Welcome to Casa de Arte, a newly restored colonial located between San Sebastian and La Ermita – historical barrios in centro Mérida. The home was renovated around the owners’ diverse collection of art and reflects their contemporary aesthetic.

The space

Urban chic meets colonial Mexico at Casa de Arte. The high ceilings, restored pasta tile floors and multiple skylights create a loft-like ambiance where one room flows into the next, all on one level. The well-appointed kitchen is made for cooking, and the live-edge dining table seats 6 comfortably. Open the wide terrace doors and invite the garden in, which is as beautiful at night as it is during the day.

The lush and colourful outdoor living space is almost as large as the house, with a separate dining table for 6, a breakfast corner, large pool, comfy outdoor seating, and sunken poolside chaises to catch the sun, the moon or the stars.

Guest access

Both bedrooms have queen beds, air conditioning, and ensuite bathrooms. Quiet and efficient ceiling fans can be found in every room. The owners love to cook, maintaining a kitchen that is appointed with quality knives, pots and pans, and a few basic condiments. The home has a SMART TV with access to Netflix, the library is stocked with books, and the SONOS sound system gives you access to an amazing library of music. Simply download the free SONOS App to your smartphone, log on to the internet and access the music!

A truely beautiful home with a lucious garden and pool area which we spent most of our time in. I would stay here again in a second! A very comfortable home with ample space, modern amenities and beautiful art to inspire the imagination. Alison is truely a "super host " and stayed in touch with us during our week long stay. Traveling with my 82 year old mom presented some challenges and Alison was kind, flexible and gracious.

Response from Alison:
We're happy you enjoyed our little Oasis here in Mérida! Although we love our humble neighbourhood that we affectionately call SoZo (South of the Zocalo) we too enjoy escaping to our pool and garden! Your mom is an inspiration...I wished I could see more of her work! If you return to Mérida, let's do spend some time together :)

If you are fortunate enough to stay at Casa de Arte you will not be disappointed. The house was spectacular the back yard was an Oasis. Who could ask for anything more? Leaving the house and yard for a day trip was extremely hard to do! Alison kept in touch through our stay, and even made a recommendation mid week of a floral show close by that may have been of an interest. A wonderful host!

Response from Alison:
It was such a pleasure to have you all - thanks for choosing to stay with us and being such considerate guests! We could have done with a visit from the rain god CHAAC during your stay, but hopefully the pool was a nice refresher! We welcome you back to Merida anytime :)

Casa de Arte was perfect! The home was well equipped and absolutely gorgeous. We spent a lot of time admiring the art throughout the house and enjoying the space. Alison was a wonderful host who was always available to provide suggestions and advice when needed. It was our first time in Merida and we will certainly return and stay in the property again!

This was a absolute delight........The house and garden were so beautiful....The art in this very large beautiful home was amazing ....found myself just walking around discovering art everywhere....folk to very contemporary modern ....Ric is a contemporary artist and we were able to see his fabulous work in a very upscale restaurant ........what fun ....the garden was so beautifully (URL HIDDEN) too became an exploration for me ...complete with so many birds .....House is well equipped .....Beds were (URL HIDDEN) hair dryer....kinda freaked for a second...and then said ....I'm in the Yucatan...adjust....The shower made up for my temporary loss of the hair dryer..... The house felt very safe...high walls and locks but felt they were not really needed .....we walked at night and never felt like we had to watch our backs ....Their neighborhood was peaceful....Merida as a whole seemed safe..... Alison had detail notes on where to go and where to eat ....and made her self available for any questions ....She was there to show us around the house when we arrived and was there with Ric to see us on our way.......Very well done ....I would go back in a heart beat .....I give them 10 STARS and many thanks........

This casa is beautiful and had everything we needed. We felt so comfortable and pampered by the amount of room we had, the amazing kitchen, the pool and gorgeous gardens, and the beautiful artwork. The restaurants and attractions around the main square were just a short and inexpensive cab-ride, or even easier, Uber ride away, and the surrounding neighborhood felt safe, quiet, and residential.

As an artist and writer respectively, my husband Ric and I are so inspired by Mérida and the Yucatan. We hope you fall in love with the culture as much as we have. We moved here from Canada in 2013 and enjoy travelling around the Yucatan and other parts of Mexico. We have a casita in Manzanillo we love to spend time at but Merida is home. Mérida is both a small town and a big city, constantly surprising us with its vibrant cultural personality—from food truck festivals to hip restaurants, symphony to samba dancing, museums to mescalerias. A walk to the square for ice cream can easily turn into an impromptu night of salsa and salbutes. Whether you stay in town or escape to the surrounding beaches, haciendas, mayan ruins and cenotes— we hope to be a great part of your experience.
