Waking up to the sound of a waterfall in the background makes Thilak’s is a perfect spot to bunk down in Ella. The price is for a double room with attached bathroom. There are two doubles and a triple room available.
Thilak’s offers three comfy double rooms, each with a private entrance and an attached bathroom with hot water. The rooms face the waterfalls and, with the windows open, you can hear the water fall in the distance. Amidst vegetable and rice plantations and surrounded by Coconut, avocado and banana trees, the place has a very rural feel to it. Vehicles can park some 20 metres away.
Interaction with guests
We were welcomed with tea and biscuits by Thilak, a retired army officer who lives in separate spaces on the premises, together with his wife and two kids who are - curiously - both called Nadeesha. The family built the house with a loan from the bank and run it together. Things are going pretty well so far. Upon request they happily arrange food, transport and tours in the area.

Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.
We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.
As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.
In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.
The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
