The space offers lots of birds as it backs up to a green belt. There is only once neighbor so it offers lots of privacy. There is also a nice roof top view for sunset. (The roof top is not offered only for sunset.)

The location is close to everything in town and the Santa Fe river is about 100 yards away. It runs about half the time and especially in spring and early summer. There are several wooded parks to walk to for a picnic or a quick ride into town. The plaza is very close to here.

The space

The lighting and gardens here is totally out of this world. There are 30 solar lights that turn themselves on automatically every night. Lots of 0 gravity chairs to relax in plus an observatory area on top of the roof. The place resembles Bali meets Meow Wolf in many ways. I tease my friends and tell them that they got the idea from me.
Having traveled the world staying in hostels I was charmed by how easy going and sociable hostels are. The pictures show the color, and gardens well.

NEWLY REMODELED Check out the new pictures just posted May 25, 2017. There are 2 main rooms One has a queen bed and faces west so you have a great view of the sun coming through 2 windows. (Yes there is A/C.) The other bedroom has two double beds which are cozy.

The kitchen is perfect for cooking small meals and heating up soups. The outside is set up as an outside dining room with ice maker, blender and great seating area with cushy sofas. The evening mood lighting is very private and perfect for a honey moon get away. The river and plaza are very close by. Everything you need from shopping, restaurants, and nature is close by. there is even a park for picnics right on the river and it is running this time of year.

If you need to have another common area outside (living room) there is a
funky outside room called the Genie bottle which has a kiva fireplace and couches with a fire mans pole in the middle of the room. It is a nice location to relax and have refreshments.

The hot tub is seasonal although on most of the time. Please specify that you would like to use the hot tub prior to arrival. Some people book here because of the hot tub. That is good to know in advance.
The roof top deck is open for sunset. Please observe the one rule about day time use only.

The Bali Garden de light is assessed through the front yard and around through the right and rear. There are no stairs or obstruction for roller suit cases however I always say "less is more" when traveling.

You will pass water fountains and fruit trees on the way back plus the rose garden with has somewhat grown on up to the roof.

I have a listing of all of the best hiking trails in the area. The Santa Fe River bike path is 5 minutes from the house by foot. It is a lovely place to take a little time out and reflect near water.

I am happy to show guests how to turn on the propane fire pit.

This is central to all of Santa Fe. The bike path is next door and the Plaza is about 2.5 miles to the east. 14 minute bike ride there and less than 10 minute bike ride (down hill) back to the casita.

THE LOCATION ALWAYS GETS A 5 STAR REVIEW FROM EVERYONE THAT HAS BEEN HERE. The river walk is also a great sort of mini hike for people.

There is public transportation at the top of the hill. Take #1 bus to get down town. This is a super safe neighborhood so you will feel safe at all times.

Most every attraction except the ski basin is within a 10 minute drive from this location.

The ski basin is about 25 minutes up the hill. Getting to the bottom of the hill from this location takes all of 6.5 minutes.

Meow wolf is about a 6 minute drive to the south west from the house.

I supply coffee and a french press and there is a portable ice machine that has ready ice in 6 minutes. If you need cream/sugar please let me know in advance. I am happy to show you all of the lighting if you like and ask. Some people simply have other interests and sometimes are not really interested.

Please note: I have a strict cancellation policy.

Please look at the pictures before booking. The place looks exactly like the new pictures posted May 2017.

I also request that you call an hour before arrival so I can tend to any last minute details and run over my check list so that you will get the most out of your stay. I am ok with late arrivals however please stay on schedule.
(Arriving later than say 30 minutes from your eta tends to fill my evening wondering if you are coming or not)
I have found that the clients that appreciate this place the most are usually from the bay area and Colorado and tend to be younger in age AND it is green friendly. Please respect my neighbors by keeping your voices to a minimum around the property. Parties must be quiet in nature. The lights are lovely at night. This place is one of a kind and the decor is not for everyone. Those that get it totally get it. There are many artifacts from all over the world through out the property.

