The space

Comfortable, private-entry, garden-level studio apartment below the living area of our home. (You will hear sounds of movement, family with children from above. House is quieter between 8pm - 8am). It is tucked in a neighborhood with easy access to the city. In the studio space there is a queen size (brand name American Leather) sofa bed, a twin size pull-out ottoman, also available is an air mattress and pack and play (crib). Small refrigerator, microwave and hot water pot; coffee, tea, oatmeal with toppings, fruit and sweet bread in the studio. Read by the gas stove, study, work, have coffee, campfires (s'mores), BBQ, borrow our bikes, enjoy the yard, slides and buoy swing for kids. Great to use as home base for those having adventures, meetings, conferences, shopping and appointments in and around the city. Also the perfect place if you're just needing to stop over before or after landing at the airport.

Guest access

You have private use of the studio. There is a separate entrance for guests to come and go. There is a 4.4 cu ft refrigerator, microwave and hot water pot in the studio for your use. Light breakfast provided in studio. Washer & dryer, BBQ, bikes, campfire with s'mores may be available upon request.

Interaction with guests

Most of the time we are close to home and will be available for assistance and travel tips if desired. If we are away we will make plans for a substitute host to be available. We are up for conversation and sharing of stories as much as you are interested, and as time allows.

The neighbourhood

Our home is tucked into a small cul-de-sac, with two other homes on the circle, in a West Anchorage neighborhood. Fred Meyer grocery store and Safeway grocery (open 24 hours) are within about 1 mile. Restaurants (pizza, burgers & ice cream, Subway, Chinese, Pho, Sushi, Thai, Kincaid Grill=fine dining) Post Office, local AK coffee shop, bowling are all nearby. There is a commercial greenhouse and gift shop across the street. It is nice to walk through in spring and summer, or in winter have photos taken there with Santa. World class nordic and skate skiing trails (10 minute drive or about 5 miles) away at Kincaid Park, as well as trails for running and biking. Campbell Creek Trail (paved trail) is 1 mile south of our house by West Dimond Blvd. This trail connects with Chester Creek Trail and goes through Anchorage.

Getting around

Parking available for up to 2 vehicles along the outside of the cul-de-sac along our property. 15 minutes drive to downtown, less than 10 minutes to the airport, and 5 minutes to Minnesota Drive (which takes you north to downtown, and out-of-town or south towards Girdwood and the Kenai Peninsula.) The city bus stops nearby along Strawberry Road. Our home is also about 1 mile from the Campbell Creek Trail which joins the large, paved trail system in Anchorage. Also Kincaid Park (5 mile drive) boasts wooded running and biking trails, and world-class, groomed classic and skate skiing trails. Girdwood is a 45 minute drive southeast; a fun mountain town which has great food, bakery, tram, biking and skiing.

Other things to note

We are a professional family with 15 years of living experience in Anchorage. We have 3 young children , a dog (who has never set foot in the studio) and we are beekeepers. Bees are kept in a "bee yard" behind the house. You will hear sounds of an active family as the studio is on the lower level of our home. We respect your privacy and wishes for a wonderful stay. We enjoy hosting and often have friends from out-of-town who make the studio their home-way-from-home.

Lovely little apartment. So many amenities and little touches made our stay more akin to a quality hotel than a B'n'B. The breakfast selection was vast and delicious with their own honey. Friendly hosting family who were warm and welcoming. Fantastic place to stay before flying out of Alaska from the nearby airport. It was so nice we didn't want to leave for dinner so ordered a takeaway to be delivered and relaxed in the great studio apartment

This has been our second time staying in this home. It is a warm and cozy place that is very private. It is very family friendly and my kids look forward to playing with the toys that are there. I love that the food and beverage options are very healthy. It is the perfect place for our family to stay. I would say it is our home away from home!!

Adam and Andrea's place was extremely comfortable--one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. We loved staying at Andrea's place and sampled not only a collection of movies (including Toy Story--who doesn't love Toy Story?!) but honey from backyard bees with our oatmeal. They truly went above and beyond as a hosst--not only gifting us some delicious pumpkin bread during our stay, but also helping us push our car out of the snow and into the driveway (where they had made space for us) when we got stuck. We were less than 15 minute drive from downtown and just about everything in Anchorage and the place was extremely affordable!

Andrea and family were great hosts. Three of us came from Colorado and United Kingdom and had a great time. Beds were comfortable and just when you thought it couldn't get any better, breakfast treats including fresh picked blueberries for us and 'home grown' honey made us want to stay longer. I highly recommend this place to any and all.

It was very comfortable... we even got hand picked blueberries to go with our oatmeal for breakfast. I would definitely recommend Big Table Stuga.

Andrea User ProfileAndrea is a superhost.

We are a young, professional family with children, a dog, bees, and someday maybe chickens?! Andrea likes to read, knit, hike, kayak; and grow new things in the garden. Her new favorite vegetable is the spaghetti squash and she likes to enjoy all of the above with a good cup of coffee. Her latest read was Midnight in Siberia, a Train Journey into the Heart of Russia, by David Greene - host of NPR's Morning Edition. Adam enjoys kayaking; sci-fi movies; legos; making mead, kombucha and pancakes on Saturday mornings. His most recent international travel destination was Mahajunga, Madagascar.
