The apartment is equipment with a full kitchen (stove, ice box, dining table) with a bedroom with Full-size bed and walk in closet. There is a full bathroom as well. In the living area there is a day bed where another person could sleep (twin bed).

The space

The location is in a quiet town between the airport and the populations center, with nice hiking and family friendly. Laundry mat is next door.

Guest access

The Apartment is private and you have direct and private access with your key. There are two entrances-one through garage and one through to a flat area where a picnic table can be set up.

Interaction with guests

The Kitalong family is a combination of Local Palauan naturalist (father), Marine Biologist/Botanist (mother, PhD), Natural Product Chemist/Traditional Medicine (myself, PhD), and wife (Law/Politics, PhD) with our two children. We have been working on environmental issues in Palau for more than 25 years and can provide you with almost all information you will need during your stay in Palau. I am usually traveling, but when I am around I will be able to help with needs. There is usually someone around the house, but we are usually working on various research and environmental projects, which means a lot of field work and meetings.

Other things to note

The internet at the house is quite fast (Palau standards) allowing for FaceTime; HOWEVER, it is PALAU where internet is O3B satellite uplink, so weather conditions, etc can cause internet to be down a lot; fiber optic is projected for December 2017, so be forewarned. Books authored by owners: Native Trees of Palau, A Personal Tour of Palau (Volume I and II), Palau Primary Health Care Manual, Ethnobotany of Palau (in press).

To be fair, we are unable to rate Christopher's place since Christopher found us a rental apartment nearby. He provided us a car at the airport so we were not inconvenienced and paid him directly for rental. Christopher met us at 1:30AM to ensure we knew how to find our rental apartment. Can not say enough about his care and commitment to our safety and commitment to find us a home since his became unavailable at short notice due to road construction and repairs needed to his home. The location of his and friend's rental were ideal -- 5 minutes from the airport and easy to tour the island of Airai from there. He provided us with suggestions on tours. We ended up having a private 2 person tour with Jake and Jessie from "7 Wonders" and they took us to the Rock Islands, to see stone money, and were a wealth of knowledge (esp. Jake) geologically and historically etc. Also would recommend the Waterfalls in the north of Airai. Beautiful island !

Though I wasn't able to meet Christopher in person he was able to make arrangements on short notice (he arrived after I had left). His family who were there during my stay and even picked me up from the airport were amazing (Anne & Clarence his parents). I even met a cousin on fishing trip on my last day thank you Clarence for the invite & taking me along had a lot of fun!). The hospitality was always as if I was family myself. Anne was also able to arrange local rental car that I was able to drive all over the big island which I highly recommend! Accomodations were peaceful set near the jungle within local village still close to the road w/ hiking paths & near the channel for a swim or taking in sunrise/sunset (the rock islands are all around you as Anne would remind). The family's history as local conservationists was also an honor to hear their deep roots in Palau making a difference in the environment. Lastly thank you Anne for reminding me to write (my novel another reason for my trip to disconnect harnessing the peacefulness and creative energy which I was well able to do). I can't say enough about my host family along with the people of Palau. Thank you so much for an amazing trip all around! Ke kmal mesaul!

Christopher was very responsive whenever I had questions and his parents were super nice and welcoming. The room is on the main road, so it's easy to get to the place from the airport and the main town. We really enjoyed our stay

I really appreciated that Chris personally picked us up at 5AM in the morning to show us our home for a week. He was also very friendly and easy to communicate with. He even gave us some chocolate souvenir from Hawaii. Thanks so much for the wonderful stay, Chris! On another note, I would like to recommend future guests to rent a car as Airai is not easily accessible from anywhere else. I rented with Toyota for 30USD/day + 10/day for the insurance. While I doubt car crash would ever happen in Palau as there are not much cars and the speed limit is quite low, an additional 10USD wouldn't hurt for your security.

We had a great time in Airai, the apartment was perfect for our needs but most important of all, Clarence & Ann ( Chris Parents ) are very friendly and really special people. We felt like home, it was a perfect stay. Thank you very much ! Sorin&Bogdan

We had an airport pick up so it was easy to get there. Chris wasn't home when we visit Palau, but his family was very nice and helpful. The flat was alright and clean. We had two fans in the room so everything was good. It's better if you rent a car before you arrive, but we also tried hitchhiking and it worked out to get to the City. I would definetly recommended a stay in Airai for about 3 days.

The time we had at the apartment was great. Christopher provided us even more stuff than we expected - thank you Chris for the baby chair, baby bed and car seat for the kid - you made our stay in Palau much more pleasant. We spent 2 weeks at the apartment, Chris couldn't be there the whole time but his lovely parents were there for us with open arms. They are so nice - Chris, you are so lucky to have them around :-) The apartment is very spacious and comfortable. The second day we arrived we called it "our home" and it was our home for the next 2 weeks. Chris, Ann, Clarence - a BIG thank you!! :) You made our dream holiday real. Ke kmal mesaul.
