After spending two weeks of intensive travel in Africa, we needed a place to decompress on our way home to Canada. We found this and much more at Clouds B&B in Ewhurst Green. We chose Ewhurst Green since it was the birthplace of my great great grandmother and I wanted to see what this part of England looked like. It is such a lovely part of the country and the view from our bedroom window, looking out over the gorgeous garden with its resident pheasants, rabbits and goldfinches to the sheep in pastures beyond and in the distance, Bodiam Castle, oast houses and vineyards is more than I could have hoped for. Upon arrival we were greeted by our gracious hosts John and Fiona with a lovely tea. In fact, they contacted us prior to arrival to make sure we could find our way to their home, since roads in this area are a bit tricky to navigate. Our room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom had a very nice high power shower. All the little touches you don't expect but greatly enjoy such as cozy robes, slippers, fresh flowers and a chocolate on the pillow were there! Fiona is a wonderful cook and her homemade shortbread, bread and breakfasts were so good. We certainly didn't need any food until dinner! We enjoyed dinner at both local pubs; the Castle Inn and twice at White Dog Inn where one night we sat on the patio and watched Morris Dancers perform in the middle of the country lane. Distances are small in this part of the world; there are many lovely sites only a few miles from Clouds B & B. You can see Bodiam Castle from the bedroom window and it is certainly worth a visit. The picturesque town of Rye is only a short drive as is Battle, home of the famous abbey and centre of the historic 1066 area where English history was forever altered. Perhaps my favorite places of this part of England were the small villages and their the churchyards and the lovely walking trails throughout the High Weald area. John spent quite a bit of time with us looking at detailed OS maps of the area, picking out routes to travel and sites to visit. He also had many brochures for local attractions in case you were visiting without a set agenda, as we were on this trip. John and Fiona were such gracious hosts and we enjoyed spending a lot of time just talking with them. They clearly enjoy running their B&B to meet new people and I think they are the perfects hosts.

Response from John:
Fiona and I have been providing B&B for over 10 years. "Clouds" was awarded 5 star gold status within the first 2 years and by Visit England this was quickly followed by their award for excellent breakfasts.Soon we were put on TripAdvisor where we are also rated 5 star. Our guests have tended to be mature people seeking tranquillity and beauty. It was with some trepidation, therefore, that we recently joined AirBnB expecting their clientele to be from the younger, more boisterous element. John & Ann were our first guests through AirBnB and we were very pleased to find that they are such a delightful couple, interesting, friendly, considerate and altogether the perfect house guests. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody who is happy to host strangers when they arrive and friends when they depart. We would also mention that we have been most impressed by AirBnB's organisation, level of support and most of all by their excellent level of communication. We recommend downloading their APP which is most helpful.

I am a retired City of London International Banker and live in a house built by Guinness the brewers for one of their estate workers, which I have restored and modernised. The property has panoramic views over Bodiam Castle and the Rother Valley. My wife and I enjoy gardening and I am the membership secretary of our local garden society.
The 5 things I can't live without are;- air, water, food, shelter and good company. The latter being our reason for providing bed and breakfast accommodation. I am part sighted and we host the most delightful guests from all walks of life, every culture and all round the world, people that I could never meet by any other means. We do our best to make our guests feel at home and relaxed, so that they can enjoy the tranquility and delights of our part of The High Weald. My favourite travel destinations are Greece and its Islands, Spain, France , Italy, New Zealand and Australia. James Clavel's Shogun is my favourite book, The King's Speech my favourite movie, West Side Story my favourite show, Rachmaninov's concerto in e minor my favourite music and lobster mayonnaise my favourite food.
My motto is dum spiro spero.
