Cosy renovated stone barn, only 100 metres from the secluded and virtually private Aberfforest Beach and woodland, with direct access to the coast path.
Crab Cottage is a perfect, peaceful and quiet retreat from where you can enjoy the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast.
It's surrounded by nature and wildlife - dolphins and seals are often seen in the bay. Aberfforest is the perfect base for walking, swimming, fishing, birdwatching and watersports - or relaxing by the log fire!
The space
The cottage has a light, bright, open plan layout, and is decorated with bright colours that reflect its seaside setting. It is very warm and cosy with a log burning stove in the sitting room, and oil-fired central heating in every room.
There is one downstairs double bedroom. The two other galleried bedrooms are each in "crog lofts" in the eaves and are accessed via separate steep wooden staircases. Care will be needed when using these staircases.
One twin bedroom is accessed by stairs rising up above the kitchen area. The other is accessed via stairs close to the bathroom door, and has a view over the living area. There are curtains to provide privacy.
Both upstairs bedrooms have limited headroom.
All the beds have soft and comfortable mattress toppers, soft and supportive pillows, and crisp Egyptian cotton bed linen, so you should be able to enjoy a really comfortable nights sleep.
The bathroom is downstairs. There is a WC, hand basin and bath with electric shower over.
The sitting room has two armchairs beside the window that overlooks the sunny front courtyard and parking area. There is also a comfortable sofa, TV and log-burning stove.
The kitchen has a stable door and is well equipped. There is a rustic wooden table with six chairs, ideal for family meals.
There is free private parking immediately outside for two cars, and a large sunny patio/courtyard with picnic bench, perfect for outdoor meals.
On the far right of the cottage there is a covered utility area housing the heating boiler, and having a clothes line and some extra outdoor chairs. This is ideal for storing beach equipment and for drying laundry, swimwear and wetsuits. A portable barbecue is provided (We just ask that you clean this after use. Thanks).
Your pet is welcome with prior approval. We supply a ‘pet welcome box’ containing a blanket and towel, a bowl and some poo bags. Please restrict your pet to the hard floored areas, and outdoors. Please do NOT allow your pet into the bedrooms or bathroom, or onto the furniture, and do not leave him/her in the cottage when you are not at home.
A travel cot and high chair are available on request.
Crab Cottage has WiFi and a landline, although - please note - there is limited mobile phone signal in Aberfforest.
Although there is no mobile phone signal in the cottage, most guests are able to use the WiFi to enable WiFi calling and Whats app.
If you require mobile signal to use your phone or to access SMS texts, there is usually 3G signal if you walk or drive back up the drive way, to the region of the farm buildings. Unfortunately limited mobile phone and internet signal can be a common problem in remote and / or coastal areas.
Guest access
The whole cottage and terrace is accessible to guests. There is private parking for two cars just outside next to the patio/courtyard.
Guests also have access to the boat park where they can store kayaks, boats, paddle boards, next to the beach, by prior arrangement. It is also possible to launch from the beach, again by prior arrangement. There is a small fee payable for this.
Aberfforest is located 4.5 miles from Fishguard, and 2.5 miles from Newport, where there are excellent local shops, cafes, and a farmers market.
The closest train station is Fishguard & Goodwick.
Other things to note
The property is accessed via a long and bumpy farm track. There are potholes and care will be needed when driving.
