Cois Dara is a private guest house located in the foothills of the Los Padres Forest, and a five minute drive from the magical town of Ojai, California. It is named for its massive 150 year old oak tree that dominates the property.

The space

Welcome to Cois Dara, a very unique and special property for quite time and reflection. Cois Dara's design and inspiration is based on my dream to create a place for relaxation, reflection, and renewal. The property design is based on my time in Morocco, where I stayed in a Riad and features elements of large sky vista, a garden with antique roses and an abundant orange tree, soaking tub, beautiful stone work, and an inner courtyard with pool and seating/dining area. The library is offered as a resource for the healing work that I am nationally recognized for at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical.

Guest access

Guests have access to the designated parts of the property per their booking. The use of this property is only intended for rest, relaxation, yoga, relaxing around pool, restorative swimming.

Interaction with guests

I live on the property in the main house and am available for support to ensure your time here is restful and healing. If I feel the need to address an issue on the property, debris in the pool, heavy rains, etc. I will text you or make every effort to contact you and advise you of my action. I will have full access to the property at my discretion. At no time is the property to be used for undisclosed actions, such as, but not limited to the following: photo shoots, commercial and or otherwise for Social media. Communication is key so please be honest in your hopes and expectations, and I will also communicate to the best of my ability my expectations. Any use of photos need the approval of the owner. NO parties or use of illicit drugs. NO smoking of any kind on property. I will advise you of any action that I deem inappropriate and will expect a cooperative response.

Other things to note

I do not allow pets on the property. The pool can be heated for $100 day charge.

I have put a lot of time, energy, thought and money in designing this intentional property for healing. I have an expectation that my guests will treat this property, with reverence and respect. This property is a reflection of the healing tradition of the Chumash Indians, and the many healers that have followed. My home is filled with beautiful artwork, books, and altars, inspiring the soul's ascent through aesthetic. A detailed book of House Rules is on property for your edification and should be read and is considered part of the renter's responsibility. Of special note is the septic system. Please be gentle. Only toilet paper (ideally small amounts) may be flushed down the toilet. All other items (feminine products) must be deposited in the plastic bags provided in bathroom waste paper basket.
Please leave my home in the same condition as when you arrived. All dishes, pots and pans need to be throughly rinsed with no food left on them. When using the dishwasher, please use the provided dish soap and add a cup of vinegar. (Due to the drought the water level is very low and the mineral content in the water is high.)

Reverse Osmosis Drinking water provided.

Please take all your food and supplies with you.

The house and pool and yard are lovely. Julie is a phenomenal host so we felt very comfortable and welcome to enjoy the thoughtful details all around us. The location couldn't be better; a short drive into town or a long stroll to Bart's Books. Walking distance to hiking trails too. Perfection!

I cannot recommend this place enough. It is such a beautiful house and grounds and the pool is awesome. Ojai is a fantastic place to both relax in and explore. Julie, is such a helpful and kind host and knows all the best places to visit. We came here for a 6 days of relaxation from a hectic NYC day to day life and that objective was well and truly achieved. We had a great stay and hopefully will be back again.

This home was incredibly beautiful and peaceful. I stayed for a weekend and it was better than expected. There were several spaces to relax and the large pool and garden were a plus. The home is fully furnished and Julie provides everything you will need for cooking and even ambiance. The location of the home was perfect as shops and restaurants are just down the road. I would definitely stay here again.

Our third time at Cois Dara and we absolutely love it and intend to keep coming back. It's the most beautiful house and garden and the most relaxing location. Sunny and warm in the day and dark and starry at night. Ojai town just walk away. Five star experience all round.

I moved to Ojai in 2014 from Boston where I worked at Brigham and Women's Hospital as the Program Coordinator for Healing and Caring Modalities. After visiting Ojai in 2012 with my daughter, I was so intrigued with its history in the healing arts and just felt a calling to move …
