Where you’ll be

Walberswick, Suffolk, United Kingdom

This is the most wonderful traditional quiet seaside village with everything you ever need minutes away.

The Tuck Shop is three minutes which has everything you need from washing powder to ice creams.

The village green hosts a number of shops and a cafe serving delicious lunch and teas. If you walk 5 minutes from the cottage, you reach the river which can be crossed by traditional hand rowed ferry and then a lovely walk to the quaint town of Southwold. Or take the Kissing Bridge to cross over further down the river.

There are some fantastic walks to Dunwich, Blytheburgh , across marshes filled with stunning birds. It's an bird watching and hiking paradise.

Walberswick is famous for its crabbing. The National Crabbing Championships used to be held here until it became too popular. Children of all ages delight in catching crabs using a simple line, weight and some bacon. Of course we put them back after catching. The Shepherd's best haul has been over 100 in one sitting but we have had years of practice.

And at the end of the day, The Anchor pub or The Bell Inn (both within a stones throw) offer hearty organic meals, great Adnams ales and wines or a yummy locally caught fish and chips.

Walberswick has been my holiday destination since i was a child. My father was born there and i have spent every summer enjoying this beautiful seaside village where we hike, crab fish, test the North Sea temperatures and latterly visiting the local gastro pubs.
