Nestled beside the village green in peaceful Middleton by Wirksworth, Eight The Green is a cosy stone cottage for two and the perfect base for walkers and explorers. Set out on scenic hiking trails or cycling routes from the door, visit the historic towns of Matlock, Cromford, and Wirksworth, or simply unwind in this tranquil, year-round retreat with two friendly pubs just a short stroll away.

The space
Set over two floors, this self-catering cottage features a living room and kitchen downstairs, with a spacious bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Outside, a sunny front garden and private rear courtyard offer peaceful spots to relax throughout the day.

You’ll have full, private access to the cottage, garden, and a lockable outhouse, ideal for bike storage. Free parking is available on The Green or in the public car park next to the nearby Nelson Arms.

Middleton by Wirksworth is a picturesque village in the Derbyshire Dales, on the edge of the Peak District National Park. It’s surrounded by walking and cycling trails, with the High Peak Trail and Middleton Moor right on the doorstep, offering far-reaching views and big skies. The village has two traditional pubs and a relaxed, friendly feel.

A mile downhill, Wirksworth has independent shops, cafés, a tiny cinema, the hillside StarDisc, and T’Owd Man in St Mary’s Church. Nearby Cromford is full of industrial history, from Arkwright’s mill to the scenic canal. Matlock Bath, nestled in the dramatic Derwent Valley, has riverside walks, traditional fish and chips, and an open-air thermal pool.

Further afield, visit Dovedale’s stepping stones or Carsington Water for birdwatching and kayaking. The surrounding villages of Bonsall, Winster, Brassington and Hartington offer classic Peak District rambles and proper pub lunches.
