The 250-year-old foundation walls of a former stable form the basis of our approximately 45-square-meter guest house. Recently renovated, it combines the latest technology and comfort with the charm of the half-timbered house and history.

The space

Warm hospitality, comfort and charm, over 250 years of history - these are the ingredients that will make your stay with us in Unterkessach an unforgettable experience.

The listed property of the former guesthouse "Zum goldenen Ochsen" consists of a main house from 1762, attached to it a barn as well as a separate guest house, whose foundation walls are much older and were originally used as pig and chicken stall. The ensemble is one of the most beautiful and largest properties, not only in the village but also in the wider surroundings. The park-like garden offers a variety of retreats and is surrounded by a wall that creates a distance without restricting. In the farm garden you can find places for breakfast outdoors between flowers and books. After a varied day, relax by the fireplace or by the fireplace.

Situated in the idyllic valley of the Kessach, Unterkessach is a small, dreamy village, which has always been a border region and could thus receive much of its original character. On a regional basis, in the competition "Our village should become more beautiful", it now offers a quality of life that is so rarely found. Its location is secluded but nevertheless central: Stuttgart, Würzburg, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Frankfurt and Nuremberg are all within an hour by car to reach.

With the baroque building of the Würzburg residence and the border installations at the Obergermanisch-Raetischen Limes, there are two UNESCO World Heritage sites in the immediate vicinity.

For a short weekend or for two weeks, by car / classic car or by bike - various sights and museums, cities and villages, leisure and sporting facilities in the surroundings offer various opportunities to explore the "Swabian Provence". The Burgfestspiele Jagsthausen, the Hohenloher Kultursommer as well as other organizers of open-air concerts and theatrical performances make the hearts of the culturally interested in the summer beat faster. And gourmets will find numerous interesting producers of regional specialties in addition to numerous good restaurants and winegrowers.

You will stay in the guest house and can use the outdoor facilities as well as the sauna and fitness area after arrangement. Your vehicle or bicycles can be parked in the courtyard. In the farm shop you will find regional specialties and the small village museum with smithy gives you an insight into the history of Unterkessach.

My husband and I stayed two months from early March to early May and had a great time. The cycling is excellent and spring is a gorgeous time to be in the countryside. The flat is perfectly spacious for two people, with a cosy wood stove downstairs that can heat the whole place on cool days (though there is also central heating, which we did not use). Be aware the 'town' is very small, so you'll need to cycle or drive for groceries. The kitchen is also tiny, so no complicated meals! That said, we were fine for the two months with the microwave and stove-top meals. Dirk is a great host, always solicitous and even emailing us on cold days to check we were ok! I'd enjoy staying again if circumstances allowed.