This is not a hotel in regards to being super clean. I have a professional cleaning staff and they miss things at times. I am happy to fix or change something is off if you tell me right away. I hope we can have that agreement.
If you like Meow Wolf you will totally love love love this place.

Guest access

Access to this unit passes a nice water feature and the front yard which lights up at night. There is also access to the Genie Bottle room with is a nice cozy hand built sort of room in the front yard for relaxing if it gets a bit chilly in the evening. There is also access to the roof deck which is open for sunset and durning the day light hours.

The apartment is tucked around in the right and back side of the house where there is a green belt and lots of birds. Only on neighbor which leaves lots of privacy for guests choosing this place.

I give my guests lots of privacy however happy to socialize if there is an interest.

Interaction with guests

I am available during guests visit however tend to let guests do their own activities. During the warmer weather there is plenty of space in the out buildings for up to 4 people to feel together yet have some private space.

Other things to note

There is an apartment to the front of the house.
It is a larger version of Bali Garden de light and called Mystic Traveler. Both can be rented together for up to 8 possibly 10 people.

I am not really intentionally trying to attract the loud party party crowd here due to my one neighbor to the west. If you need to have a loud and sort of crazy party this may not be your place because it is close to town there are more people living in the surrounding area. I like to keep my neighbors friendly towards me. so.... loud screaming and carrying on is not really appropriate here. Having a great party time is fine as long as it is mature and compatible with others who live in the area.

The hot tub is an extra benefit when staying here. It is usually on and at 104.

It may be down to change the water on occasion around once a week or so.
Showers before entering are mandatory cuz cleanliness is always a good habit for the next person that might want to use the tub.

Please be respectful of your voice volume during warm months when the neighbors windows are open. Extra credit for refraining from loud laughter and arguing. This is a residential neighborhood closer to town than many listings.
The hot tub is open on a first come first in . Please be reasonable with your hot tub time. An hour to 90 minutes per night seems reasonable.

You must also acknowledge
Pet(s) live on property - there is a house mascot that people adore however does not go into the rear apartment.

It was great to meet David and stay in his colourful home. His communication with us throughout our stay was excellent and we were very grateful for his suggestions about places to visit in Santa Fe. Meow Wolf was definitely a highlight. We enjoyed an evening chat in the garden of lights over a glass of wine and he also very kindly dropped us to our departure point which was super helpful as we were travelling on foot. His home is definitely something out of the ordinary so if you enjoy experiencing something a little different this might be the place for you! Thanks again David!

I am delighted that you came go visit . The best part of the journey is that there are always people to support your travels. I hope to see you again in the world of travel. You are both so welcome and thanks again for coming here to Santa Fe and specifically to my palace of light. ( hope that sounds ok) Kindred spirited people are few and far between. You both added a glow to my place. Thanks again for choosing me. Stop by any time. David

David was a good communicator and getting into his place was smooth. The property is eclectic and cool, but we couldn't recommend it for anyone with kids or pets because there were a lot of obstacles to get to the entrance of the room including several workshop areas, uneven steps and flagstones, power cords, etc. The accommodations we're very clean inside but pretty tight quarters for 4 adults. The only real hangout spots are outside (but there are several distinct areas that are cool if the weather is good). I think if you're going to be out and about for most of the time, David's spot is a good place to come back to for the evening, but it's not ideal if you want to hang out for the day or do any kind of meal prep.

