A spacious, open plan, self-contained, self-catering studio apartment in a beautiful church conversion, in a quiet semi-rural setting just 8 miles south of the World Heritage city of Bath. It's a perfect romantic getaway for a couple, or a relaxing space for up to four good friends/family. A unique and peaceful place to stay, and a great base for exploring the beautiful Somerset countryside and the South West.

The space

The Studio is in one half of a Grade II listed former Victorian church, artfully transformed into a large and modern, open plan apartment which sleeps 2-4 people. It's quiet and spacious, a perfect space to relax, with everything you need for a comfortable weekend or longer stay.

Even though the building is almost 170 years old, the conversion gives it a light and airy, modern feel whilst retaining some features of the original church. The space was for many years used as a photographic studio where the owners worked together to create images for magazine features, books and advertising.

There's a comfortable king sized bed, plus a double futon which can sleep up to two extra guests, but please note that these are both in the same space so you need to know each other well! You also have your own separate shower room. The lounge area has a Smart tv/dvd player/Netflix/Freeview, free wi-fi, plus a selection of books, DVDs, games and local maps. The kitchen is very well-equipped, with a fridge, freezer, dishwasher, double oven and microwave, and a comfortable dining area. We will welcome you with some basic provisions, including butter, eggs, milk, fruit juice and freshly made bread, cake or cookies.

Underfloor heating will keep your toes warm, and there's a fan heater too. For more chilly days the woodburner stove makes the apartment extra cosy.

We're in a peaceful, semi-rural location just 8 miles south of the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath, and it's a great base for exploring the area.

A visit to the Bath Christmas Market is not to be missed (24 November - 11 December) and after a busy day's festive shopping the studio is a peaceful haven to come home to!

There's a useful information pack in the studio with helpful tips on things to do in the area, including a list of local shops, farm shops and markets, plus details of restaurants and good food pubs if you prefer to eat out.

Guest access

The studio is a completely self-contained, ground floor space with main access to your own front door from the driveway where you can park easily, so you can come and go as you please. The back door leads onto a quiet, sunny patio with your own small private garden.

Interaction with guests

We will welcome you on arrival, then it's up to you - we can leave you to your own devices but we're happy to help or advise if needed.

Other things to note

We have two cats and a dog who live in the adjoining building, but they are excluded from the studio apartment at all times, and quite shy of strangers.

We spent such a lovely 4 nights at Christine and Don's place! The photos look lovely but do not do it justice! There is a beautiful garden spot round the back, the fire burner is gorgeous and the whole space has such a light and lovely feel to it. Christine was so lovely, setting us off on the direction of a woodland walk and letting us back in when I'd left the keys behind! Also baking us some amazing vegan muffins on arrival! Both Don and Christine are lovely, thank you! We hope to be back!

My husband and I have enjoyed a fantastic 3 night stay here and can't recommend it highly enough. Christine was there to welcome us and provided us with some basic provisions such as milk and eggs etc in addition to some delicious home baked goods! We found the location perfect to explore Bath and we attended the Bristol balloon fiesta from here- a car is definitely a necessity though for getting about. Kitchen is very well equipped. Lots of info on what's around locally. The bed was super comfy and we enjoyed the wood burner in the evening! Hope to return one day. Thanks again Christine!

We had a great time in Christine's place. We were welcomed with a warm greeting and warm scones. The studio is a very spacious and interesting converted church with everything you could possibly need, provided to a very high standard. It is in a very quiet area but within an easy drive of Bath, and we also visited Frome, Wells and Bradford on Avon. Thank you Christine for a great stay.

I've spent my career writing about food and styling food for photography, so food - or rather, eating - is one of my main interests in life, along with art, music and animals. My husband Don is an artist and photographer, who for many years used the studio as his workplace, and we produced many food books and magazine features there. We have lived and worked here for over 25 years but are both now pretty much retired, enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle.

We're now in our second year of hosting with Airbnb, and we love it. We've welcomed singles, couples, groups of friends and families, and we've been the venue for a marriage proposal, a honeymoon, many romantic weekends and quite a few birthday treats.

Guests have visited from all over the world, including New Zealand, America, China, many parts of Europe, and of course from all over the UK.
We have been very fortunate, and it has been a pleasure to host such diverse and interesting, friendly people. Onwards and upwards!
