Walk to Playa la Ropa and nearby restaurants from this spacious, private bedroom with independent access. Ocotillo Zihuatanejo private room in El Tamarindo at Casa Calamondin family complex includes a fridge and coffeepot with weekly housekeeping and change of bed linens and towels. The room is on the top level of a multi-level walkup property with lovely views of la Ropa area. Guests share a rooftop terrace with hammocks and free WiFi.

The space

The Ocotillo guest room is a spacious, airy, private bedroom with garden access, equipped with queen bed, fan, a/c, table and chairs, bookshelf, coffeepot, and fridge. The bathroom contains a roomy, tiled shower. The space is suitable for 1-2 person occupancy.

The room has plenty of natural light and views over the palms and tropical vegetation of the La Ropa neighborhood. The room is three levels above the main house, so there are a number of stairs to negotiate as you move through the garden from street level. One level below the room is a palapa-thatched terrace with hammocks, table and chairs, free wifi, and splendid views of sunrise and sunset skies.

Guest access

Four separate buildings house independent apartments and rooms in the El Tamarindo at Casa Calamondin family complex that winds up a slope from street level. A pathway and a series of exterior stairways lead up through the garden areas to access each of the upper modules. Cozy comfort and low-key relaxation characterize the home.

Guests can access the rental units via exterior walkways and stairs without having to go through the main residence. Every room and apartment has independent access from the exterior.

For outdoor lounging, guests have shared access to a rooftop palapa-thatched terrace that overlooks the tropical greenery of La Ropa and affords lovely sunrise and sunset views.

Depending on family occupancy and other rental conditions, renters staying at El Tamarindo may be granted access to the front terrace and dipping pool of the main house.

There is free WiFi on both the upper rooftop terrace and the lower terrace of the main house.

Interaction with guests

The administration office is located on the property. I am usually in on weekdays between 10 am and 6 pm (but I often escape the fetters of the clock and take off at unorthodox hours). The house manager, Felisa, checks the house daily, and we are both available by phone and email.

Family is sometimes in residence in the main house, and other guests and family may share the front terrace and dipping pool, so at times we do all hang out together. Generally, though, peaceful relaxation and few human distractions reign within the property.

Other things to note

Free Wifi is available on the shared outdoor terraces and in the main house.

Once-per-week linen and towel changes are included. Your unit will be delivered thoroughly cleaned, and we include an initial supply of drinking water, soap, and toilet tissue for your arrival. Extra drinking water is available for purchase.

We do not have television or public land-line phone service at El Tamarindo.

We do not have public laundry facilities on the property. There are reliable local laundry services available that provide will pick-up and deliver. Ask us.

There's ample street parking in front of the house.

Just as advertised. Really enjoyed the stay. The picture of the common covered porch does not do it justice. It's a great big authentic palapa that gives great shade. hanging out there is great among the hummingbirds, butterflies, birds. Even heard a few chachalacas. The staff is great and helpful. Peaceful and quiet.

I always enjoy my stays at Tamarindo. My room was spotless (as usual), and even an extra table was put in so I could better create a writing desk for my planned three weeks of writing projects while there. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and I enjoy the sound of the ocean, and the views from the terrace and my room...even a glimpse of sea. It's a very well-kept property with nice gardens and a breezy, shared roof terrace with hammocks. For me, a long-time ZIH visitor (16 years!) Tamarindo offers the right balance of value, amenities (fridge, coffee maker, AC, fans, and wifi) and tranquility, with a perfect location just 2 blocks from the best beach, and taxi and bus service right out the front door. I always feel welcome, safe and comfortable there. Other guests are respectful of the quiet and peaceful ambiance, which is also important to me as a single traveler/writer. I shall return!

El Tamarindo is a unique, humble oasis! This is certainly the place for you if you want a peaceful spot to sleep at night, sip coffee in the morning while looking out over the palms and flowers, and an more authentic feel than a hotel or resort. We can't wait to visit again! We enjoyed the lush gardens, the steps were great exercise, the room was very clean and had a lovely view of the valley near the Playa La Ropa bay. We were met with a warm welcome by both Carol and Feliza, the caretaker. We were taken on a nice tour of the property and our room upon arrival, with options of AirCon, fans, or open windows. We also REALLY enjoyed the location of El Tamarindo, between Playa La Ropa and Playa Las Gatas - both walk-able for those wanting to get nice and sweaty before a dive into the turquoise waves. Also a really central place to be located in order to get into central Zihua. El Tamrindo was also housing other friendly guests, giving it a communal feel, but also with a sense of quiet privacy. We stayed for 7 nights, and our sheets were changed once, and room was cleaned twice :) So lovely! Gracias! Hasta proximo!

Thank you, Amy, for your comments and suggestions. We do indeed have a great view even though we don't overlook the beach directly. We appreciate your feedback and hope we see you again.

Welcome to the west coast of Mexico and beautiful Zihuatanejo Bay. Zihuatanejo has been my home since the mid-1990s, although I first fell in love with it while visiting it with my family in 1969 when it was but a tiny and dusty fishing village.

El Tamarindo at Casa Calamondin is a family compound completed in the early 2000s. Much of the family currently lives elsewhere in Mexico and in Canada, leaving the cozy rooms and apartments of this somewhat sprawling tropical home available for rental and sharing -- a perfect AirBNB opportunity.

Zihuatanejo has always held a special place in our hearts, and we have found that it becomes equally special for almost all the friends and visitors who've spent time with us over the years. Maybe it's time for you to discover Zihuatanejo, too!

Interests and passions are books (there is plenty of reading material at the Tamarindo!), gardening (mainly vegetables), enjoying our incredible beaches (and for my husband, surfing), and, of course, travel both within Mexico and abroad. When we can't get out onto the road ourselves, we're happy to listen the stories of world adventure from our guests, especially while sitting out in the rocking chairs on the front terrace of El Tamarindo.
