Hello there...from time to time I rent out the studio part of my live/work space. In your inquiry message, please include the reason for your visit and a little bit about yourself. Also, please read fully the description below before contacting me with questions. Thank you.

My apartment is ideal for anyone with an interest in painting and music, and who might be working from the apartment. It is listed at a great price for the neighborhood, which has amenities equal to any other gentrified part of Brooklyn. I have an expansive record collection that spans jazz to electronic, rock to experimental, which I leave for you to enjoy. Listening to records in the apartment is amazing. My paintings, which I painted in the space, decorate the walls and the space is open and airy. I leave some art supplies out for my guests. I also have a collection of artist monographs and blue-ray DVDs as well, of some of my favorite artist and movies. The main space has a flat screen TV with Netflicks and a DVD player.

My studio is in an old textile building, which has a decaying exterior and interior. I take great care of my apartment, keeping everything clean and fresh, but the stairwell and halls will have an unfinished appearance, with wires showing, neighbors random stuff around, etc. There is nothing I can do to control this and as long as you can walk past it, it should have little bearing on your stay. If it bothers you, don't book a reservation.

Greenpoint has become a destination all its own, with restaurants, coffee shops, and bars everywhere. It's away from the hustle and noise of Manhattan, and has a "secret hideaway" feeling. The view from the apartment is beautiful and there is no traffic noise.

There is one bedroom in the studio with a full sized/double bed, but also a large open area that can accommodate an air mattress or a second bedroom. There is a nice full sized automatic air mattress and extra bedding/linens in the closet. There is an air conditioner in the bedroom.

The apartment is not kid friendly, nor infant friendly. There is no passenger elevator (only a freight which is off limits to guests) and three flights of stairs. Also, the apartment is not childproof or pet proof. The lock box and the light switches are low to the ground, so anyone with bad knees or a bad back should not book this apartment.

Please be discreet and respectful of my neighbors. I want to make sure not to make them feel uncomfortable, so in the very rare chance you happen to engage in any friendly conversation with one of our neighbors while entering or exiting the building, please do not mention that you are staying with me by using AirBnb. It is perfectly ok to say that you are my guests though.

The Studio:

The space was built by art students in the 80's and has an open layout and great view. It has not had a "professional" renovation, and has a casual scrappy quality, as it's used as an active painting studio. Many of the lights are turned on with power strip switches and the heater, while powerful and effective, can be loud. I have lived here for 15 years. This is an actual functioning artist loft space, not a precious vintage showroom. It is very quiet (no street traffic or neighbors above), comfortable and clean. If you have work to do, the apartment is a great place to sit and take care of business. I put together a "Guest Manual" that provides in-depth descriptions of how to make yourself more at home in the space.

The roof is closed for damage and repairs. No one is allowed up on the roof in anymore.

The Neighborhood:

Greenpoint is a safe and convenient neighborhood. It has a variety of restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The closest subway stops are the G train (Greenpoint stop) and the 7 train. You can easily transfer to both the E and the L trains making all parts of the city accessible. In the summer you can take a ferry ride into the city, which docks just a few block away. Williamsburg is 15 minutes away walking or by bus.

New York is an exciting city and the apartment is the perfect antidote to that energy, providing a quiet and spacious retreat. Here you can can cook "real" meals-because its a fully equipped kitchen, watch a movie, listen to music, read, or surf the web.

The Bedroom:

What’s great about the bedroom is that it is very quiet and dark inside. The room has an AC unit so you can rest comfortably in the summer.

My Expectations from a Guest:

Having 2 guests for a small dinner is fine, but no parties (more than 2 guests) or late night activity (past 9:30pm) (even on the weekends) in the apartment out of respect for my neighbors and the thin walls that divide the spaces. If I receive complaints from my neighbors...and they do complain to me, you might be asked to leave early.

No filmmaking or photo shoots of any kind (even small budget) should be taking place in the apartment without my prior knowledge and discussion.

Please don't ask me for my personal information for ESTA applications.

No pets in the apartment because of allergies.
No smoking--and that includes with a window open or in the stairwell.
Dishes must always be cleaned within a few hours of use (or you may get bugs and mice). Also, worktable, stove, and sink must be cleaned after every use.

Kitchen utensils such as cast iron pans and cutting knife must be treated accordingly. Cast iron must be dried immediately and please hang up sharp knifes right away, or they will dull.

I love New York, and enjoy hosting people new to the city. I have lived in Greenpoint Brooklyn since 2001 and have never wanted to move. It is a great neighborhood which now has all kinds of new luxuries (coffee, bars, restaurants). I love trying new (unusual) restaurants, especially in Queens and out of the way areas. I love finding a good place to eat that is affordable, which I see as the real challenge! I enjoy seeing old French movies at the theater and attending live music of the underground and noisy kind. I collect records (with a focus on free and experimental sound) and I play music in a noise rock band every Sunday. I live in New York because it is an art capital, and I enjoy going to galleries in Chelsea, the Lower East Side, Brooklyn, Etc. I especially like going to non-gallery sites to see art, such as Storm King Sculpture Center, or out of the way museums like The Noguchi Museum and The Cloisters. My art practice is to construct textural and gestural abstract paintings that explore the subtle's of mark and process. I re-enact the historic legacy of the AbEx movement as a antidote to the prevalent disembodied experience of viewing today.
