Prime two bedroom apartment with lovely terrace rental in the heart of Florence (Santa Maria Novella). Beautifully furnished, hardwood flooring. January through June (or July).
Federica's apartment is a very spacious and comfortable space for a long-term rental. The price was very reasonable for Florence, where the market is really geared towards tourist visits. There is one standard bedroom and another smaller room with a bed. The kitchen is large and has everything needed for cooking. The terrace in the back is also very nice. It is a short distance to the main monuments of Florence while not being too surrounded by tourists. One draw back is that there is a disco at the end of the street so from 10:30 p.m. -3 a.m. the front bedroom is very noisy. Though it is unlikely to happen for other guests, my experience was negatively impacted by a broken lock on the door and the need to request the handyman to come back to the flat multiple times to fix his poor work.
Though Federica was in fact living in New York during our whole stay, my fiance Maya and I felt her welcome as though she were actually there to meet us at the door in Florence. Her mother, instead, was able to greet us and introduce to us this most enchanting apartment. I should say we were very well accommodated from the first day until our sad departure, though for four months Federica was always mindful of us and I believe pleased that we should be so comfortable in her place. As for the apartment, I am afraid I will not soon encounter one like it. With its hardwood floors, beautiful beamed ceiling, ancient window panes and shutters, and an impressive library that reaches to each room, the impression is not of a flat but a castle tower. Not to speak of the terrace, where we spent many sunny afternoons escaping the crowded city center. The apartment is both charming and functional, with well-working kitchen, comfortable living room, large dining table, and two beds. Location is generally ideal, being a minute's walk from the train station and another few to the the very heart of Florence. We really felt at home, in a practical sense and aesthetic. Federica is certainly of great taste, a point which for me, in fact, as an artist, was/is an immediate basis for trust and admiration. It was really a 'bella cosa' to stay here for four months, and a pleasure to have Federica for a host.