Response from David:
Thank you for your review. Yes, this is an eclectic and unusual place. I have to say that kids over 8 have always loved this place because of the interesting lighting that is similar to Meow Wolf in some ways and I admit that this place attracts more adult couples. The other larger location called Camp David attracts more families for a week than where you stayed. It is not really designed as a kind of hotel type of environment and those that like creativity totally get and appreciate the vibe here especially at night when the lights and fire pits are on. Honestly there are no steps involved to get to the place except one half step in the front of the property next to the pond and no visible workshop areas with power tools etc. as you mention. There is only a enclosed patio with a table and stereo that was once a work shop and now shifting more into part of the genie bottle room with a soft chair and table to put food on. I have replaced one flagstone that was roundish on the bottom. All of the rest look even and are totally solid to walk on. I think that the fruit on the peach tree and growth on other trees makes more of an enclosed feel when walking to the location and I will prune more of that when the peaches ripen. I like the idea of making less grow to look like more. I work hard at making the place look more expansive. Room to move... I would say that with your two dogs (only one listed in your reservation) and crates, and 3 other people, it probably would be sort of cramped. I decided to take two of the chairs out of the 2nd bedroom to make more space. great idea. It is likely that I will not allow any more pets until busy season is finished for a number of reasons. The best and most private hang out spot is up the new staircase to the roof deck. Unfortunately due to your dogs running around unattended I had to close it off the 2nd night, so you did not get the full value of the best lounging space. There are 2 raccoons that like lounging up there and they don't resonate with dogs very well. Yes, there are several spots to relax, one enclosed with a door and kiva fire pit. That serves well for a living room until much colder weather sets in. The house has been stuccoed, and landscaped in the last year with a new staircase to the roof deck. Pictures are worth 1000 words and I feel they are quite accurate in this case. I work super hard at making it better all of the time. The cost here is about the same as the youth hostel with 4 people except that there is much more privacy and much closer to town and the Santa Fe river is 100 yards away if you like to hike in nature. I always greet all of my on time guests and give them a personal tour. Due to your later than planned arrival it was unfortunate that you did not get to discover all of the great places here on the property. It is listed that the kitchen is somewhat basic. Perfect for making light meals. There is also a printed sheet with all of the restaurants within walking distance. Many people like to explore Santa Fe, eat out and come back to relax by the fire. Down town, and natural food grocery store is within walking distance. That helps in a big way. Believe it or now this is also listed as "Great place with birds and hot tub" and has a solid 5 star set of reviews. I will probably shift the name to that as it was a trial a bit ago and seems to resonate much better now. Thanks for your nice ideas and I am on to making more refinements this week.

David was a great host, and the space he has built is very vibrant and fun. The inside is small, but equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, ice maker, and TV with Roku. The outside area is a shared space with 1 other unit, and has lots of seating, and a hot tub. The rooftop is amazing for watching the sun set!

David is super responsive and a wonderful host. His space was quirky and fun. There is only 2-bedrooms, a bathroom & kitchenette. The living space is outside & spending time there on a summer evening would be magically.

Response from David:
Thanks for the great review. Once the weather gets a bit warmer the outside Genie bottle room and the roof top lounge is much more usable because of the warmer weather. Thanks again for coming here.

I have lived in Santa Fe for 19 years and know my way around town and many of the areas in Northern New Mexico. I have a great circle of friends which visitors might enjoy as they visit Santa fe.

I have performed percussion and timpani with the Albuquerque opera and many of the music groups in town as well as the New Mexico Symphony, Santa Fe Symphony, and Pro Musica.
I enjoy spending time with notable movie producers and sound people who work in the music and film business. I love traveling to Bali to listen to Balinese gamelan. I have toured with Sekar Jaya in the west coast. I find Balinese music to be fast paced and very exciting.

I am often up for a fun dinner party on Friday nights at a friends home or here at my place if I do not have a booking.

My travels include Asia, India, and Burning man. Some of the production people live near me. Ekart Tolle is one of my favorites.

The world is changing and it seems important to grow food and follow some parts of the current world events however I seldom watch commercial television. I enjoy watching nature programs with my dog especially the ones about wolves.

5 things
1. Music in Santa Fe
2. Culture and friends in my life
3. I love building things and creating unique sculptures with light and found objects.
4. Great people who are visitors from other places
5. Dinners with friends
