The neighbourhood

A short walk and you are in the country lanes of Essex where thatched cottages and cosy pubs abound with character and history. At the same time, with a 5 minute walk you can catch a train and be in Central London within 45 minutes (Liverpool Street), Victoria Line access in 35 minutes (Tottenham Hale) and Cambridge within 35 minutes. The area also has plenty of local attractions - visit Audley End House, a Jacobean pile noted for its weekend activities, or Hatfield Forest, part of the National Trust where you can walk through what is the last of the ancient forest land of England. Deer and wildlife can be found in abundance!

Getting around

Stansted Mountfitchet by the nature of the name is relatively near to Stansted Airport, 2 minutes to the terminal from Stansted Mountfitchet Station by train, though due to the favourable orientation of the flight paths, there is NO airport noise. In general the area around the cottage is extremely peaceful - the road is a cul de sac and there is no traffic noise. The cottage does not have off-street parking facilities, but parking on the road outside is free. For those wishing to travel by bus I will supply bus timetables. Restaurants and pubs are all within walking distance. The nearby market town of Bishops Stortford is the best shopping area locally but Cambridge is an absolute must for shopping outside London; the city has it all!!

Other things to note

I suggest speaking and communicating well beforehand so that I can answer all questions that arise. If you require a quick response please text or email and I will call back. Breakfast supplied for first 2 days.

Mary was wonderful...very welcoming, quick to respond to us before, during and after our visit. She had great advice for us regarding taxis, trains, restaurants and walking routes to town. Bread and milk in the fridge and use of the washer/dryer were much appreciated. This was the perfect introduction and first experience for us to AirBnB

Dear Mary, we loved your house. It was clean, cosy and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for the five of us. The beds were fine. Our stay at your house gave us the opportunity to visit the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. You were quick to answer any questions we had. Thank you very much for your hospitality. Kind regards, Anna, Jos and children.

Mary was a wonderful hostess;very accommodating, and helpful. She has a fabulous cottage, full of quickness, rustic charm and character. Though only two miles from Stansted Airport, it is also placed in the lovely village of Stansted Mountfitchet. As we were flying early the next morning, it was a nice, comfortable place to rest our heads for the night. Indeed, my two friends and I slept comfortably, andwere able to have a hot shower, and visit the local pub for lunch. All-in all, just perfect.

We stayed here with our three children overnight as we were attending a wedding at nearby Quendon Park. It was very convenient for us. The cottage was clean and cosy and we had everything that we needed. Communications were very good beforehand and our host was there to meet us on time and explained everything very well. We would recommend this as a good place to stay.
