the house is very close to Kyoto Station about 8 minutes walk to pick up the key and another few minutes walk to the house. There were 3 of us and the house fits us well. Very clean and you will have everything you need!

Loved the traditional machiya townhouse feel. The place is spacious and clean. The mini zen rock garden was a nice touch. Took a few moments to appreciate it. Wifi is super-fast. Prepare to sleep on a cot on the floor. It's a quiet neighborhood. Enjoyed the peacefulness. Thank you for the step by step instructions on how to get to the Ebisu. Host provided clean towels to dry us off from the rain. We shopped at the nearby Aeon Mall while our machiya was being cleaned. Host Yifen was very helpful during the booking process, even made dinner reservations upon our request. Girl at reception called for a cab for us to dinner. Greatly appreciated. Highly recommend booking here for authentic Japanese experience. Worth every penny.

We love the place! It's very clean and it has everything we need. The futon is so comfortable that we miss it now. The place is spacious for 2 persons. It is tastefully decorated and equipped. The location is strategic and yet set within a quiet neighbourhood. We would definitely stay here again. Maria is very helpful in showing us the place and providing us with the information we need. We love it!

The villa service host provided great service. He was able to answer our questions, and he helped guide us to our villa. He showed us around the home and how to use everything. The other service host when we were leaving helped us storage our luggage and help make calls to restaurants. The villa itself is very clean and comfortable. Plenty of bedding, and the villa even has detergent to wash your clothes. The private garden was a nice touch. The 3 bedroom/living rooms were well heated and ventilated. Location, location, location. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, but only 5-10 minutes walk to the Kyoto station. The neighborhood felt like a small town yet close to everything you would need. The Kyoto station is humongous with everything to eat/buy, and the food were delicious. If I come back to Kyoto, I would definitely like to stay here again.

My name is Yifen. I have lived in Kyoto for a year and am now helping Mr and Ms Shimamoto welcome you in one of their two lovely Japanese traditional townhouses near Kyoto Station.

The two houses have been completely renovated this summer (August 2015), and Ms Shimamoto has carefully re-done the decoration, selecting some beautiful art and objects from the region. As in all traditional Japanese households, she will be changing them according to the seasons.

Mr Shimamoto is retired and has a passion for Japanese gardens. The two zen patios behind the houses are his own creations.

While there is no doubt you will enjoy your stay at Ume and Take machiyas, I will hopefully be able to add to this experience by giving you some of the best advice on sightseeing, eating out, shopping in Kyoto as well as answer any questions you might have about Kyoto!
