Each room has two queen beds, a deck with volcano view, private bathroom, fans, coffee maker and room safe.

The space

The Arenal Observatory Lodge crowns a ridge overlooking Arenal Lake and the looming volcano only 1.7 miles away, all within the refreshing ambiance of a working 870 acres farm that includes 400 acres in reforestation and 270 acres of natural forest, all surrounded by the tropical splendor of the Arenal National Park. Arenal Lake is the largest in Costa Rica and offers excellent sport fishing.
The lodge actually grew out of several extremely humble buildings originally built for housing scientists and researchers from the Smithsonian Institute and Earthwatch.

The Arenal Observatory Lodge is the best place to experience the thrill and beauty of the Arenal volcano because of its location, its long history as a research center and the knowledge and the experience of its staff and guides.

I cannot recommend the Observatory Lodge enough - waking up to the stunning views in the morning enough however, it offers plenty more with the activities & local hikes available on site. It is also a great place to watch birds and wildlife. One of my favourite places so far!

Beautiful place and beautiful volcano. Some nice walks in nature and easy access to zip-lines.

Location was fantastic with great volcano views. Accommodation is nothing fancy but adequate for what you need and the restaurant was better than expected.

We stayed here for two and a half days and absolutely loved our time there. The lodge was sooo much better than we expected. We were coming from an all-inclusive beach resort and thought that there was no way that the lodge could compare to where we had stayed. But we loved it so much—almost more than the resort. The included breakfast was really wonderful, very filling and lots of variety. I loved sitting and eating with a view of the volcano. I was so happy on the day that it was clear enough to see the top. Note: the volcano hasn't been active since 2011. You won't see it erupt or spark (despite what the pictures show), but you may see steam come from the top. Or you might not see the top at all! It can be very cloudy. We stayed in room 33 which was the perfect distance from everything. Every morning we would wake up to a gorgeous view of the volcano and wildlife. A coati walked right up to our door. The bathrooms are great, and the shower had awesome water pressure and was a giant walk-in with a bench. There is no air conditioning, but don't worry because there's a great fan and the rainforest stays fairly cool, especially at night. The beds are really hard, and the bedding is kind of 80's like (think classic hotel comforters), but we slept just fine. One morning, we woke up naturally around 6:30 am to rainfall and the volcano. I couldn't think of a more relaxing way to start the day. The sunsets are amazing as well. It gets dark around 6 pm every night in Costa Rica, so don't stay out too late on the trails (although most of them are lit). Definitely take advantage of the hot tub and pool—they'll rent you towels too. The trails are kept so well and there's plenty of places to walk and explore. All the different vegetation is marked by signs with the names and Latin classifications. The staff is also very helpful, and they will work together with you to book trips and expeditions. They organized a trip for us to the Springs Resort and Spa to enjoy hot springs, tubing, and the wildlife reserve. This is by far the best place to stay in Arenal, and I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Arenal Observatory Lodge is a MUST SEE if you are traveling in Costa Rica. The grounds are immaculate, the restaurant and happy hour is great, and the views just outside the bedroom windows are extraordinary.

We loved staying at the Observatory. Incredibly scenic, lots of animals, birds, and other wildlife all over the place. Excellent trails / hikes including hanging bridges and waterfalls. Our family really enjoyed our stay!

For over 9 years I ve been working on the tourism industry and the last year I am part of the Customer Service Staff of Arenal Observatory Lodge, an amazing natural spot at the foot of the Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica.
This time working here is a grateful experience to share and go beyond expectations for our guests.

I will be more than happy to be your hostess in Arenal Observatory Lodge.

My best from Costa Rica
