Interaction with guests
Text interactions have worked best for most of our guests, particularly out of normal business hours. No question is too silly nor trivial for our attention. Some guests have stayed with almost no contact to enjoy seclusion and privacy. Others have embraced opportunities with Tony and become an integral part of our family and planned activities.
Other things to note
There are two Chinese crested hairless dogs at Sunbird Chase who have welcomed guests with barking and measured suspicion. Without exception, guests are welcomed to their home.
We caution all guests that the dogs be given an opportunity to sniff and introduce themselves at the inner courtyard gate before moving into the guest wing. The largest of our rescued dogs Hera, was mistreated by a previous owner[s]. She often compensates her fear of strangers, particularly men, with an aggressive "welcome". But she is the dog that will seek your approval and affection if you don't mind a dog with naked skin.
If you are fearful of dogs or mistrusting in any way, please ask that we introduce you to Hera and Errol [Flynn]. Frequently our guests must let themselves into the guest wing and meet our "family" because Irene and Tony have been unavailable for scheduled arrivals.
Your arrival is important to us. We can make arrangements based on text, email and telephone knowing that schedules can change without notice.
Our 2 dogs [Hera and Errol] respond well to most guests. Don't worry if you are not greeted by them as you come and go. Your stay can be as private or as interactive with us as you like.
We tend to spend most of our time in the upper level in the main house and text to Tony's mobile is the best way to communicate questions and requests such as access to guest services. PLEASE NOTE: The day bed on the lower deck is for private use only. You are most welcome to relocate the pool recliners and chairs to the lower deck and pontoon. Your consideration re suntan lotions contacting leather and fabric surfaces during your stay is most appreciated.
A House Rules book is available on the coffee table in the Guest Wing. It includes instructions on the use of the tv's, wifi, kitchen equipment etc. It is also equipped with local travel and tourist information for your perusal.
Irene and Tony fancy themselves as TOUGH MUDDERS following the inaugural Sunshine Coast event in August, 2013. They climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in September, 2012 and as a land & ocean adventurer, much of Tony's time is spent with sharks, walking through wilderness and planning the next bucket list event. Irene is not so much into great white, tiger and bull sharks as she is into mammals great & small, fitness, healthy food and providing content for their Social Media sites Sunshine Coast Sunbird Holiday Stay, iFotoTravel and DiveCareDare. They live at one of the best places on earth and the guest wing has been set up for you to experience their place in paradise. Tell them what you think. Sunbird Holiday Stay [Diver Lodge] is just over an hour from the Brisbane International Airport and 15 minutes from the Sunshine Coast Airport at Mudjimba. Walking distance from Kawana Shopping World and surf beaches, 40 minutes from Noosa and its iconic Hastings Street. There is something for everyone here at the place Irene and Tony have called home since 2003. Your stay can be as quiet, secluded and private as you wish or Tony can step up and fill it with as much adrenalin filled action as you can handle. Irene and Tony can't live without breakfasts at One on La Balsa, fitness in the great outdoors, bucket list destinations, our "fugly" Chinese hairless crested dogs, naked Sphynx cat and encounters with wildlife at home and away. Quiet time is spent watching Netflix movies and shows like Dexter, Revenge, Scandal, Breaking Bad, Suits, Elementary, Survivor, Extant and Steve Austin's Redneck Island. When Irene is not around, Tony plays music from the fifties to late eighties and watches documentaries recorded by TiVo. They have a sense of humour and watch brain dead horror movies too. As a teacher of marine studies for 35 years, Tony's mantra is: "In the end, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught." (Baba Dioum). More recently: "Life is short....Just do it". In 2014, Irene and Tony discovered the rewards as volunteers for African Wildlife Rehabilitation Centres like Moholoholo near Kruger National Park and Kevin "Lion Whisperer" Richardson (Welgedacht within Dinokeng Big Five Game Reserve) closer to Johannesburg. If they are on an adventure, be assured that your best interests are paramount. For this reason, Irene and Tony appreciate the trend for guests choosing to stay for one month and longer. Some guests have become friends who have signed on for shared adventures both here on the Sunshine Coast and elsewhere. Airbnb hosting has become a way of life to appreciate the unexpected and diverse interests of guests. Irene and Tony are not perfect but they strive to deliver the best approximation to your needs.
