishpond is not childproof so not only do we not host children or infants but we require that you do not have any visiting children. Please be really sure to securely close all gates into our garden and please do not go through the gates to our neighbors. Our patio in front of the main house is private as is the garage/shop at the bottom of the garden and please don't use the firepit without first checking with us as we are very careful about fires. We love to share our produce, but please don't pick fruits or vegetables or take eggs without checking in with us. We share our urban farm produce with neighbors and sometimes special projects are planned around what's growing.
