Forget the burbs after work/lectures and hang with 3 other Airbnb Guests @ Jen’s laid back Troppo Shack in central location near the CBD, Strand and Castle Hill with easy access to JCU, TAFE and Hospital.

The space

4m x 2m bedroom with a single bed.

The house is an Old Queenslander (miner's cottage) relocated from Charters Towers in the late 1800s after the Gold Rush.

Built for the tropics, it has high ceilings, timber floors, natural light and open ventilation. Escape the morning sun on the front verandah, then head to the back outdoor living area in the afternoon for a shady spot with a cool breeze.

Embracing a “Troppo Shack" feel, it's laid back and casual with a positive, fun vibe. The décor echoes raw authenticity with an eclectic mix of Jen's earthy treasures wrapped in a daring splash of colour and creativity.

Shared living spaces are organised and functional. There's plenty of storage in the kitchen with everything you need to prepare a meal. The bathroom is clean and de-cluttered with a storage basket for each guest. Towels stay hygenic and dry in your private room.

To ensure a peaceful, non-intrusive atmosphere, earphones are utilised with electronic devices for television, movies and listening to music. It's not a busy or noisy house.

It's back to basics with un-stuffocation and simplicity where your soul can breathe and you can hear yourself think.

Guest access

Park in the back yard. Access via back door using the keypad code. Get yourself sorted and settled in. Come and go as you please.

Interaction with guests

Jen is an experienced host with 100+ airbnb guests during the past 2 years. She lives close by in the CBD and is over at least once per week to ensure that the house is clean, tidy, organised and running well. Jen is accustomed to an array of queries from multiple guests. So feel free to message her whenever you need assistance during your stay in Townsville.

Other things to note

Go straight to Bulletin Square in the CBD and get all the info for your stay.

It gets hot and humid in North Queensland during summer (Dec-Mar). The house is designed for natural airflow. It's not about controlling the climate with air-conditioning. Instead, open the doors and windows, turn on the ceiling fans, enjoy the indoor outdoor living spaces and be mindful of eco-sustainable, practical/cost effective living in the tropics.

Unlimited NBN available.

Active Travel Booklet on the coffee table in lounge which details the Castle Hill Walking Trails (at the end of the street) and Bike Tracks around Townsville. Snap Fitness is in Flinders Central (walking distance), also Muscle and Fitness (Hyde Park Shopping Centre). There are multiple Yoga and Pilates Studios in the CBD.

The house is fully equipped with fresh, clean, sheets, towels and linen.

Head to Woolworths (Sturt St), Castletown Shopping Centre, Flinders Central Convenience Store, Coles (Northward) for groceries.

Ask Jen. She's had all these queries from previous guests. For example, extended stay guest Ron, had a lot of fun texting Jen with queries about best bar to watch the Cowboys, best pizza delivery, best bacon and eggs at Sunday Markets, best Happy Hour Drinks on Friday arvo, etc, etc.

More than a couple of drinks is not OK in my house. Don't expect to drink excessively every night. It makes my other guests feel annoyed and unsafe. If you have a drinking problem, expect to be asked to leave.
Drugs and or any other illegal activities will result in immediate eviction.

Outside the house. Please do not leave cigarette butts in the garden.

Please keep electronic devices and valuable items in a locked/safe place. Last to leave turns off all the fans and locks up. First home, opens doors and windows, turns fans on.

Be mindful of and respectful towards other guests sharing the house, at all times. This includes noise, drinking, dirty dishes and kitchen mess, privacy, visitors, space, personal boundaries, dirty towels and clutter in the bathroom, washing left in the washing machine.

To avoid bad smells, rats, mice, cockroaches, other pests, maggots and flies, do not eat, store food or leave dirty dishes around the house or in your room. Store foods in kitchen cupboards, shelf and fridge in SEALED, airtight containers. Place ALL food scraps in the plastic bag in the freezer, then transfer to outside garbage bin.

Television, movies, music on your devices with your earphones. Other guests may be studying, sleeping, reading and or just enjoying the peaceful, tranquil atmosphere in the house. Don't come home from a night out drinking, make a racket in the kitchen and wake up the household. You may get yourself evicted.

There is a clear plastic basket with a blue handle in your room. Please carry ALL your toiletries to and from the bathroom in these, to minimise clutter around the bath, on the window sill or bathroom shelf and sink. Towels go back to each private guest room to dry and remain hygenic after showering.

For extended stays, the house is serviced (full clean and sheets changed) weekly. At all times, private guest rooms and especially shared areas should be kept clean and tidy. Please hang washing either on a dry rack in your room or on the clothes line (ie. not around in shared livings spaces or other bedrooms in the house).

This is a timber house. Do not burn incense and or candles in the house. It's a fire risk.

Sticky tape, blu tack and or sprays (insect killer, ant rid, etc) on the interior walls, which have been freshly painted is not recommended.

If you haven't CHECKED OUT by 11am, expect to be charged for an additional night.

Jen was super kind some issues in the beginnging of my stay. The place has a great value so I can recommend it. Just if you're taller than 1.80m the bed might be a little bit small. But all in all it was a great stay!

Great place to stay when you're visiting Townsville. It's clean and quiet and has everything you need in close distance. Communication was good, Jen's response was quick and clear. Would stay here again if I'm around here.
