The space

This is my home and I love it and that is why I want to share it.

The three story house is open to you while you stay here. This is a place you come to if you want a real taste of Bangkok. I have lived in Bangkok for six years and counting and speak conversational Thai and thus will be able to show you an insight into the city from within. My house has all sorts of information and recommendations for places to go be they temples, markets or restaurants. I can give you a very detailed description of your food options in the city if you are vegetarian.
Equally if you are a family or someone who enjoys authentic food and an insight into real Bangkok living, this is the place for you.

The ground floor can be used for dining or reading where you are free to use the kitchen facilities. Some local artists have painted inside and outside my house and have created some beautiful artwork on the walls. Your bedroom has two beds that look out on the quiet street below. The room is cooled by fans and wide windows. The room has catered to a family of four comfortably.
The private rooftop, with skyline views is open to you at all times. Bask in the sun and take in the beautiful artwork around you.

The second floor is entirely yours. Another floor above you is a rooftop you also have access to. The ground floor living space and kitchen are also free for you to occupy at all times.

Interaction with guests

I work nearby at a University. If my schedule allows I can show you around somewhere in the city. I will help you with recommendations and tips within the city if you ask. Please ask!

Other things to note

You will find books, magazines and maps on the ground floor. Please feel free to read them.

Top floor of 3-floor house. Room is big with 3 beds: you could sleep 5 or 6 people in there. Big, well-appointed bathroom. I was there in early March, which I'm told is coming on to the hottest period of the year in April, and found the room quite warm. However, Brian supplied two floor fans, which made me comfortable enough. If there had been other people there who had to sleep without a fan they would have been too warm, I think. There was no hot water but the temperature of the "cold" water was good for showers. The bathroom is almost palatial. Brian himself is an excellent host and perhaps the best asset: provides information and support but otherwise leaves one alone. The neighborhood is also nice: lots of little places to eat, a laundromat on a nearby corner. Bustling but quiet up in the room. I had to walk a bit: maybe 15 minutes, to get to the pier or Skytrain, but there are mini-buses that can take you there if you don't want to walk.

For my purpose, the accommodation was great. I stayed in Bangkok for around 3 weeks on a working holiday and the room offered me everything I needed, including working desk and private bathroom. The only thing I didn't like that much was the mattress as I'm used to hard mattress and this one was rather soft with springs inside. Not a deal breaker though ;-) The kitchen in the house is great as you can also cook a bit if you want to or if you're planning to stay a bit longer. As I hate touristy places, I loved the location as it was in a quiet area with no hotels, tourists and skyscrapers around but still only 15 mins walk to the Sky Train. You can experience the local way of living with lots of street food in the neighbourhood. Brian was willing to help me with anything I needed although I was quite self-sufficient :-) We went out for dinner couple of times and had a great chat. Overall, I recommend staying at Brian's place! Thank you.

Brian was a wonderful host. After several exchanges of emails and phone calls, with my train being unexpectedly hours late, he still met me at the BTS station and kindly hauled my stuff to his house. He showed me around the house, and let me know useful info about the neighborhood and Bangkok. The house and location is great, as long as you are ok with a fan and no ac at night. I was raised in the se of the US with no ac, so it was no issue for me. I hope when I return to Bkk on my next trip, that I will be able to stay with Brian again

Go and get Bangkok! That is the feeling you have every morning. IN two very "Red Bull"kind of ways: - Energetic, as I have slept well, in a silentand clean place. - Very charged, as Brian has all it takes: information, tips, connections and knows this crazy place better than many, even speaking Thai!!!! So, Go and Get Bangkok! Staying in this unexpectedly well located place, and having the full support of Brian, helps. And I mean: HELPS A LOT! Enjoyed it Brian. Hope to be back and hope you continue to be a beam of data and easy ways for all of us travellers, while in Bangkok!!

If you want air-conditioned creature comforts, perhaps it is better you book into a hotel, but for us Brian's place was perfect. It was spacious and very private - we had a whole floor of his place and a bathroom to ourselves. Just as advertised, it was what I imagine a truly authentic Bangkok home to be like and really helped us to get in the feel for our trip. It is located in a quiet little residential street, so wasn't too noisy at night, but at the same time it was easy to grab a cab at the end of the road (I should add that not one of the cabs in his area tried to charge us 'tourist price', another bonus of the residential area), and there were plenty of nice little coffee shops and places to grab a bite to eat around. However the best thing about the trip was Brian himself. He was very knowedgable about Bangkok and was able to direct us to some really exciting bars that we would never have found on our own. He was also full of little tips for getting around that made everything so much easier for us. In short, although Brian's place might not be to everyone's taste, it very much was to ours, and if you are looking for an 'insider's view of Bangkok', I would recommend giving it a look.

The room was a dump with fleas and water lice (according to host). The toilet did not flush with broken toilet seat, the sink leaked and the tub was dirty. We had to leave the first night, could not even hack it. There was no air conditioning and the room was located on the top floor, making it very unbearably hot. It was a total nightmare. Do not stay there, I regret it and lost all my money for 3 nights because I could not bear it. This experience was horrible and I would not use air bnb again because 3 out of 5 times ( 60%) the place was a living hell. It was a nice idea but human are just too greedy and unlike hotel you cannot complain about it or try to change room. Try (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) to find reasonable hotel is a much wiser choice.

Response from Brian:
Its a pity I seemed to be on the receiving end of a list of grievances about airbnb but I have to refute a number of statements on the condition of my house. The house (in which I live also), certainly does not have fleas or any sort of infestation and is rigorously and regularly cleaned. All clothing for the beds, linen and towels were bought brand new the day before arrival. The downstairs toilet was broken the first day as I explained and was fixed the next day. The en-suite toilet in the room however, was and remains working perfectly. If you actually meant this review for my house then I'm sorry I didn't meet your requirements but I have had no other complaints from dozens of guests including repeat visitors.
