About this listing
Stow Cottage is a newly-renovated, former fisherman's home. Sited in a quiet alley of beautiful and unspoilt Kingsand, this home forms a blissful base for a sea-focused holiday. With two double bedrooms plus a single bed and lilos, Stow Cottage is ideal for a young family, a couple holidaying with a parent, or visiting Cornwall with a friend. There is a large, newly-fitted kitchen/dining room on the ground floor, plus a bath + shower-room; upstairs, the living room is very large and comfortable with an easily-managed log-stove, while both bedrooms are also on the first floor . The mezzanine attic room with single bed approached by a step-ladder, does not form part of the general airb&b offer and is for storage only. It can be visited by good climbers but entirely at their own risk. Generally, the cottage is not ideal for those with mobility difficulties, although there is a hand-rope to help visitors climb the stairs to bed!
This cottage is perfect for people who love to spend time outdoors and who run back in in wet costumes with sandy feet, Of course, it has all the usual kitchen conveniences: oven with hob and extractor, dishwasher, washer-drier, airing racks, microwave, TV and DVD player, land-line for incoming calls and Wifi, radiators + underfloor heating and lots of hot water. A few guests may enjoy having limited or no mobile phone connectivity in the cottage - but you can catch up by the sea which is only 2 minutes away down the twisting walking lane.
The SW coastal footpath runs past the Stow Cottage passageway, and really beautiful walks are accessible around the Cornish Rame Peninsula. Pubs abound in the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, while the excellent village stores keep late hours. Dogs are not allowed on some of the beaches in the holiday season and I do not allow those who take pets with them, or who smoke, to rent the cottage.
Do be warned that the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map and street names is not entirely accurate. Enter the village using GPS with postcode PL10 1NE - but be aware that satellite signals fail in areas approaching the sea. Take sign for Kingsand village. Drive down Fore Street, then take a narrow rising lane to the left. Bring in your wing mirrors and proceed slowly. Turn right at a tight corner and go down the slope in in front of the Rising Sun pub. Here, you are able to park for 10 minutes to off- or up-load the car but there are only 4 free parking places in front of the pub. Walk down the steepish hill and turn right in 50m up an alley just before the pink cottage on the right: Rose cottage! Stow cottage forms the back half of this house and is painted white. Although for unloading/loading you can drive close to the cottage(but not beyond the walking alley) parking is free on the edge of Kingsand village, on Jackman's Meadow, or, can be paid for on a daily or weekly basis in the centre of the village.
The Rame peninsula is just over the Devon county boundary, but arriving in Cornwall by ferry from Plymouth makes this little-known part of East Cornwall seem a quite separate country, with a great deal to explore and enjoy. Several National Trust houses with splendid gardens are in easy striking distance, and the Eden Project is only 45 mins away by car. Public transport (2 bus companies operate) can take you to the beautiful surfing beach of Whitsand Bay, or on to Plymouth over the Torpoint ferry, and views from the top of the double decker bus are spectacular.
This is a tremendous holiday spot.
Please remove outdoor shoes on entry and leave on mats! This is a beautifully restored home with a polished and waxed stone-tiled floor on the ground floor (under-floor heating). There are new, painted wood kitchen cupboards and expensive benching which is also new and unstained. Upstairs there is a leather suite which must be treated with care, please, e.g. no wine or food spills, nappy changing, etc! All paintwork and fittings are new and guests are asked to respect the high condition of the interior fittings and furnishings in this cottage. I am sure you will!

I am a cheerful retiree from teaching Biology to A level and live alone on my newish small-holding, having 3 busy sons scattered about England. With 11 sheep (6 lambs!) and a few hens, I spend some early hours looking after their needs and part of the remainder managing my Cornish apple orchard and pootling about. Sometimes, I have work-placement agricultural students here from the nearby Duchy College. I love sea swimming, sailing and good company and - only relatively lately down from London - am learning more about East Cornwall every day.
