Tucked away on a quiet grassy track, amongst an eclectic mix of homes, is this stylish seaside cottage. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it makes the perfect base to explore this wild stretch of coastline.

The space

This former fisherman's cottage is located in the heart of Rye Harbour village (2 miles from Rye) and is arranged over three floors, comfortably accommodating up to 6 guests (plus 2 travel cots) and is as suited to a relaxing break for family and friends as it is for a romantic getaway for two. The cottage has been decorated in muted off whites and blues, in keeping with its coastal setting, together with quirky vintage finds. Textured cushions and throws will ensure you feel comfortable and snug. On cooler nights, simply throw a few logs in the woodburner for that cosy cottage feel.  White-washed floors and plantation shutters add to the 'beach house' feel, together with far reaching views of the nature reserve, river and sea. Enjoy quality bedlinen. fluffy white towels, complimentary toiletries and freshly baked treats on arrival.  Dogs will receive their very own treats too! On the ground floor is a cosy living area with a woodburning stove, 32" flat screen TV/built-in DVD player with Freeview, wifi access and an ipod dock. Adjoining this is a spacious dining area comfortably seating up to 6 adults, with french doors that lead out to the garden. Open to the dining area is a well-equipped kitchen stocked with all the kitchen essentials you can think of and an attractive quartz worktop. The kitchen is a very efficient space with all the appliances you would expect, including a good-sized fridge/freezer, electric oven, gas hob, full-size dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle and a Nespresso machine.

On the first floor is the master bedroom with a king-sized bed, double wardrobe and a chest of drawers. There is a family-sized bathroom with marble-topped twin sinks, a spacious bath with an overhead shower, perfect for blasting off sand after a long day on the beach. There is also a laundry cupboard housing a washing machine and clothes airer. An ironing board and iron is also available.

On the top floor are two twin bedrooms, one with a blackout blind, making it ideal for young children. Both bedrooms have a chest of drawers and hanging pegs/space. The staircase is fitted with a retractable stairgate at the top of the stairs.

To the rear of the cottage is a long private garden that is child/dog-friendly, with an outside tap and hosepipe, handy for washing off sandy feet/paws and a washing line for the drying of clothes/beach towels. There is outdoor furniture seating up to 6 adults and a Weber charcoal BBQ.

Attached to Seakale is a lockable barn providing plenty of storage for bikes or sporting equipment, such as a windsurfer. There is a whole host of beach paraphernalia that you are welcome to borrow, such as a windbreak, buckets, spades & sand toys, fishing nets, crabbing bucket, BBQ bucket, beach games, cool bag, picnic ware & rug, picnic basket, Boules set and beach bags.

FOR THE 'LITTLE PEOPLE' We have tried to think of everything to make a stay with little ones as easy and child-friendly as possible. You will find 2 travel cots, 2 stairgates (one fixed at top of 2nd staircase), bed rail, plug-in night lights (one on the landing and one in each twin bedroom), highchair, booster seat, plastic cups, plates & cutlery, fireguard, toddler step, toilet training seat, potty, and anti-slip bath mats, perfect for weekend visits when you want to travel light. PLEASE NOTE: The staircases at Seakale are wooden and we are unable to fit a stair gate at the top of the first staircase due to the design of the staircase. There is a fixed stairgate at the top of the 2nd staircase and a pressure-fitting gate that can be fixed at ground floor level.

ELDERLY GUESTS: There are two sets of wooden staircases at Seakale which might not suit elderly guests. There is also one step leading from the dining room up into the kitchen. The shower has been installed over the large, deep bath, which might be difficult for those with mobility issues to access.

DOGS: Dogs are very welcome at Seakale for a small fee of £20 to cover extra cleaning at the end of your stay. Dog bowls and emergency poop bags are provided. We also have a couple of crates (one metal, one canvas), both of which would suit a medium/small dog. Please bring your own bedding.

PARKING: There is space for parking in front of the attached barn.

FLEXIBLE BOOKING IS AVAILABLE DURING ALL SCHOOL HOLIDAY PERIODS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SCHOOL SUMMER HOLIDAY PERIOD.

We had a brilliant stay this weekend in Rye, the weather was gorgeous which really helped but I think even if the weather hadn't been that nice, the cottage was so lovely we would've just holed ourselves up in the cottage all weekend!! Jane is a brilliant host and provides detailed information about the cottage and Rye itself before and during the stay which was really useful for us. She left a cake for us in the kitchen with some milk in the fridge ready for tea when we arrived on Friday night which was such a nice touch - thank you. Highly recommend staying at Jane's lovely cottage and exploring Rye and the areas around it!

Jane was an excellent communicator with clear access instructions. The log fire was wonderful. The welcome cake a bonus. Parking quite tricky especially when lane blocked in one direction.

Response from Jane:
Thank you for taking the time to complete a review and for your kind comments. I'm sorry to read that the parking was problematic. The cottage is tucked away on its own private track at the end of an unmade road. There is private parking area next to the cottage but this is ideally just for 1 car, as the track leading to it is narrow, so turning around usually requires a 6-point turn, rather than a 3! Access is sometimes only possible from one end of the track but this doesn't usually cause a problem. The upside of this arrangement is that there is no traffic whizzing past.

Our stay at SeaKale was great. On arrival there was a lovely cake waiting for us. Communication with Jane was excellent and she has thought of everything. Seakale is a lovely place to stay, it was clean and the beds and pillows are very comfortable. Jane has made sure that there is plenty of information both about the property and the surrounding area. Jane provides towels, all bed linen, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner so that you don't have to worry about bringing them with you. There is also milk, tea and coffee. A great place to stay!

Seakale is delightful. Exceptionally clean, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. We've rarely slept better! We particularly liked * the cottage is exceptionally clean and comfortable (non-dog owners need have no fear of discovering dog hairs or smells) * it is simply and beautifully furnished and decorated to a very high standard. We liked the light, airy and simple aesthetic. * the location is perfect for exploring the Kent and East Sussex coast and countryside (with or without a car - one of us got the train to Rye) * the quiet and quirky atmosphere of Rye Harbour in general and the street where the cottage is located in particular * convenient local shop and pub(s) - N.B lovely fresh rolls from the store and good food and drinks at the William the Conqueror pub both nights (the other pub was closed in the evening). Be sure to book early even off peak as we were. *Jane was a considerate and generous host eg. kitchen supplies including salt, pepper mill and cooking oil, delicious welcome cake, speedy and efficient communications; offered a late departure on the Sunday without us even asking. Thank you Jane!

I can't recommend Jane's cottage highly enough; so much attention to detail, such a high standard of decor and finish, the location is idyllic, the value for money is top-notch; we loved it all. Jane is pretty much my favourite airbnb host ever, just so much care and attention has resulted in a beautiful, relaxing high-end space, in a glorious location.

Response from Jane:
Thank you so much Debbie! I really appreciated your responsiveness, understanding and, most importantly, your sense of humour whilst there was a temporary disruption to the gas supply - that really helped put me at ease whilst I tried to resolve the issue. It's so important to me that guests are comfortable during their stay, so I was extremely relieved that we were able to fix the issue without too much interruption to your stay. Thank you for your kind words about the cottage. Best wishes! Jane

What a wonderful cottage! We came for a weekend trip with my parents as a Christmas present. The location is great for the nature reserve and for a bit of seclusion and so close to Rye town! The cottage is really lovely and so clean, organised and with everything you need provided. Jane's communication was brilliant and all information was provided well in advance. I cannot recommend enough. Brilliant ️️️️️
