About this listing

I have a private room with a shared bathroom centrally-located in Barrio Lastarria, directly beside Cerro Santa Lucia and the Bellas Artes neighborhood and two central metro lines. Must be ok with my dear sweet cat.

The space

The living room and the guest room both have a garden patio view and get a lot of sunlight. If you're traveling alone, are tired of the hostel scene, and want to be in a lively neighborhood, my cozy place is perfect.

It's a small city apt and a private bedroom with a VERY comfy sofa-bed, so I'm offering to host one guest or couple at a time.

I have cable TV. My little apartment is very centrally located in Barrio Lastarria, near many museums, cafes, restaurants, theaters, parks, shops, film festivals, street performers, etc...

Although my neighborhood is lively, my apartment is surprisingly quiet for such a central location.
It's a 3-min walk to one metro line and 8-min walk to another. And quite a few of the major tourist attractions in Santiago are within walking distance. There are grocery stores near as well.
Now, my kitchen is truly tiny, but you are welcome to cook there.
There is one shared bathroom.
It's not a party apartment, but it's located near almost all the great places to go out. If music is your thing, even if I can't go out, I can point you in the right direction the best of Sntgo.
Feel free to drop me a line and ask questions.

Guest access

Guests are welcome in all common areas and to cook in the kitchen.

Interaction with guests

Depending on my schedule, I love going out for dinner and sharing good live music with my guests. (although if my work schedule is busy, I may disappear into that while you're here). I'm a US national that has lived in Chile for over 7 years and love it. I do speak Spanish.

The neighbourhood

VERY centrally located:

Getting around

The apartment is a three-minute walk to the main metro line and a 11-minute walk another. It is also a 3-minute walk to the main street in the city with all the bus lines.
There are plenty of buses, (called "micros" here). And you can find your around with small maps that I have in the small/guest room.

FROM THE AIRPORT: (If you're flight is not very late and your bags aren't too heavy to carry up/down stairs, then you have the option of taking a cheap bus to the metro.)

To take semi/public transport, you will get on the CENTRO PUERTO BUS or the TURBUS Airport Shuttle ($1,600CLP) that drops you off at METRO PAJARITOS. There you take the METRO, ($720CLP) in the direction of LOS DOMICOS, to my stop UNIVERSIDAD CATOLICA. I'm about a 3-minute walk around the corner, (just make sure you get off on the LASTARRIA exit / North side.)

FOR SHUTTLES AND TAXIS, BUY THE TRAVEL VOUCHER BEFORE LEAVING THE INTNL SECURITY AREA. After customs and before you leave the secured area, there are shuttle/taxi stands where you can buy a voucher and then walk outside directly to taxi/shuttle stand without being hassled by or having to decide which driver you trust. MUCH SAFER AND FAIRLY-PRICED.

If you want to take a SHARED SHUTTLE, take TransVip, (tired or whatever), it's door-to-door with mulitple stops for around ($8,000CLP). With multiple stops, you just have be ready to maybe have a long ride.

TAXIS are around ($19,000CLP) are the fastest, but again purchase the travel voucher inside the security area. Easier.

Here's another wesbite (a little dated, but good info):

Other things to note

Also, here is a list of Chilean national holidays on most of which all stores will be closed:

I have a cat. Not a good apt for those with cat allegeries.

The apt is located near many bars and pubs-- great places to meet with friends. The apartment building is usually quiet, with very little street noise.
I have tons of old guide books that you are welcome to use during your stay, and I have a few contacts with tour companies if want a special perspective or just don't feel like planning a day.
Also, for tours to the North and the South of Chile I can recommend: wwwpachamamabybuscom
I welcome you into my home, so please just respect it.

Shawn was a perfect host. I felt more like visiting a friend than staying at the B&B. We had great chats, she introduced me to her friends, took me along to a concert. In short my stay was very pleasant. The room was small, but I did not need any more space and the apartment was in great neighborhood.

Shawn is an amazing host! She is warm, welcoming, and willing to help you in any way. She knows the city well and had lots of great advice on things to do. Her place is very cozy and in the location couldn't be any better in Barrio Lastarria. Shawn is a delight to be around and would definitely stay with her again on my next visit to Santiago!

I couldn't have chosen a better accommodation. Staying at Shawn's place was a very pleasant experience. She was the perfect host and the apartment has the best location for those wanting to enjoy the bohemian atmosphere in the trendiest neighbourhood of Santiago. The apartment is small but very convenient and it has all you need especially for me that I had planned to stay all day outside. Thank you for making my journey so wonderful and warm!

I'm from the States, grew up in Florida and have been living in Chile for over nine years now. I am corporate coach and professor here in the city, but also am involved in writing, music and curating art shows. I try to go out at least twice a week to hear live music and love the theater and dance here in Santiago.
I'm new at hosting, but feel like I have to share my fabulous neighborhood, as it's at the mecca of art, theater, cafes and short walk or metro ride to almost any part of the city.
